Android :: New Contact Not Visible In Droid / What To Do?
Jun 26, 2010
I am using the new Android 2.2 API to add a contact. I am using the following code to perform the insert. code...
The code executes fine without any exception. However, the new contact is not visible in the Android Contacts. I tried searching on the net but couldn't find any answer. What I might be doing wrong ?

Is there any way to display contact picker that has both number and contact name? Now I'm calling picker: startActivityForResult(new Intent Intent.ACTION_PICK,Contacts.Phones.CONTENT_URI),1);
But in a result I get only Contact names without visible numbers. To make things worse, if one contact has two numbers it occurs twice.

I'm developping an application in Android 1.6 (and can't use 2.0 or older).
I add a new contact on my phone as following code...
After that, I add phone numbers in the same way. It works as I am able to view the new added contact with following code :
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, contactUri);
this.startActivity(intent);
My problem is that, after adding and viewing the new contact, I can't see it in Contacts application unless I synchronized all my contacts (I also did a search with the contact's name, found it, nevertheless it wasn't added in contacts list).
How can I programmatically update the contacts in order to immediately have my new contact added in Contacts application?

Never mind. Contact reappeared for some reason, by itself, after about 10 minutes. Sorry. Useless thread.

I have added a MapView element in my android project. The project is not showing any error, but when i run the application on my emulator (Google API 2.2), the map isn't visible. Instead only the grid lines are seen. The DDMS is giving me "java.net.UnknownHostException: android.clients.google.com" exception. I have already added INTERNET permission in my application.

Does someone know what could be the reason why my application is not visible in the Android Market on the Samsung Galaxy sold by Bouygues Telecom in France? The app is copy-protected and compatible SDK 1.5.

I just woke up and the bottom half of my X's screen is black/grey with green lines! This is the FIRST issue i have had with this phone. Picture is from the only other camera in the house, my crappy webcam, so its hard to really see. Anyone else had this? Did verizon help (especially if you bought it from their site) what should i bring to the store to get it replaced?

One of the best features IMO of Home++ was not having the task bar visible at top of screen. I really liked just having the scrolling toolbar at bottom. Recently the task bar at top has shown back up. Anyone else experiencing this? Was this part of a recent update that I didn't pay attention to until just now?
I still really like Home++, even with that bar, just prefer not to have it.

Anyone else have this issue or know a fix? Contact pictures show in contact details and in the contacts app, but not in the dial or when I get a call. Contact management is the only thing I don't like about my X.

When adding new contacts to the droid x, it added it as both a goggle contact and phone contact. (i only have one goggle account setup). I went into contacts -> menu -> more -> settings. I am UNABLE to check/unchecked the "Phone Contacts" (it is always checked). The goggle one i am able to check/unchecked. WHY and HOW can i toggle the phone contact? Also, backup assistant only takes PHONE contacts and not GOOGLE contacts...while g mail contact sync only takes goggle contacts and NOT PHONE contacts. How can one change phone contact to goggle contact? (i have seen posts all over but no answers...and just replies saying "i have the same problem") I am trying NOT to have two (2) different types of contacts. PHONE and GOOGLE. I just want goggle contacts ( or phone contacts. so i can at least use verizon's backup assistant.

App is called Tasker. It should be visible in all Donut+ devices but it's only actually visible in Eclair+ devices. Tested on my G1, reported by other users (devices unknown).
Manifest:
<uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="4" android:targetSdkVersion="4" />
A dump from the compiled apk confirms that.
Here's the top of my Ant output:
Buildfile: build.xml [setup] Android SDK Tools Revision 6 [setup] Project Target: Android 1.6 [setup] API level: 4 [setup] Importing rules file: platforms/android-1.6/ant/ ant_rules_r2.xml
Copy protect is set to off.
And the app works fine when installed on a Donut device outside the market.
I noticed that appbrain also reports it as 2.0 and higher: http://www.appbrain.com/app/net.dinglisch.android.taskerm

I have an "Other Calendar" (a business partner's Google Cal) that shows up perfectly on Google Calendar but is not listed as a choice in Droid Cal. What is strange, though, is that it was visible up until recently. I was able to toggle it on and off on by Droid Calendar just fine. Now it's gone. Yet the calendar has not gone away and is still active in Google Calendars. I need that calendar!

