I'm coming from BlackBerry to Android and two favorite apps were Viigo and FreeRange with their built-in full article reading support. Is anything available for Android with similar functionality. Opening up a browser to read full articles is so clunky. I'd be willing to pay for one. I've tried some of the existing free Android offerings, but they all open full versions in a browser.

Anyone knows of an RSS reader with nice UI, offline reading, and native (built-in) reading capabilities?
I tried feedR and NewsRob, but they both still need to jump to 'browsers' when I wanted to read full articles. This would mean their offline reading features would be useless to me. When commuting, I always had no signals, and it would be useless if I could only read short article because of no network receptions.

I am trying to build the Browser source code downloaded from the http://android.git.kernel.org/ site with android-sdk-windows-1.0_r1. I am getting a lot of compilation errors and it seems that many classes are missing in 1.0 which are being used by the Browser.
I am stuck into this and not able to figure a way out. Let me know if I am missing anything. Waiting desperately 4 a reply.

Use adb logcat, DDMS, or the DDMS perspective in Eclipse to look at LogCat and examine the stack trace associated with your error.

I just inherited a project at my workplace and I am having trouble having Eclipse act as an Adroid editor rather than a Java editor. Pretty much everything is under lined and I can't seem to find a way to change how it is interpreted. I have downloaded all of the Android SDK's and the Eclipse Plugin. I can create Android projects and write the code just fine, but everything is still underlining. I must be missing something simple. Any suggestions, something I missed or didn't download?

I'm using an ant build file that has been generated by android. Our Android application requires a JAR file that lives inside the lib folder of our project, so I need to adjust the classpath that ant is using when it builds stuff.
When I run:
ant -lib lib debug
the project builds just fine, but this should really be inside the build file itself. The build file that android generates references the android_rules.xml so a lot of this stuff is automated. I guess my question, what the best practice here when working with the Android build rules ?

If i have a apk file and want to know the package name and class hierarchy, how do i do it?
Suppose I have some sample APK file named "SampApp.apk" which contains classes inside "com.android.sampApp".
Is there any tool in Android SDK which shows the package name when APK file is passed as a parameter.
As the Class files are compressed to dex file I am not able to check the actual package name.

I've figured out how to draw Arabic characters properly (connected and right to left) using string literals like this:
textView.setTypeFace(Typeface.createFromAssets(getAssets(),"DejaVuSans.ttf"));
textView.setText("uFEB3uFE92uFE98uFE94");
But for some reason I cannot get the arabic to format properly if I read anything from a file using InputStreams like this:.....................

I'm writing a simple budget app for myself, and I'm having trouble figuring out how to write to internal storage. I don't seem to be writing to the file properly and I can't find any more in depth examples than the Data Storage article on developer.android.com. Basically, I'm trying to write a test float to the MyBalance file, then read it into balance. In my actual code I use try/catch statements around the file in/out operations but I skipped them to make the code more readable.
float test = 55; float balance; byte[] buffer = null;
FileOutputStream fos = openFileOutput( "MyBalance", Context.MODE_PRIVATE );
fos.write(Float.floatToRawIntBits(balance));
fis.read(buffer); //null pointer
ByteBuffer b = ByteBuffer.wrap(buffer);
balance=b.getFloat();
That's the gist of it, anyone see what I'm doing wrong? I went ahead and converted to/from String but I still don't think the file is being created. I have an if statement that reads from it if it exists in onResume() and it isn't being run. Lemme post some of my code. Here's how I'm writing the file, (setbal is an EditText and balanceview is a TextView):
balance = Float.valueOf(setbal.getText().toString());
balanceview.setText(setbal.getText());
balstring = String.valueOf(balance);
for (int i = 0; i < balstring.length(); ++i)
try { fos.write((byte)balstring.charAt(i));
} catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace();
}
I check if the file exists in onResume() like so:
File file = new File("data/data/com.v1nsai.mibudget/balance.txt");
Is that where an internal file for that context would be stored?

I attempted to use the new build.prop file to fix the market issue where some paid apps were not found for download.
Here is the process I used:
Download build.prop, place it on SD card. Use Root Explorer to copy build.prop into system/Deleted old build.prop file from system/ (I made a copy of the original and placed it in a folder on my SD card as a backup) Turned phone off. Turned phone back on and got to the Motorola logo, then the screen is black (backlight is still working, the screen is technically on, there just isn't anything on it).
Phone never gets to the boot animation and will not boot back up. Anyone know how I can fix this without having to flash the SBF 2.1 file again and re-root, install 2.2 update.zip, and download/setup all of my apps?

I'm using Android SDK 1.5 r3. I have source code of Media Provider which i wanted to modify. My intention behind is: add http server files in the data base & Music application can list urls & can play on Media Player. So that i've created new project with package like com.android.Media & copied all the java files & related resource & manifest files in project. But Media Provider is using some internal packages like android.media.MediaScanner, android.media.IMediaScannerListener, android.media.IMediaScannerService, android.os.FileUtils, android.os.SystemProperties, etc. I guess these packages are not available in SDK. So my question is how do I build the Media Provider source code & do my task ? What is the alternate development method is available in Android for this kind of task? Is is possible to create SDK from Android source code which contains above mentioned packages ? and I can use this SDK in windows to build Media Provider application.
