Android :: "Keyboard Not Responding" In Emulator / How To Avoid It

Jan 19, 2010

I'm using Android 2.1 SDK on MacOS 10.6.2.

When I try to run the standard Notepad app in the emulator, I get the expected messages from Eclipse. code..

deprecated. Apps should cease use of QuickDraw and move to Quartz.code...

Then it starts to go wrong. A dialog flashes on to the screen too fast for me to read it.

Then notepad starts (I have to "unlock" the screen manually by dragging the lock tag)

Then there is a "Force close or wait" dialog that announces "Application Android keyboard (in process com.android.inputmethod.latin) is not responding."

The app won't do anything further at this point. I have not made any changes to the app.

Has anyone else seen this error?

Does anyone have advice on how to avoid it?

I noticed last night while on the charger I have the following problems...

1. Backlight no longer working behind the home keys.

3. Long pressing the letters to get a number or symbol doesn't work.

Unplugging the phone instantly fixes all three. Just wondering if anyone else is noticing similar?

Motorola Droid X :: Refurb - Swype Keyboard Not Responding

Oct 30, 2010

I just received my refurb droid x and its complete garbage. All stock and it lags like crazy in every aspect of the phone. I've literally shut it off three times the past hour to avoid throwing it. my swype keyboard will stop responding for twenty seconds after every word. Sometimes it stops in the middle of words. Every part of the phone behaves like this. I'm going to try a custom rom to see if it helps. It came installed with 2.2 also. Anyone else having these problems with refurb phones?

Motorola Droid :: Keyboard Not Responding Properly - Software / Hardware?

Jun 30, 2010

When I am using the on screen keyboard in the vertical position, the "q" and the up arrow key don't work. When I push them the button next to it depresses. So when I hit "q" the "w" key is depressed. When I push the up arrow the "z" key gets pushed. All of the other keys appear to work. This crept in the last few days. I am currently running the Bugless Beast .4 with no theme at this point. I did a full wipe before the install. I also loaded the stock 2.1 and did a wipe before I loaded. To troubleshoot I have done the following:

Wiped the phone
Loaded a new ROM - Problem was there from the start
Let the apps restore from the market and then did a shut down and a battery pull
Keyboard worked perfectly for about 5 minutes then started acting up again
Created a new Google account that would have NO saved settings or application in the market
Wiped the phone again
Loaded BB .4 and logged in with the new account I created
Issue still exists

When I have the phone in landscape mode the number key when pressed hits the Shift button above it and occasionally the screen locks up. I have to hit the power button to turn the screen off and then back on and swipe and then I can use the keyboard again. I tried to load Better Keyboard version 5.x and still had the same keys busted. I got this phone through Craigslist back in January so I have no warranty.

Android :: Popup Soft Keyboard In Emulator

Nov 10, 2010

I wrote an app with lots of layout screens and it worked OK in emulation but when I ran it on my Droid Incredible the soft keyboard popping up changed the layout of a LinearLayout I was using - shoving some elements aside and changing the height of others! I fixed it by adding android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustPan to the Activity element of the manifest but I really would have preferred to discover this problem in emulation and not on a real phone. So, is there a popup soft keyboard in the Emulator and if so how do I invoke it?

Android :: Android Prevent Device Emulator From Popping Up Onscreen Keyboard?

Sep 8, 2010

I am developing an Android application. What I find most annoying during testing is, that the emulator always pops up that on-screen telephone keyboard whenever I click into a text input field. Since I input my data with the keyboard anyway I find that most annoying. Can one switch that on-screen keyboard appearance off? Or can one change that so that it at least presents a mini-qwerty keyboard as my actual device does, not that old-fashioned T9 keyboard?

Games :: Mini Bluetooth Keyboard Work For Games / Emulator?

Jul 1, 2010

Browsing around the net at work today for Bluetooth Game Controllers, I came across a Mini Bluetooth Keyboard HERE - it's also selling on Ebay. It claims to be compatible with Android, but as we're all learning Android on one phone isn't the same as Android on another.