In the android reference site, it is written in the serCursorVisible section that cursor is visible by default and you can give its value as either "true or "false" to change the its visibility on the GUI screen. But in my case , cursor is remaining invisible irrespective of setting the visibility "true" or "false" using android:cursor Visible = "true" in the layout/main.xml. Should I do something more to make cursor visible on the GUI screen or its a bug in android?

I have a HTC desire with Froyo 2.2, I'm not sure whether this is a Froyo issue but some of the apps I install are not visible in my all apps view, when I go to the market screen it says that they are installed and I can open them from there but they do not appear as a widget or app anywhere on my phone. The latest app to not install properly is the droid comic viewer, again I can use it from the market screen but can't find it anywhere else on the phone.

And then visible like this: myImageView.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
I don't know if myImageView is visible or not now, how can I check it like this:

How can I do that? What do I have to write within the brackets?

I'm going to create widget which needs to update its content every minute (it shows time-related data).
However, there is no need to update widget if it is currently invisible, which means:
screen is turned off
another app is running
widget is placed on another (invisible) home screen tab
What is the best way to update only visible widget every minute - without waking up device nor doing unnecessary computations? After widget becomes visible, small lag before update is acceptable.

I'm getting feedbacks from a few potential users that they can't see my application (blueBill Mobile) on the Market. I've checked it myself and for what I can see everything is fine. Today two persons reported the problem, one from UK and the other from Italy. They both have recent Android versions that are supported by my application. It sounds they are not doing any error in the search since they used the QRCode I've published on my website, that I'm able to confirm.

I'm at the beginning of writing an AddWidget for the home-screens. From what I understand, these can only utilize RemoteViews ran by the home-process and not your own. Which means we won't be getting any callbacks, such as onDraw. Is there a way you can get knowledge of how often and for how long a widget is visible? The RemoteView API seems very simplistic, what am I missing?

i have written an application that needs to process outgoing calls. Everything works fine, the application has already a few hundred downloads, but now i get feedback from people who would like to download it, yet cannot find it. I have done some tests and have found that the permission "PROCESS_OUTGOING_CALLS" seems to be responsible for this. If i include it in an app, people with branded phones (at least in Germany) cannot find it, as soon as i remove this permission, everything is fine (when i re-insert it again, the app vanishes again)
The weird thing is, that those users can see other apps which use this permission in the market. I have compared my manifest file to outputs from other manifest files and cannot understand why it doesn't work. Here is the manifest file for a test application i wrote to test the problem:......................

I've tried to search for similar problems, but can't seem to find it.
I run:
Windows 7
Java SE Developement Kit x64
Eclipse Helios (downloaded here from Eclipses homepage --> Downloads --> Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers --> 64 Bit)
"Android SDK Windows"
I've been following the guide from the Android Developers homepage.
I can launch Eclipse just fine. Under Help --> Install New Software ...
Here, I give it a name myself (Android Plugin Test), and under location, I've typed "http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse", as said in the link.
Then it find Developement Kit, and I install it and all that & restart Eclipse.
The following are now installed:
- Android DDMS
- Android Development Tools
- Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers
So everything seems fine.
BUT ..
When I go to Window --> Preferences, "Android" is missing.
I have no problems seeing General, Ant, Data Management etc.
So my question is, what's the problem ?
As said, I downloaded Android SDK, but when I try to run the setup, I get this error, about missing Java:
And that's where I'm lost.
Because, under installed programs, it says:
- Java(TM) SE Developement Kit 6 Update 21 (64-bit)
And yes, I have restarted after installing Java.
For some odd reason, it's not possible for to run the SDK setup with any compatibility. It's greyed out
(Yes, I'm admin, and I don't have any problems on other programs)
I checked the Requirements for Android SDK, and it says Windows XP & Vista, but not 7 .. But as far as I know, other people got it to work.
