Nov 12, 2009I'm trying to figure out how to parse some XML (for an Android app), and it seems pretty ridiculous how difficult it is to do in Java. It seems like it requires creating an XML handler which has various callbacks (start Element, end Element, and so on), and you have to then take care of changing all this data into objects. Something like this tutorial.All I really need is to change an XML document into a multidimensional array, and even better would be to have some sort of Hpricot processor. Is there any way to do this, or do I really have to write all the extra code in the example above?

Nov 9, 2010I'm trying to parse many string dates to Date(s), some with time part, others without, with the "dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm" format.

(here, format is always "dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm").
But this causes an exception, even with setLenient forced at true. Do you know how I may convert to Date a lot of strings formatted like "dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm:ss", but with someones without time, some others without secondes, and still other one with everything ?

Feb 2, 2010I am currently working on a group project to build an Android game. I have been delegated the task of building a PC based level editor (which is all done). All I have to do now is decide on the file format for the map that is outputted. At the moment it is just a standard text file with different numbers to represent different tiles; E.G 0=path 1=wall 2=enemy.

The actual Android game then takes this file and stores the values into a 2D Array. However those who are making the actual game are having difficulty opening a text file, and others have told me it has to be done using an XML file. I have now been asked to find a away to take in this input. how I would read the text file and put the values into a int array[][] ? Or if it is easier, use an XML file and tell me how to format that file and read the values into a int array[][]

Jun 15, 2010I would like to get the mime type of my local media file (3gpp , mp4, ...etc) if it is of video then i want to allocate a SurfaceView for it additionally otherwise i just use MediaPlayer to play it i have found opencore has provided some interface for that and used by mediascanner.cpp but it seems in android media framework it isnt so can i achieve this by using android media framework?
