Android :: Storing Short Strings And Numeric Values In Resources
Jan 11, 2010
I want to have some static numeric and text values as an application resource. For example my data is like this:
Levels 5 First_Level 500 60 1 Second_Level 500 80 1 Third_Level 200 60 1 Fourth_Level 130 30 2 Final_Level 100 30 3... and another 300 lines...
The format and order of the data is predefined and guaranteed to be valid.
I could read it with java.util.Scanner, but it's extremely slow in Android, reading a 10 KB file takes minutes. It's slow because of the regular-expression-based pattern matching inside (when I traceview'ed it).

So I have an app where I put arbitrary strings in a database and later extract them like this:
CODE:......................
This works fine in all cases except for when the string looks like a float number, for example "221.123123123". After saving it to the database I can extract the database to my computer and look inside it with a DB-viewer, and the saved number is correct. However, when using cursor.getString() the string "221.123" is returned. I cant for the life of me understand how I can prevent this. I guess I could do a cursor.getDouble() on every single string to see if this gives a better result, but that feels sooo ugly and inefficient.
I just made a small test program. This program prints "result: 123.123", when I would like it to print "result: 123.123123123"
CODE:.................

I've got an XML file storing an array of shorts in my resources. I need to assign this array, but Android API only provides a way to get array of ints (getResources.getIntArray()). I've ended up getting an array of ints and converting it to array of shorts later, but that's hardly ideal.
Is there a way to get an array of shorts from Android resources? If not, is there a more efficient/cleaner way of converting int array into short array? My code ...

This was working fine when I first started the project. I am referring to editing/adding to the strings.xml file. It used to display a design and XML tab that allowed me to update it. now its just showing up as a table. Any ideas? I don't understand how I could have messed this up. I did check in another project of mine and I am getting the same results so I don't think it has anything to do with the XML.
Any ideas? Thanks!

i have a problem with double values i need to store in an android homed sqlite database. since these double values represent gps values (lat & lng), i really NEED an absolute precision down to the 9th number after the comma.when reading lng from this table into some (java) double variable, i get a value like "0.999956837" - this renders the values pretty useless to me.is there a way to enforce the precision i need other than storing the values as "text" fields (what would make expensive casts neccessary) or storing them as integers (meaning i need to multiply/divide at each write/read-op)?

Dear all, I'm making a simple file decoder for Android 2.2 that needs to find the filename of the encoded file from a header. This filename should then be used as the filename for the decoded file (as you would expect). The filename is identified by the substring name=, so the actual name starts 5 places after that. The line is read by a BufferedReader and temporarily stored in currLine. For some reason I can't understand nor find on the web, Strings do not always seem to be Strings.Gives no output file, nor an IO exception. The string is parsed properly though: from the System.out debugging lines.

I've got a map of about 500 entries. Strings are all very short (less than 5 chars). Its read-only data I want to read once at app-startup. What's the best way to store this so that loading this data is fast?I've tried storing the data in a CSV in res/raw but this takes about 700ms to parse on my N1, so I'm hoping there's a faster way.

by which the resource "bar" becomes an alias for the resource named "foo".What I would for my app is a possibility to combine an existing resource prefix with different suffixes, where the resource "bar" would yield the string "foobar". Its clear that '+' doesn't work here but is there some other option to achieve such a string concatenation, so that one could define a bunch of string resources that have a common prefix?I realize of course that I could do such resource string concatenation at runtime but defining them statically in the resources would seem so much more elegant and simpler.

In my Android project, I want to loop through the entire collection of Drawable resources. Normally, you can only retrieve a specific resource via its ID using something like:
InputStream is = Resources.getSystem().openRawResource(resourceId)
However, I want to get all Drawable resources where I won't know their ID's beforehand. Is there a collection I can loop through or perhaps a way to get the list of resource ID's given the resources in my project?
Or, is there a way for me in Java to extract all property values from the R.drawable static class?

How can I set numeric-only soft keyboard option for a text field? When I set the input-type to "number" it brings a soft keyboard which is actually a alpha-numeric one but already switched to numeric mode. What I want is a pure numeric soft keyboard with big numbers (no alphabets at all). I've already seen this in other applications and but don't know how to do it.

Does anyone know of a good numeric password app on the Motorola Droid? I've searched the threads and so far only found Wavesecure (which although cool doesn't do the phone lock automatically and therefore isn't what I'm looking for) and Lock 2.0 (which got some nasty reviews). I REALLY hate the pattern lock and would like to simply type in a numeric password each time the phone goes dim to protect my personal information but I'm coming up empty handed.

In my XML values strings code, I have a string with some text that I want to have only a few of the words in color. I also want to have a new line for some of the text.
I can do things like: < b> my bold text < /b> and that works (leading space added for this post).
I try to tag the text with color but no color shows up and there are no errors.
CODE:.............
I also try adding a new line - I've tried things like:
< LF> some text, space at beginning only for this post < /LF>
< CR> this didn't work either < /CR>
< p> some text, space at beginning only for this post < p>
But, no new paragraph / new line, carriage rtn happens.
