Android : Mask Password Input In Fullscreen Virtual Keypad?
Feb 24, 2010
Can you guys share how can we mask password input in fullscreen virtual keypad. EditText setPinEditText= new EditText(context); setPinEditText.setImeOptions(EditorInfo.IME_ACTION_UNSPECIFIED);)
I tried using setPinEditText.setTransformationMethod(new PasswordTransformationMethod());
Masking the password input in portrait vkp mode works fine with this change but when I rotate to landscape mode, in fullscreen virtual keyboard mode it doenst worked.

Is there a way I can specify an input mask to the EditText control in Android?
I want be able to specify something like ### - ## - #### for a Social Security Number. This will cause any invalid input to be rejected automatically (example, I type alphabetical characters instead of numeric digits).
I realize that I can add an OnKeyListener and manually check for validity. But this is tedious and I will have to handle various edge cases.

How can you dynamically close the virtual keypad through code? All I want to do is close it when the user clicks an "Ok" button because it is not closing itself even though the button now has focus.

I have an issue with a virtual keyboard.
This Soft Keyboard Covers Data Fields - and can't See what's going on.
I want to use this soft keypad and at the same time it should not become a problem to use data fields.
So how can I manage the data fields in such cases?

I use the following code to pop up the soft input keyboard in my Activity
InputMethodManager imm = (InputMethodManager) getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE); imm.getInputMethodList(); imm.toggleSoftInput(InputMethodManager.SHOW_FORCED, 0); This displays the alphabetic keyboard. But I want to display the numeric keyboard. Please note I know that using setInputType() works when used with an Edittext or a TextView but I want to be able to display the keyboard without an input area such as an Edit Text and simply listen to the key presses on the keyboard. Can anyone confirm whether this is possible and if so how can it be achieved?

I am making a math program that reads in numbers from an edit text box, and creates / LU factors a matrix. When a user clicks into this field, the regular keyboard shows. It would be easier for the user if it were a numeric keyboard. When I use android:input Style="number" the amount of numbers allowed to be entered into the field is 1. How do I bring up the numeric keyboard without limiting the ability to enter multiple numbers?

I'm having a very very strange problem with input and textarea html tags in a WebView. Basically they never seem to gain input focus with the virtual keybaord. which shows a single input box. There is now way just tapping around the screen to get it to accept input. Strangely, if I use my trackball on my G1 to select the field, I can eventually get focus and type in it. For trackball-less things like the N1, that doesn't help though.

Inside TextView.java, I have the following code.
InputMethodManager imm = (InputMethodManager)getContext ().getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE); Log.d("tag", " fullscreenmode test: " + imm.isFullscreenMode());
and also, InputMethodManager imm = InputMethodManager.peekInstance(); Log.d("tag", imm.isFullscreenMode());
My phone is in landscape mode. My application has an EditText. My keyboard(virtual/soft) is not visible. I expect the above codes (written inside TextView.java) to print false. But it prints true. How is that possible?

I just setup my Activesync to Exchange 2007 and now every single time I turn the phone on I have to put in my password. My Exchange settings on the server are to require password after 1 hour of non use so I set the screen timeout to that but that appears to be just for the screen.
Anyone know how I can have an HTC Incredible not require a password everytime I turn it on?

I need to put a good password keeper on my phone. There are many, of course. I want to get one that also has a desktop version. My question is when syncing, what do you feel is more secure? Syncing to a cloud such as Dropbox or straight WiFi sync between my phone and pc?

Is there any way to fully mask browser ID (on default or other browser). On my "other" device, I could ID either the stock browser or Opera as IE and access non-mobile versions of sites that have sniffers.I do not see the same options on Android. I can disable mobile view but it will not get by some sites that still force mobile versions.

I have a single-channel PNG file I'd like to use as an alpha mask for Porter-Duff drawing operations.If I load it without any options, the resulting Bitmap has an RGB_565 config, i.e. treated as grayscale.If I set the preferred config to ALPHA_8, it loads it as a grayscale ARGB_8888 instead.How can I convince Android to treat this file as an alpha mask instead of a grayscale image?
mask1 = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(pngStream);
// mask1.getConfig() is now RGB_565
BitmapFactory.Options maskOpts = new BitmapFactory.Options();
maskOpts.inPreferredConfig = Bitmap.Config.ALPHA_8;
mask2 = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(pngStream, null, maskOpts);
// mask2.getConfig() is now ARGB_8888 (the alpha channel is fully opaque)

I have had this same problem happen twice to me on 2 different phones on 2 different Verizon accounts!
The password screen locks and when it asks for the user name and password it states invalid user name / password!
Is this a known problem since when I called and talked to both Verizon and HTC the only thing they could tell me was to do a hard reset and they weren't aware of this problem?

I want to have a couple of layouts and have one of them animate to reveal the layout below. I've attached a crude image of what I'm attempting to do.
As the top layout animates out of the way, I want all of its contents to remain in their relative positions. The same goes for the layout behind.
I have tried setting one of the layout's height to 0 and then animated it to be full height, but this reeks havoc on the scaling and the placement of the elements inside. I also tried implementing the solution in the link below, but it didn't do what I needed.

Is there a way to draw a circular gradient mask on a bitmap in Android? Trying to produce something similar to a foggy window. Click the window and a transparent circle shows up revealing whats behind the window. Prefferably using a gradient so the center of the circle is completely transparent and the further out from the center the less transparent. Is this possible?

I would like to show a custom input field (specifically, one containing only 9-0 and two extra buttons containing decimal separator (, or .) and a delete button). I could create a custom IME, but (as far as I know) that would have to be set by the user as the system-wide input method. Is there a way to implement an input method and bind it to a specific input field?

Currently my application allows the user to set the application to run in full screen. I than check in every activity at onCreate() if the user has set to make the app run in full screen. Is there a better way to do this? I have many other settings that I do and I find this method a little bad in terms of code design. Is there a way to set full screen for the lifetime of app or until I set it back to not full screen? One way to do it would be to have a custom Activity class that does these checks and all my activities can just implement it? would that be slow is it recommended?
