Android : Moving OpenGL Objects With Fingers / Assign An Event Listener To Touch?

Nov 9, 2010

I'm developing an Android application with OpenGL and JNI (all OpenGL stuff is in C code).

Imagine I've drawn a cube. I want that user can push his finger over the cube and can rotate the cube and move it around the screen.

Is there any way to do that?

How can assign an event listener to touch and move events only when the user touch the cube?

UPDATE I want something like this: Rotate cube with fingers.

HTC Incredible : More Than Two Fingers Multi-touch

Jun 24, 2010

Alright, is it just me, or does the Incredible not really have the "maxTouch" sensor that's "capable of infinite multi-touch" because my Incredible only does two fingers, even on apps that are designed for more. This affects emulator play as well, if I hit the A button and then the D-pad in that order it will mirror the direction I hit and hit B for no reason, other than to piss me off that I can't play emulators correct. Does anyone know if this is a software limitation?

Android : Custom Event Listener On Droid App?

Jun 6, 2010

I need to set up a simple event listener to refresh a listview from once in a while. The problem is I don't know how could I generate an event.

I know that for events like key or button pressing I just need to implement the handler. But in this specific case I actually need to generate the event, which will be fired everytime another running thread of my app wakes up and refreshes it's list of news from a rss feed.

I've done everything, but got stucked in here. Can I get any suggestion or link with some more info on how to implement this?

I need to use GLSurfaceView to render some objects, and move or select the objects by finger touch. By overriding the onTouchEvent, I can receive incomming motion events. The motion event contains x and y position in the view, but can't map to open GL 3D world. Is there any way to know which object should be selected from received motion event?

Android :: Should Use Listener Interface Or Handler For Event Callbacks In Development

Nov 16, 2010

I'm new to Java, I'm porting over our Windows Phone 7 library to run on Android. Due to syntax similarities this has been very simple so far. Our library is basically an abstracted http message queue that provides data persistence and integrity on mobile platforms. It only provides asynchronous methods which is a design choice. On WP7 I make use of delegates to call the user supplied callback when an async message has been processed and the servers response received.

To achieve the same thing on Android I've found two ways so far - A simple Java listener interface that contains OnSuccess and OnFailure methods that the user must implement, or using the Android handler class which provides a message queue between threads(http://developer.android.com/reference/android/os/Handler.html).

I've gone with the Handler at this stage as if I'm honest it is the most similar to a C# delegate. It also seems like less work for a user of our library to implement.

Example of some user code to make use of our library:

CODE:.............

Using this the user can create as many different handlers as they'd like, called whatever they'd like, and pass them in as method parameters. Very similar to a delegate...

The reason I'm wondering if I should move to a listener interface is because the more exposure I gain to Java the more it seems that's just how it's done and it's how third parties using our library would expect it to be done.

It's essentially the same process, except each time you wanted to do something different with the server response i.e. You might be fetching different types of data from different endpoints, you're going to have to create a custom class that implements our interface each time, as well as implementing any methods our interface has. Or of course you could have a single monolithic class that all server responses were funneled in to but have fun trying to figure out what to do with each individual response...

What type of object do I use for a shape that I want the user to be able to drag around the screen for instance using touch gestures? How do I tie together the MotionEvent, View and Graphics2D to make objects drawn on screen that can be interacted with? I imagine this will use ActionListeners / Handlers but I'm a bit confused at this stage.

Android : Get Co-ordinates Of A Touch Event On Droid?

May 30, 2010

I'm new to Android, I've followed the hello world tutorial through and have a basic idea of what's going on. I'm particularly interested in the touch screen of my T-Mobile Pulse so just to get me started I want to be able to write the co-ordinates of a tocuh event on the screen, so say the user touched the co-ordinate 5,2 - a textview on the screen would display that.

At present I have a simple program that just loads an xml file which contains the textview I intend to write the co-ordinates in.

Thank you in advance, I did Google for help and searched stackoverflow but everything I found either went way over my head or wasn't suitable for this.

Android :: Touch Or Click Event With ListView Containing GridView

Here is my problem : I have a view containing a listView. And each row of this listview is composed of a linearLayout, itself composed of three textview and a gridView. Here is a summary of my layout for one row:

......

I want to perform an action when the user click anywere on an item of the listview. So I try these two approaches on the listview : - myActivity.getListView().setOnTouchListener(new View.OnTouchListener () {...}) - myActivity.getListView().setOnItemClickListener(new AdapterView.OnItemClickListener() { ...}) And here is the trouble : - when I click on the textview, it nearly works : the touch listener is called, but not the clicklistener - when I click on the gridView it doesn't work....the event is just dispatched to the element of the gridView.............

Android :: Keyboard Input - Touch Event Noisy

Jul 21, 2010

I'm working on a simple game: when you press a button on the screen, a character will run to certain direction. It's easy to support keyboard input. But, some phone doesn't go with a keyboard or even no a track ball. So I decided to draw a virtual "run" key on the screen (with opengl). When the user press the virtual key, I apply a velocity to the character. And when the user release the key, I disable the velocity to stop the character but there seems to be some touch event noisy. If my finger cannot press still, I will see millions of touch down and touch up events, instead of a single long pressing.

And occasionally, my program captured the touch down event when I touch the screen, but didn't capture touch up event. So my character will keep moving, even no finger is on the screen. I'm wondering if there is some way to reduce the touch event noisy and tell if the user is currently pressing on the screen, instead of only getting an event when touch up and down happen. It seems the system UI can detect long pressing, for example when you put a finger on one item of the list view widget, the entire item turns to orange. I just don't know how to detect pressing in my opengl game.

HTC Legend :: Moving Mechanical Key To Touch Screen

Jun 26, 2010

I have purchased a HTC Legend about 3 weeks ago and am very satisfied with this cell phone. My only concern is related to the reliability of the "mechanical keys" (Home, Menu, Return and Search) . I have interacted a lot with my cell phone and verified that I need to press the Home button many and many times to leave an application in order to go back to the main menu to get access to another application.
I would like to know if there is some application to create an icon in the Notification bar (on the top of the touch screen) in order to return to Home screen. This seems to be an interesting solution because the Notification bar is always active, regardless of the application that is running. In this case, the user could access it through the touch screen and avoid using the mechanical keys all the time, so that the user would not need to worry with the life time of the mechanical keys.
