Android :: OpenGL Coding - Emulator Doesn't Work

After spending the better half of this day getting my HTC Magic to work in developer mode, I've now found that some of my frist openGL coding attempts that appeared to work fine in the emulator doesn't work as expected on the device. I've narrowed this down to glColorf(r, g, b, a) not working as expected on the device itself. The provided OpenGL samples do work though. So for example, after modifying Cube.java from the samples to the below code I find that I get the expected grey square on the emulator but a blank white screen (background fill colour) on the device.

I'm still an Android & Java noob, but everything I've seen is telling me this should totally work, but it doesn't! not in the emulator, not on the phone.. I'm trying to use the vibrator using vibrate(500); ..I get an " application stopped unexpectedly " error

I have problems simulating call or sms since telnet or ddms perspective on eclipse. I'm connected to the device and some commands works (window scale,...)If i try to simulate a gsm call then everything seems ok but i haven't anything on my emulator (nor incoming call nor notification) then if i launch an "gsm list" command my inbound call is listed and i can cancel it the same thing occurs with sms send everything seems ok (return OK) but there is no notification on the emulator nor sms in inbox :-(
I'm using the sdk r06 on a windows xp machine. I try with fresh avd on different platform :-(
Important : it has worked so i know it can work, but i would like to know why it doesn't work now ! Using ddms i don't see any trace on the log view.

Since I only have access to the emulators, I don't know if the problem can be reproduced on real phones. I'm using setCurrentTab on a TabHost to dynamically select a tab. When I am in portrait mode, it works, but as soon as I change to landscape (ctrl + f12), it doesn't work anymore. It doesn't send an exception, it just doesn't do anything. If I switch back to portrait (ctrl + f12), it doesn't work either. That means it just works when I first am in portrait mode. As soon as I change, it stops working. In order to make it work again, I need to close the application and reopen it.
The TabHost is from the current activity, which is a TabActivity.
Can you check if this happens to you too (emulator)?

I am programming an android application and my "testing" device is a Motorola Milestone (Droid). I have done a grid that scroll like the iPhone home menu ( with "points").
I got two problems:
The first one : the drag only works on the Android Device Emulator and don't on the Droid! (Maybe the multi-touch screen is a problem?) The drag is too responsible, and flip views sometimes one by one (this is ok) and sometimes 2 by 2 or 3 by 3! That is clearly problematic!

I have so far found two bugs in Galaxo 1.6.3:
a) Speaker doesn't work in call (very weak). works well in ringtones etc.
b) Scrolling contacts by letter doesn't work.
Other than that this is a leap forward, especially with the overclock options!
Both bugs, as well as others, fixed in 1.6.3.1 update!

I have Googled my butt off trying to find where if there is a surefire way to make rtsp work. I have a radio station that I listen to that streams via rtsp. Of course by default Android doesn't want to play it. If I pop the URL into yourmuze.fm and create a station there it lets me stream it to my phone. After checking how it works I come to find that it streams to the phone via rtsp! So obviously there is something amiss. What makes one stream work and one not? This is the stream I am attempting : rtsp://wms2.christiannetcast.com/yes-fm
It is an audio stream so I would be thrilled with most peoples problem of "it only does audio and not video." When yourmuze.fm streams, DDMS states it brings up MovieView to play the audio if that helps at all.

We are getting a SIGSEGV 11 when launching our OpenGL activity. Here is the logcat. It appears to happen on Droid Hardware, but not the 2.0 Emulator. We are trying to do some testing to see if we can slowly build up some code to cause a crash.

I am trying to set up an Android emulator to do some playing around with OpenGL ES on it, but I am stymied by the fact that, every time I run my program on it, it unceremoniously grenades itself. The problem (at least the first nasty red error line in the log) is a missing package called libhgl.so. This is the OpenGL driver file required for running OpenGL ES on Android devices, but for some reason, my emulator doesn't have it. Does anyone know where I can get drivers for the emulator, or how to get an emulator that already has them?

I'm writing a game engine.
I have a little example (see http://qrcode.kaywa.com/img.php?s=8&d=http://rokonandroid.com/rd.apk), that seems to work fine on every device except Droid / Milestone.
It displays a blue screen (due to glClearColor being set to blue), and nothing more.
I have tried with/without textures, and with/without VBOs. Yet still all blue screens on Droid.
What is unique about Droid and how it handles OpenGL, and why is it doing this?

In my application, I have a NDK native code that uses OpenGL 1.0 to apply a texture to a rectangle in order to draw an image on the screen. It is working fine on the emulator, but when I test it on the HTC HERO android device, it only draws a white rectangle without texture. Anybody else had the same problem? Did anybody find a solution?

I created a sqlite database to store playlists for a media player I am developing because of extended feature (rather than using the Content Provider). It works perfectly on the 1.6 emulator but FCs on anything higher than 2.0... what has changed that I need to know about as far as opening databases in SDK 2.0+? Here is the logcat.

Running into REALLY interesting problems with OpenGL ES. Basically when I start my program in 1.5 or 1.6 emulator, it works just fine but on HTC Hero 1.5 it does not. The problem is that the vertices are not being rendered but the gl.glClear() command is working just fine. I followed in with the debugger and it does go into the rendering function and such but still not rendering the vertices...

Also I got my projection set in 2D ortho projection to match screen coordinates so that's why scale to 50,50 to actually make a bit bigger. I've tried using glDrawElements and glDrawArrays and nothing on the actual phone but works perfectly fine on the actual emulator. Any ideas where I might be going wrong? Why is the actual phone not rendering the vertices like the emulator is?

