Oct 15, 2010Ok I have been trying to figure this out for a while. I have an application that needs to read images from a folder created by the application on the sdcard. I have no idea what the names of the files are because the user specifies the names of the files. I need to read the images from the folder and make something like the default image viewer, where you can share them delete them and things like that. Im thinking read them into a grid view first but 1) cant figure out how to dynamically read them from a folder 2) how would I implement the image options like the default viewer? If there was a way to open the default viewer on a certain folder that would help.
Anyways any input would be amazing been working on it for a while.

Now what I understand is if I make two separate process one with my main application code and other as a service or something with Open source library then in that case I have to open source code only for the other one.
Now the question is what is the best way to do so in Android. Suppose My Main App is A Open Source code is B. So A will give some data to B. B will process this and sends data back to A. B may not need to have any UI.
1. Is it possible to install 2 seperate applications / processes from one APK? 2. What is the best way ?Should B be a service? How will be the communication between A and B ? 3. Is it possible to run/call B from A?

Nov 19, 2010I have an Options menu up and running in my Android application and I've overridden the onCreateOptionsMenu, onOptionsItemSelected and onPrepareOptionsMenu methods to customize the menu a little. My question is related to keeping the Options menu open after the user clicks on a menu item. Basically, I'd like to be able to hide the menu until the user clicks on the device menu key. Once the user clicks on this key, I'd like to be able to hold the menu in place regardless of how many times the user clicks on menu items. If the user wants to hide the Options menu, they'd just need to click on the device menu key again. Is this type of interaction supported (or even advisable).

Jul 1, 2010I have a ListActivity that uses a CursorAdapter to fill the rows in the view. I wrote a database helper class that gives me back results for common queries I make for my app, and it uses an SQLiteOpenHelper implementation I wrote to open the database. I use the open helper to open the database and get a cursor to pass to my CursorAdapter.

The problem I'm having, that I didn't have before I implemented the open helper (before I just opened the database directly without a helper), is when I click on an item, which takes me to another activity, and then go back to this activity. When it initializes everything is fine, and my list is populated fine, but when I go back from the activity that follows, the list is empty and in the LogCat I see "Invalid statement in fillWindow()".
It appears from a few post I've seen that the reason is, when I requery the cursor, the database is closed. But I'm not closing it! I'm scratching my head on this one.

Sep 7, 2010Since this is a popular program, I thought someone would be able to answer a few quick questions on this before I purchase it:
1) Is there the option to backup to the SD card (which I am assuming is where you would want your backups to go, so that you do not lose them in case you need to do a hard reset?
2) Is there an option to back up all data onto your desktop, so that if you lose your phone and need to buy a new one, all the data can be put back onto the new Droid?
3) Are there any things that you CANNOT back up with this program? Will all the apps that you downloaded from the Market get saved as well as all the data that you entered into these programs? (like will all the notes that you entered into AK Notepad be saved, as well as the program itself?)

Nov 21, 2010I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 and installed Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo) for Java Developers along with the Android SDK. When I add the following URL into the "work With" field under Eclipse's Install New Software menu:

No plugins appear between the "Work With" and "Options" sections. I understand I'm supposed to be able to select "Developer Tools". I get nothing. I've tried linking to http vice https. Also, downloading the zip from the android dev site itself yields the same result. When I run "Check for Updates", it comes back saying nothing to update. I also ran "Test Connection" for the above URL and it comes back positive.

Aug 4, 2010I was trying to set up my options menu so that there would be 2 buttons on the 1st and 2nd row and then 1 button on the 3rd row. Here is the code I was trying to use but I'm guessing groupID argument isn't what I thought it was.

menu.add(2, MENU_POSITION, 1, "by Position");
menu.add(2, MENU_COLLEGE, 2, "by College");

Maybe this is solved somehow with the XML Layout but I'm not really good with the layouts ;( So I managed to not get too far that way either.
