Android :: Get Soft Keypad To Stop Modifying Linear Layout On Display?

Nov 12, 2009

In my android application, I have an Edit Text. When I click in this field, the soft keyboard appears, expanding from the bottom of the screen. It seems to actually modify my layout, pushing contents up wards. When I dismiss the keypad, it retracts, and I see my layout re-expand to take up the space it previously occupied. Is there a way to get the keyboard to simply appear "on top" of my layout, so that I don't get this somewhat unpleasant relayout animation? The Edit Text is pinned to the very top of the screen, so I don't have to worry about the keypad hiding it.

Android :: Re Ordering Child Views Of A Layout

Aug 29, 2010

I have a number of child views, each child is a TableRow and I need to be able to change the order of the TableRows, such that I can swap the rows into any order. I know there is a method called removeAllViews() but I don't really want to remove and re-create the views if its possible to access and change the order. I really want the display to update as smoothly as possible, taking the minimum amount of time, is it possible?

Android :: Making Child ListView Scroll

Jan 29, 2010

I am trying to make a terminal type app that is wider than the actual android screen. A listview is great except that I don't want the text to wrap. If the text is wider than the screen I want it to print the full text and then the user can scroll over horizontally if they want to see what was printed off the screen. Just FYI this is for ascii type tables. I have followed this example:

It works great as far as horizontal text goes it does exactly what I want but I am unable to get the ListView inside the custom LinearLayout to actually scroll veritcally. I have tried passing the Y coordinates from the onScroll method to mListView such as: mListView.scrollBy(0, distanceY); but that seems to move the custom LinearLayout window instead of just scrolling the ListView. I can tell that the ListView is not scrolling because the window moves without the vertical scroll bar of the ListView moving.

Android :: Scrollable Parent With ListView Child

Dec 14, 2009

I know it's considered taboo to place a ListView inside a scrolling container, so is there any "proper" way to accomplish scrolling of a container that has a ListView child in it? An example layout would look something like:

Header
---
"Sub" header
---
ListView with list items
---
Footer

Header and Footer need to remain static on the screen, and the middle content (Subheader and ListView) should scroll between them. I can't have just the ListView scrollable, because the subheader takes up too much space. As it is currently, the Header comes from an <include />, the Subheader contains several views including an Image and some text, and the ListView (actually part of a ViewFlipper) would contain an indeterminate number of items. The Footer has a couple buttons/tabs that are used to control the ViewFlipper (only one of the views in the flipper is a ListView).

The only way I can think of to accomplish this efficiently would be to place the Subheader inside the ListView as the first item -- is there any better way?

Android :: Linear Layout Horizontal With Wrapping Child Controls

Jun 2, 2010

Is there a property to set for Android's LinearLayout that will enable it to properly wrap child controls? Meaning - I have changeable number of children and would like to layout them horizontally like:
Example: Control1, Control2, Control3, ...

I do that by setting:
ll.setOrientation(LinearLayout.HORIZONTAL);
foreach (Child c in children) ll.addView(c);

However, if I have large number of children, last one gets cuts off, instead of going to next line.

Android :: Change Nested Layout's Child View Group's Width In Java Code?

Oct 6, 2010

I have a layout xml file with a linear layout. One of the children is again a ViewGroup Relative layout. In my java code i want to change the width of this child Viewgroup for my requirements. I tried this

ViewGroup childViewGroup = (LinearLayout)findViewById(childViewGroup);
LayoutParams l = childViewGroup.getLayoutParams();
l.width = 360;
childViewGroup .setLayoutParams(l);

I couldn't do this because findViewById(childViewGroup) doesn't fetch ViewGroups it does only for Views. Note: I cant define a whole new layout.xml for this minor requirement since it is huge layout file and might cause performance overhead. I wanted to just change the width of the child view group in my java activity code.

Android :: Crash To A ListView With Different Row Layout!?

Aug 31, 2009

I built an app to show a ListView with different layout of each row within it. I extend BaseAdapter to construct my own adapter class and override its getView() method. In getView() method, I use

view = mInflater.inflate(mResource, parent, false); to obtain which layout xml file that be needed to generate different layout for each row.

After coding and running, the problem occurs. While I'm scrolling the list, this app crashes and pop-up an warning dialog that says "The application has stopped expectedly. Please try again."

If I use the same layout xml file to enable each row has the same layout, everything is all right. Does somebody has any ideas about that?

Android :: Listview Custom Row Layout - Tried Many Combinations

Jun 13, 2010

I am having trouble getting my layout to give me result I need, I already tried many options and it seems that I'm doing something wrong or completely missing something.

I have a listview with a custom row layout I can't seem to working although it shouldn't be complex. I need of the list row to insist of:

Icon -- title text (bigger and bold) with a short multi line text under the title -- ImageButton

My problem in most of my tests is the icon to the right usually doesn't appear, I guess my center group grows and takes all the space of the button. My last failed attempt was with a Relative Layout, didn't have too much luck with a Linear Layout either.

Here is the row XML:

Android :: Custom Typface In Listview Row Layout

Aug 6, 2010

I am running a sqlite query and binding the returned data to a ListAdapter.

I have used the following example

ListActivity | Android Developers

However, having defined a seperate layout for the rows I cannot change the typeface for textview text1 to a custom one from assets

Here is the row layout

CODE:................

Here is the code from the andriod tutorial

CODE:............

We'll define a custom screen layout here (the one shown above), but typically, you could just use the standard ListActivity layout. setContentView(R.layout.custom_list_activity_view) ;

Query for all people contacts using the Contacts.People convenience class. Put a managed wrapper around the retrieved cursor so we don't have to worry about requerying or closing it as the activity changes state.

CODE:................

Now create a new list adapter bound to the cursor. SimpleListAdapter is designed for binding to a Cursor.
CODE:................

Specify the row template to use (here, two columns bound to the two retrieved cursor rows). mCursor, // Pass in the cursor to bind tonew String[]{People.NAME, People.COMPANY}, // Array of cursor columns to bind to. new int[] {android.R.id.text1, android.R.id.text2}); // Parallel array of which template objects to bind to those columns.
