Android :: Is It Possible For An Android App To End A Call That It Initiated?
Jul 6, 2010
Looking through forums, it seems that there is not a way to end calls, but on the Android Developers page, the permission PROCESS_OUTGOING_CALLS "Allows an application to monitor, modify, or abort outgoing calls." I can't find any documentation on how to end a call even with this permission. Is this possible, or is it just a mistake on the page?http://developer.android.com/reference/ android/Manifest.permission.html#PROCESS _OUTGOING_CALLS

I've recently bought a MKT6577 Galaxy 3 clone - HDC S9380.
The phone is running on Jelly Bean 4.1.1
Whenever I'm making an outgoing call there is a call connected vibration when the call is picked up by the other side, the feature is nice, but the problem is that the person I'm calling is able to hear this vibration in their phone. Is there a way to disable this vibration, or delay the microphone initiation?
I already tried changing all the sound and vibration settings in the phone without any success.

I'm an experienced C++/Java dev who has been truly enjoying that past two days of getting neck deep into the Android SDK. I can foresee a lot of sleepless nights ahead Now, being arrogant due to experience (lol) I basically wrote a hello world Activity, got it to work and promptly decided to write an out of process service with accompanying client for project #2. Android is so well thought out (if not exactly documented although that's an 'over time' issue inmho) that I had basically implented everything but callbacks into the client before realizing (and feeling like a total idiot) that there's a very nice example called RemoteService (lol @ me - again) Basically, this validated everything I'd been doing, although I did notice that because my client is in its own project and namespace and my service is in another project and namespace (but the same Eclipse workspace) that I had to have the service entry in my service's manifest AND my client's manifest (that one took me a while to figure out) in order to bind on the service. Anyhow, everything's great, I am starting to love on Android (figuratively) but I've run into <BRITISH-NESS>a bit of a sticky wicket, eh, wot?</BRITISH-NESS>.
When my client Activity binds on my service (which is running in its own process) and calls the equivalent of 'registerCallback', the interface is added perfectly to the RemoteCallbackList object and I can immediately (right on the next line of code) use the interface to send a notification to the client. Now, my problem is that when my main service thread tries to pull the interface out of the RemoteCallbackList via the broadcast methods, the RemoteCallbackList is always 'empty' - it returns 0 from beginBroadcast. After double checking ensure that I AM actually adding it to the list (because I've been a collossal idiot before) and that I am getting success back from 'register', I immediately think it's a threading issue, so: I add logging code to the service in key places to log what the thread id is repeatedly, and I think "uh, I think I need to use a handler of some sort to make the call back in the thread that handled the registration" and to double check I call beginBroadcast right after 'register' and find that it always returns back the correct number of callback interfaces. So it VERY much appears to be a threading issue (to me) so now I'm a bit stuck I've written a handler so that my main service thread can request the correct thread to actually call 'beginBroadcast' and then thought 'how is it going to know what thread that is...?' and instead am now thinking I need to pass, via a handler or something, the incoming interface from the thread that runs when the client calls the equivalent of 'registerCallback' to my main service thread. What part of the proper paradigm am I missing? BTW, as an example of the thread IDs, my main service thread is #1, the runnable I use for tasks in the main service thread shows an ID of #1, the message handler I was thinking I could use, shows an ID of #1, but the thread ID I get in my code in the service that runs when the user registers their callback is #7.
If I plan to notify clients when the service notices something it thinks they need to know, do I need to notify (somehow) the clients via the thread with ID #7 or do I need to pass the interface I get when the user registers their callback from thread #7 to thread #1 and call 'register' on the RemoteCallbackList from thread #1? Sorry for the verbosity but I figured more is better than less. Again, everything works great except this one little part.

I use Google Voice (love it) primarily because of it's visual voicemail on my Droid. I do have a Google Voice number, and I'm trying to decide whether to set the Droid app to "make calls using Google Voice" or not.
I have no problem with giving out a different number, and my placed calls seeing the GV number in caller ID.
My question is, does this affect how the call is actually connected, from a quality standpoint? I tired a call both ways, and the sound quality seemed a little bit different. But then, I am an obsessive compulsive weirdo.
Is there any difference in call quality or routing between making a native Verizon call and a Google Voice call on Droid? (Like, does Google voice actual use 3G to connect to Google server over the internetz, then place the phone call?)

