When i am trying to run the example of Maps as in http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/views/hello-mapview.html, the menu button doesn't seem to work. I tried the default Maps app in the emulator and there it was working. Also i intend to add an item when a user presses that button, how can do it?

Problem :helloandroid application is not getting displayed in emulator menu . but this app is getting instaled , i am able to uninstall the application from emulator. settings>applications>manage applications>com.helloandroid its size is showing 20.00kb

I have noticed that although holding down the menu button will go to google search from the main screen, it no longer works in certain apps that used to work before the upgrade. In fact it doesnt seem to work in any apps.
I wanted to make the Menu button on my Android device open up my Application's settings and allow me to edit it when I am inside the Application.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently found out, that my Application developed for Android 1.6 does not work on Android 2.2. I'm quite puzzled about this, because its a very simple Application which almost does nothing. The Expeption I get is like that:
java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to instantiate application [packagename].AndApp:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: [packagename].AndApp in loader
dalvik.system.PathClassLoader[/data/app-private/[packagename]-1.apk]
The weirdest part is, that the Class it is searching for here does not exist and never has. The app itself does nothing than show some text in a textview. In Android 1.6 I dont get this problem and I cant see a reason, it event works in 2.1. The Manifest looks like that:

I have an application with main view having a search button. On clicking the search button, search results are displayed in a text view. When I hit the back button at this view, instead of navigating to the previous screen, application itself gets closed. Could anybody please let me know how to go back to previous screen.

That is odd because it doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to do, especially if Google Maps already gives turn-by-turn directions. I'm guessing it might have to do with the language or pronunciation of the streets. I don't mind using it in English, though.

should an Android application have an exit button (or menu function) or not? Ok, if there's some service or other resources consuming something running in the background I think the user should have an option to make it stop. But what about an application that would just sit there, inactive? If I take a look at the standard application it seems that the Android philosophy is to keep the applications running and let the system decide when to stop and destroy an application idling in the background. I didn't recognize "exit" or "quit" options in the standard programs. On the other hand - why not let the user decide and give the option to quit some software if he knows it's currently not used. So, what's the advice here? Give even a "passive" application an exit button? Or not and just leave it to the system?

If I make even a simple change to the layout, it takes about 30 seconds by time I run it in Eclipse and Android "boots", and I can unlock the emulator to run the application. View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are building an app for a device that will have a 1024x600 screen at API level 7, 160dpi (which, by the way, is going to be very popular very shortly with the Samsung Tab and other tablets coming on the market). When we start the emulator, the touch surface takes up the entire window, and we no longer see the emulator keyboard, hard buttons, or (most importantly) the menu button on the right. The emulator's window does not scale, so it is not simply a matter of making the emulator window larger, unfortunately.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get these very important buttons to appear in the emulator?
Google mapview does not load the actual maps in the emulator, just the grid. My overlays are displayed ok. sdk version 2.2. It works fine in a real phone. I use a debug key and trippel checked the manifest. It has been working in earlier projects. I just cant figure it out.. Any ideas, what to check?

However, I was trying to see how that maps for emulator running in a distributed fashion. If a node A (with IP address 129.10.52.x) in LAN A is running Emulator A (which will have the default IP address of 10.0.2.15:portA) wants to communicate with a emulator B (which will also have the default IP address of 10.0.2.15:portB) running on node B (with IP address 129.10.53.x) in LAN B how is the port forwarding setup in this case? The same way as if both emulator were running on the same machine? And why when I print the IP address of the emulator running on any of the nodes what's displayed is the loopback address 127.0.0.1 and NOT 10.0.2.15 which is the IP address that each emulator is assigned?

I found an app, "soft home" which creates a home button in the notification bar.Does anyone know of an app which does the same thing for the menu button? While Im on it, a second question: My browser which is the default browser of the hero goes full screen. This causes the notification bar to dissappear thus making the home button app useless. Does anyone know how to turn this fullscreen feature off/know a good browser which does not do so.

I have HTC Hero and I've found out that dragging down on the touch is not the only way to unlock the phone. If you press the menu button, it unlocks the phone, too. I don't know whether it's problem of the HTC device, Android or bad feature definition.
