Android :: Phone "hover" Event In Custom Layout

Dec 26, 2009

I have a custom layout that I have written that basically just displays a bunch of Image Views. I am handing on Touch events for all the Image Views in my layout. However, if a user touches one image View and then drags over another Image View, I would like to be able to handle that as well. How would I go about capturing this behavior?

Android :: Phone "hover" event in custom layout

Android :: OnClick() Event On An Item Of ListView Custom Row Layout

Nov 15, 2010

I have a ListView whose rows are formatted by me. Each row has a mix of ImageView and TextView. I have also implemented my own adapter and am able to draw each row through it.

Now, I would want something like this-

User clicks on an ImageView (not anywhere else on the row, but only this ImageView should respond to clicks)
I get to know the position of the row whose ImageView was clicked.

I have tried many things for this and have wanted my code to be as efficient as possible (in terms of overkill).
Currently i can capture the click event on that particular ImageView only, but I can't know which row was clicked.

I have provided an attribute in the Row XML like this-

CODE:..................

And in my code, I have a method like this:

CODE:..............

I can get the parent row (perhaps) but am not sure how to go further from here.

Android :: Push Up Layout In Event That Soft Keyboard Is Drawn

Jul 15, 2010

I am designing an Android app and I'm having a couple of layout issues. I have a screen with 3 EditTexts on it in a row, and I would like for the 'next' key on the soft keyboard to cycle between the EditText fields. As for now, the 'next' key has no effect. Also, when the soft keyboard is displayed, it covers up the third of the EditTexts. Is there any way to push up the layout in the event that the soft keyboard is drawn?

Android :: Calendar Event Custom Repeat

Aug 2, 2010

Wonder if anyone come across a droid calendar with similar event repeat function as those calendars in WinMo phones.

The particular function I am looking for is to customize the event repeat interval in terms of number of weeks or days (eg repeat every 3 weeks or 5 days etc).

Currently I don't see such function in the google calendar so I figure most droid calendars out there also do not have such function.

Android : Custom Event Listener On Droid App?

Jun 6, 2010

I need to set up a simple event listener to refresh a listview from once in a while. The problem is I don't know how could I generate an event.

I know that for events like key or button pressing I just need to implement the handler. But in this specific case I actually need to generate the event, which will be fired everytime another running thread of my app wakes up and refreshes it's list of news from a rss feed.

I've done everything, but got stucked in here. Can I get any suggestion or link with some more info on how to implement this?

Media :: Custom Notifications For Different Event Types

I want different notifications for different events, e.g. for SMS I want one sound and vibrate function, for YMail and GMail I want a different sound and no vibrate. I tried Rings Extended, but that just takes the existing settings a step further by allowing music or sounds to be added. It doesn't distinguish between different events.

General :: Capture Stylus Hover Events Before Get To Apps

May 13, 2014

I'm trying to work with a custom build of Android based on KitKat to incorporate a stylus, copying some of the functionality (though not code) from Samsung which sells Android-with-stylus builds for e.g. the Note 3. I'm not including details of the specific device because right now I am working on a custom dev device and my aim is to write code which is generic enough to be usable from any Android (based on KitKat). The build (written by others) already incorporates drivers and sends stylus events correctly as motion events etc. Programming at the app level I can receive onHover, ontouch, onClick etc

The specific functionality I am trying to achieve is to pick up a stylus-button-click while hovering. It's perfectly possible to do this in any app, using an onGenericMotion Listener.

However, I want to make my "stylus-action" have system-wide effect - so that anywhere (in any other app, or in the launcher or whatever) I will pick up the event (prior to any other app) and bring up my custom menu. (just like AirCommand in Samsung Note 3) I guess in my custom Android this would then make that particular action somewhat protected or unusable for other users, but I'm ok with that.

In older Android (prior to ICS) you could try something by putting up a System Overlay (i.e in regular app code, without hacking the ROM at all), but this is no longer possible.

This is not an attempt to tapjack or whatever, I understand why this functionality has been removed from the domain of the regular programmer, and I don't want to regress my ROM back to pre-ICS behaviour by allowing the System Overlay hack. Now I am programming the system (if my change is good enough I'd like to submit it back to AOSP) so I would like to know the best method to address this. Since Samsung have already done this, it must be legal (using legal in the terms of "Android will allow it"), and I want to do it right.