I'm wondering two things really: 1) Anyone know if it is actually compatible with Android and moreso if it's compatible with HTC Incredible
and 2) If it is compatible, once connected, can you use it in conjunction with Game Emulators (I have the popular one for GBA) so that I could use the buttons on there to play the games.

It's the perfect size for a game controller (too bad they don't also make one for that purpose) and would be much better than the touch screen controls which impede on the game.

Motorola Droid X :: APP - ROOT - Keyboard - Keyboard Manager - Dual Keyboard - Portrait - Landscape Switch

Nov 10, 2010

I tried it and it works so far.

Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.

From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers

Verbage:

Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.

Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.

To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer

The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'

Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion

Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.

The app is still in development.

Android :: ListView Items Not Responding To Tap

May 28, 2010

I'm just getting my feet wet with Android and have built a UI that contains a TabHost with three tabs. Each tab is powered by its own Activity. The first Tab contains a listview with a prepopulated set of rows and is built from a custom ArrayAdapter.

The problem I'm running into is that none of the ListView rows are tappable. In other words, when I tap on them there is no orange selection. If I use the scroll ball on my Nexus One it will select, but any touch gestures don't seem to be responding. All the UI is being handled using XML files with a main.xml housing the TabHost -> LinearLayout -> TabWidget/FrameLayout and a nearby_activity.xml file containing my ListView UI

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"

Android :: Error Using SDK And AVD Manager / Avoid It?

Dec 17, 2009

I'm trying to get the android SDK set up on my computer, but every time I start the SDK and AVD manager and try to connect to the repositroy, I get this error:

Failed to fetch URL https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/repository.xml, reason: Connection timed out: connect

I have no HTTP proxy, and I have also tried checking the box "Force https://... sources to be fetched using http://...", but that doesn't work either.

When I go to https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/repository.xml via firefox, I can see the xml file, however it takes a minute or two to load, making me wonder if the sdk's timeout is too short for it to actually connect to the server??

I am on windows 7 Professional, 4GB ram, AMD Turion x2 ultra processor, Java details:

java version "1.6.0_17" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode, sharing)

And I downloaded the android-sdk_r04-windows sdk...

I've searched the web, and the only simmilar problem I can find is this link: http://www.mail-archive.com/android-beginners@googlegroups.com/msg168..

Android :: Avoid History Of Activity?

Oct 13, 2010

I have total 3 activities.
First activity(A) starts second activity(B). From Activity B, 3rd activity(C) is called.

Activity B, shows list with checkbox to select items and single OK button. On clicking OK button Activity C is called with selection.

When user clicks BACK button in Activity C, by default Activity B is displayed (with selected checkbox).

I want to display Activity A when BACK button is clicked in Activity C.

How to achieve that?

I have handled OnKeyDown() in Activity C to startactivity(A). it is working. But when user clicks BACK button on Activity A, again Activity C is displayed. while application should end.

In this direction how to skip Activity B is ever called?

How To Avoid Clean Build Using Mm-B On Android

Oct 11, 2012

I am building an Android Application that has a lot of C modules that has the sequence of Java->JNI->C code. I am currently building all the C modules using mm -B option in the Android baseport (Android source code) within the external folder. When I want to build all C modules, I call the individual modules' mm -B function one after the other. I have 2 questions in this regard.I wanted to know if there is a way to do incremental build on a set of modules. The scenario here is that I am building a set of modules one after another from a script. I have observed that all the modules mentioned in the script get built irrespective of whether a change has been made to it or not. This clean build takes time. Is there a way out of this?

Whenever mm -B is executed, the libraries built are placed in out/target/product//obj/lib/ path by default. I wanted to know if we can change this path and whenever the mm -B command is called, the libraries are copied to the corresponding modules paths and not to this common path.

I dont have much knowledge of the envsetup.sh that has the definition of these mm and mmm functions.