I'm currently learning OpenGL ES programming on Android (2.1). I started with the obligatory rotating cube. It's rotating fine but I can't get the depth buffer to work. The polygons are always displayed in the order the GL commands render them. I do this during initialization of GL:

When I enable backface culling then everything looks correct. But backface culling is only a speed-optimization so it should also work with only the depth buffer or not? So what is missing here?

I'm trying to determine whether or not my phone is defective, or if this is a current problem with the Cliq.
Of the apps I've downloaded, only a few of them have worked. Of those few that work, some don't work right. Has anyone had problems with these apps crashing on them, or just not working correctly?
- Nice Battery (see description at bottom of: My Ultimate CLIQ settings (so far))
- WeatherBug (kept showing the wrong location, crashed when trying to change location)
- Snake - doesn't work just says its "paused"
- RingDroid - crashes when I select the "Facebook Pop" button
- Layar - screen is rotated 90 degrees at all times
There have been others, but usually I just uninstall them right after discovering it doesn't work right.

I've had an HTC Desire on Orange in the UK for about 6 weeks and it is having persistent problem. Firstly despite having a strong 4-bar out of 4 signal, online services and the internet do not work at all when a 3G signal is being received (e.g. news, weather, all widgets, internet, email etc).Calls and texts do work however with a 3G signal.But when a 3g+ signal (HSDPA) is being received, all internet services as above work fine.However, when a 3+ signal is being received, the phone does not make or receive calls or text messages, and often fails to send texts. Calls I make immediately shut down (bleep + �call ended�), and incoming calls from other people go straight to answerphone. Also often when turning the data connection on/off, it freezes and has to be rebooted, and turning airplane setting on and off does not fix the problem.
I have also tried the different network settings (GSM, WCDMA, auto, etc). �GSM� sends and receives calls and texts but doesn�t work (or is incredibly slow) with internet, and �auto� and �WCDMA only� show the problems as above.I don't think this is a network/coverage issues as, as I have seen many people reporting these same issues on other networks and in other parts of the UK, and I have read that other people are having to manually turn off HSDPA to be able to make calls (using an app?). Even if I can stop HSDPA from connecting to make sure the phone works, I still can�t use the internet at all on 3g � even GSM works better!
Finally, when I connect to a bluetooth device (e.g. car and headphones) the phone will connect briefly, and then randomly disconnect. I have also seen this issue reported elsewhere.I very much like the phone and don't want to get rid of it, but these problems are making the phone unuseable.Also I don't know if I should be contacting HTC or Orange about this. Will the upcoming Android 2.2 fix these problems?Anyone know how to fix this or if I need a new handset? Are there any apps that can help? Also does the Nexus One have these problems and are they fixed by Froyo?

My app works on 1.5 emulator and 1.5 device. When i try to start it on 1.6 emulator, it produces strange exceptions (doesn't even start). I don't have any 1.6 device to try this app if it works on a real device.
I get some warnings in Eclipse ( warning: Ignoring InnerClasses attribute for an anonymous inner class that doesn't come with an associated EnclosingMethod attribute. This class was probably produced by a broken compiler.) and get cant rid of them (i think they come from some apache jars that i need to make http multipart posts).
Is it possible that this jars are cause for my exceptions in 1.6 or is it something else?

I'm developing on a Mac with Eclipse and the emulator sometimes doesn't seem to link to eclipse (doesn't show anything in the logcat). I just have to close and run again and it works. I wonder why this happens. Has anybody else experienced this?

I have a service in an APK which starts a Thread which has the following in it's run method; Code...
But the receiver doesn't receive the broadcast when I run it in the emulator (or at least the log message doesn't get received). Any hints?

I been working on default skin before, if i change my skin to WVGA , my layout displays only in a portion of the skin and the rest of screen is black.

I have a problem my emulator when i click on start button to run the AVD tehre is a command window that opens up and then there is nothing, the emulator window doesn't show up. I have extracted the sdk folder several time. deleted teh .android folder everytime . Can somebody tell me what is teh problem or what else can i do. Since its not running from sdk Setup.exe, in eclipse to i cant run it. Itsay launching the emulator but then there is nothing. Can someone tell me if android sdk as some log files where i can check the errors.

Single Threaded OpenGL game ! (check bottom, you can download and use the helper class) Lighting disabled ! Depth Buffer disabled ! Culling enabled ! Textures disabled !
Just 176 integers (x,y values only) making 88 vertexes along with 132 index numbers making "44 triangles only"
Framerates I get is
with GL_BLENDING disabled - 145 fps approx only! enabled - 110 fps approx only!

I tested by rendering on the touch event only.. frame rate drops only when u touch and drag and here I have just tested by tapping and releasing gently on the emulator and on the device
Is this the device limitations ? So graphics is actually a lot lot lot slower than on iPhone ?

I would like to be able to use the OpenGL API from both Java and C (via NDK).
In Java, there is a GL object passed, which has all GL methods on it.
In C, you just talk to the native library.
In a single onDrawFrame callback (for which Java is passed a GL), can I use methods on the GL object, and also call NDK methods which access the openGL library?
In other words, is the GL object just a wrapper for the same instance of the native library?

I am using a Timer in my android application, but i can't get it to work. When I start my application the Timer simply does not start. The application continues but does not update.The long "toStart" finds the number of seconds left of the current minute, and thereafter the period is set to 60 seconds. The TimerTask simply calls a method.