Is it possible to write something similar to the System Overlay when you are running from a system service? Or is there a good choke-point to capture events before they are broadcast to the current running apps?

I was looking at AndroidXRef /frameworks/base/core/java/android/view/View.java specifically in the function dispatchHoverEvent() which looks like a promising place. My naive idea is that I would place code here checking the MotionEvent to see if the button is pressed and if it is, don't call any listeners and instead call my little menu app (or broadcast a custom message, or something anyway). However, I've never written code on the ROM level before (LOTS of experience writing app code) so I don't know if this is a really bad point or a good point to add in code. Should I be putting things at a higher level or a lower one? Will this capture all events or not? Is it all just trial and error?

Android :: XML Layout Of Custom Component

Jul 9, 2010

I have created a simple class named Panel which extends the SurfaceView class and does some drawing in the onDraw method. When I use it from the code it works fine. For example this works as expected:
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(new Panel(this)); ....

However when I try adding this component from an xml layout the program crashes:
XML file (main.xml):
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <org.anddev.Panel android:id="@+id/panel" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"/>

Code:
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.main);....

Error msg: Sorry!
The application Test (process org.anddev) has stopped unexpectedly. Pleas try again.
I can not figure out why the same class works when created in one way and doesn't work when created in another.

Android :: Custom View With Layout?

Mar 9, 2010

I am trying to do is to embed a custom view in the default layout main.xml:

CODE:......

As you can see the class is called com.lam.customview.CustomDisplayView, with the id of custom_display_view1. now in the com.lam.customview.CustomDisplayView class, i want to use another layout called custom_display_view.xml because i don't want to programmatically create controls/widgets.

Custom_display_view.xml is just a button and an image, the content of which i want to change based on certain conditions:

CODE:..............

I tried to do:

1)
CODE:........

But got this error, "03-08 20:33:15.711: ERROR/onCreate(10879): Binary XML file line #8: Error inflating class java.lang.reflect.Constructor ".

2)
CODE:..........

But got this error, "03-08 20:28:47.401: ERROR/CustomDisplayView(10806): Resource ID #0x7f050002 type #0x12 is not valid "

Also, if i do it this way, as someone has suggested, it's not clear to me how the custom_display_view.xml is associated with the custom view class.

Android :: Listview Custom Row Layout - Tried Many Combinations

Jun 13, 2010

I am having trouble getting my layout to give me result I need, I already tried many options and it seems that I'm doing something wrong or completely missing something.

I have a listview with a custom row layout I can't seem to working although it shouldn't be complex. I need of the list row to insist of:

Icon -- title text (bigger and bold) with a short multi line text under the title -- ImageButton

My problem in most of my tests is the icon to the right usually doesn't appear, I guess my center group grows and takes all the space of the button. My last failed attempt was with a Relative Layout, didn't have too much luck with a Linear Layout either.

Here is the row XML:

Android :: Custom Typface In Listview Row Layout

Aug 6, 2010

I have used the following example

ListActivity | Android Developers

However, having defined a seperate layout for the rows I cannot change the typeface for textview text1 to a custom one from assets

Here is the row layout

CODE:................

Here is the code from the andriod tutorial

CODE:............

We'll define a custom screen layout here (the one shown above), but typically, you could just use the standard ListActivity layout. setContentView(R.layout.custom_list_activity_view) ;

Query for all people contacts using the Contacts.People convenience class. Put a managed wrapper around the retrieved cursor so we don't have to worry about requerying or closing it as the activity changes state.

CODE:................

Now create a new list adapter bound to the cursor. SimpleListAdapter is designed for binding to a Cursor.
CODE:................

Specify the row template to use (here, two columns bound to the two retrieved cursor rows). mCursor, // Pass in the cursor to bind tonew String[]{People.NAME, People.COMPANY}, // Array of cursor columns to bind to. new int[] {android.R.id.text1, android.R.id.text2}); // Parallel array of which template objects to bind to those columns.
