Android :: Need Mileage Tracking Application For GPS Locations
Nov 20, 2010
I'm looking for a Mileage Tracker App, if anyone knows of one. I plan on driving from location to location frequently throughout my work day, and I'd like to be able to save time on keeping track of my mileage by having an app that does it for me. What I'm looking for is to be able to get in my car, have the GPS on, open the app and press start. From there, I want the GPS to track my location, just like it would do for navigation. When I get to my destination, I want to be able press stop and have it tell me (and log on a daily, weekly, or monthly page) the mileage for each trip.
i.e.
11/20/10 3:35pm - 3:50pm 10.3 mi [View Map]
11/20/10 5:22pm - 5:45pm 24.6 mi [View Map] <--- Button to press to view map
I'd also like for it to record the path I took on a map (as seen above), so that I can easily identify where I am driving to and from, when trying to fill out a mileage sheet.

I've been using an app called Driver Log to track my mileage I drive for work. The app is simple, but it works. It has a start button and and end button. You press start and gets your current location. You press End when you get where you're going and it gets your end destination. Then it calculates the distance and uploads it to a Google docs spreadsheet. Again, it's simple, but it works.
The problem is that under 2.2 it doesn't work well. I gets your starting destination, but if the phone sleeps before you get to your destination, this is lost so your whole trip is a bust. The app is no longer in the market so I can assume the developer has no plans on fixing this. Can anyone suggest a similar app?

All new to this forum and just got my first android phone over the weekend which I'm really excited about and so far love every minute of it. The reason for this posting is because I'm looking for a certain application. I know there are many flight tracker apps out there but I seem to remember hearing about on app which you could just point your phone at a specific airplane it would give you information about where it originated and where it was headed, it was great because you didn't have to enter any information and you could track random flights that you saw going overhead.

I travel to different places to visit clients and spend few hours with each client any given day. Most of the time I am busy or forget to use a time tracker application to log my time in and time out. Are there any application out there that track time spent on a specific location. I use locale but it doesn't give me time spent at specific a location.

I have a listview populated by a text file hosted on my website that is parsed and made into separate list items. Each list item sends the user to a new activity to view more information on that item. My question is - how do I go about tracking the following data about my application..
# of views of the whole listview
# of unique views of the listview
# of times each list item is clicked
# of unique clicks of each list item

Anyone have a favorite simple paid / free application they use while jogging? I noticed some remarks that accuracy seems to differ across different jogging applications, and some stop tracking if you get a phone call or text message. Any GPS jogging applications that run also in the background so you can call or text?

I'm wondering if there's an app out there that can track traffic patterns/route times. I know that those Runners apps. can track speed/time to destination, but I'm interested in being able to track which highways/roads have the most/least amounts of traffic on which days and at which times, or which roads cause you to wait the longest at certain lights, so that I can know in advance (the app. would alert me which route to take on which day according to data collected over time). I've always been kind of fascinated by traffic patterns, but I'm also a fairly focused driver, so I don't generally look at times it has taken me on different days. You can feel like taking a back way one day, but does it really save you any time with all the lights you hit instead?

I travel on the road a lot for work, and traveling expenses are probably my largest tax write-off. Yet, I've been unable to find a nice app in the marketplace that allows me to simply input my starting odometer and my ending odometer when I get home, and arrive at a simple calculation as to how many miles I traveled on that particular trip and what my approximate tax write-off would be.
On the Iphone, I used to use an app called "MileBug". It was great. Sadly I haven't been able to find anything that compares to that app in android. Do any of you know of a good app for such a purpose? I'm not interested in the plethora of apps available to monitor my gas mileage or my MPG. I just want a simple application that allows me to quickly record my miles traveled per trip.

Tracking events and setting up Analytics for Websites seems easy. You create an account with one of the Analytics service providers like Google. They give you javascript code that you embed in your pages (whichever event you wish to track) and voila..you're done.
I have written a native application for Android phones, which is actually an adaptation of the actual web site. Now, I am required to setup Analytics and tracking for this native application.
Question:
How to do setup a native application for Analytics? We have Java Script code(not Google Analytics but for some other engine) that works for the original web site. Is there a way to incorporate that in the native application? I know Android supports Java Script via WebViews(Webkit);my application does not have webviews, it is native!
I have not worked on JavaScript since school so excuse me if I sound naive.

I am looking to create a map application. I want it to show a location that user selects from a list and show here the location is, then add a button on the map so that the user can navigate from there current location to the one selected. I have looked at tutorials but cannot find anything that does this. Anyone know where I might find a tutorial that shows this or how I can extend my simple map to show a given location.

I wrote some reverse geocoding, geolocation and proximity alert routines for my little Android app. I took my Android out with me when running errands to test my routines; they're kinda hard to test from my couch. Half of them didn't work. What's the best way to debug something like this? Sprinkle a bunch of printf statements (or whatever you call them in Java) throughout the app? Log everything to the sdcard? Write a toggleable view (is that even possible?) that acts as a console? Faber Fedor Cloud Computing New Jersey http://cloudcomputingnj.com

I have used the algorithm on http://www.movable-type.co.uk/scripts/latlong.html to find the distance between two points.
My two points are
long1 = 51.507467;
lat1 = -0.08776;
long2 = 51.508736;
lat2 = -0.08612;
According to Movable Type Script the answer is 0.1812km
My application gives the result (d) as 0.230km code...

I want to draw a bitmap on the screen by specifying the x,y locations of the four corners. I.e. I have a square bitmap and I would like to draw the:
CODE:.........
I have seen the Canvas method: public void drawBitmap (Bitmap bitmap, Rect src, RectF dst, Paint paint)
However I believe this takes the top, right, bottom and left coordinates to draw the Bitmap and not the corner coordinates. I need to specify the CORNER coordinates to draw the bitmap as I may need to stretch/distort the Bitmap (I am drawing the Bitmap on a 3D spherical model).

And once I have a project in eclipse, and if I have to import the same project from a new location, I get the message saying "Can't import, project of the same name already exists". Is this how it is? We cant import the same project from its 2nd location in eclipse? Everytime I delete the project from old location and put it in new. I know, it is a very unacceptable approach).

Am looking for a way to find images on the SD card, or at least images taken by the camera.
The ideal solution would be getting a collection of file paths or URIs for the images. I guessing you can do this through the MediaStore I just can't figure out how.

I don't know if I'm wierd, but I haven't found any topic about the subject. The thing is, I have data with lat and lng stored in my SQLite database, and I want to get the nearest locations to the parameters I put in (ex. my current location - lat, lng).I know that this is possible in MySql, and I've done quite some research that SQLite needs a custom external function for the Haversine formula (calculating distance on a sphere), but I haven't found nothing yet, that is written in Java and is functioning.Also, if I want to add custom functions, I need the org.sqlite .jar (for org.sqlite.Function) and that adds unnecessary size to the app.The other side of this is - i need the Order by function from sql, because displaying the distance alone isn't that much of a problem - I already did it in my custom SimpleCursorAdapter, but I can't sort the data, because i don't have the distance column in my DB. That would mean updating the DB everytime the location changes and that's a waste of battery and performance. So if someone has any idea on sorting the cursor with a column that's not in the database, I'd be grateful too!I know there are tons of Android apps out there that use this function, but can someone please explain the magic.