I am trying to make a VoIP application and I wanted to know if it is possible to do the following with the Call Logs content provider -
I want to add new Call Log records for the VoIP call along with the call logs for the regular call. How can I add new records to the existing Call logs content provider?
I want to add custom fields to the Call Logs like a session ID and SIP address(name@domain) field. How can I customize the call logs database?

I'm having problems during the "read" call of the InputStream. The call gives me a "IOException: Software Caused Abort" exception. I'm able to get the BluetoothSocket and also the able to "connect" to the device. My app. is in the client mode and sends in a "x" byte "command" to the device which is then supposed to send me a "response". The expected "response" is also of "x" bytes. This is where the error arises.. While reading the "response" i'm getting the above mentioned error.

Is it possible to make a call from an activity and make sure the activity doesn't keep running while the call is in session? And, once the user is done with the call (by pressing the hangup button or whatever), the call log screen wouldn't get shown and the user would be directed to a new activity within the application. I know there's ways to detect calls and call hangups through services, but, I'm not sure if it's possible to make an activity from an app pop up as soon as a call is over.

scoured "call volume" threads and not sure if this is experienced by anyone else. Intermittently when I answer a call I can barely hear the other person. Call volume is at the highest setting. I try making it lower then higher and nothing changes. If I end the call and call the same person back I will get normal call volume behavior. This happens every 5-10 phone calls.
sound like an issue with the hardware?

code:...................
You see I'm drawing it on top of a Camera view and the information being drawn is subject to change. I have a listener setup which will update the variables being drawn at the appropriate time but I now want to "refresh" this draw in that listener.

Hi. I am looking for some advice with regards to how I receive calls on my Xperia X10i. Basically, the story goes as follows...normally when I receive a call I have to do that swipe thing to accept the call, however, at very random times instead of the swipe I get the option of pressing 'Accept Call' or 'Decline Call' which are displayed on the lower part of the screen side-by-side. Now, to be perfectly honest I actually prefer the latter option but do not know why it is so random. To be clear, I have never updated my phone since I got it and I have searched the settings but not been able to locate anything which would explain this.

Since the time I have upgraded to KitKat- I have been facing the issue of Call History. Every Time I miss a Call and I click on the name/number- Its asks me to select a default option of whoch way to open that entry , that is, through Dialer or through History. I tried selecting history and clicked on the "always use this option" but the same thing kept happening every time. After a few tries, I chose the other option and did the same thing and it again kept appearing... It looks like there's a bug in this and it never really saves my preference.

every time I make a call, receive a call, turn the phone off, turn the phone on, loose service or gain service, a voice says "Verizon Wireless". This is very annoying and I can't seem to figure out how to turn it off. Changing ring tones and such does not work, still says "Verizon Wireless". Is there anyway to turn this off?

I don't remember my DroidX always doing this, but recently after I hang-up from a call it shows the "Call Time XX:XX" in the center of the screen and I can't do anything until it goes away, which is generally 5-8 seconds. Hitting Home, Back, etc does nothing and tapping on the screen or the message also does nothing. Is this a setting I can disable? I can look at the recent calls to get the length of call if I need to see it, so I don't need the dramatic pause to give me this info.

1) Before the update, there was a sound that indicated when the call was ended. Anyway to get that back?
2) Has anyone figured out a way to change the end button behavior that was previously controlled by the Spare Parts app? I would like to end button to go home and then go to sleep but Spare Parts can't do it under the new software. Any ideas?

Dunno if this has been covered and maybe this is a stupid question. I have not had the phone long enough to have much call waiting experiences but the times I did, I noticed I had to press menu and then go thru a menu to "click over" to the other call. This is g=fine and dandy from the comfort of your couch but is not advisable if you are driving a car. Is there a one button shortcut to go to the other call without having to look at a menu?
