I have a TextView and I want to increase its height on runtime.I have used android:layout_height="wrap_content" but it did not gave me the desired result.I'm using a Relative Layout.i get text through edittext and i want to set it on textview.When i do this it shows only one line, and when i click on edittext it get expanded and full message is shown.

I have edited the post because I omitted part of the code to make it simpler but I think I may suppressed the problem too. It runs in a endless loop, could be this the mistake?
On CM 10 (JB 4.1.2) the status bar height is very small.
How do we increase only the height of the status bar?.
This is not a dpi resolution question because dpi changes the size of everything on the screen and the intention here is to only increase the status bar height, and of course the size of the contents within the status bar accordingly.

The way I am doing it now is by using Paint's measureText() to get the width, then by trial and error finding a value to get an approximate height. I've also been messing around with FontMetrics, but all these seem like approximate methods that suck. I am trying to scale things for different resolutions. When I receive a text it usually tells me the time in eastern time though I'm pacific. However, my sent messages come up with the right time. This makes it so that threaded sms is kind of useless. Everything is all out of whack. Also, every once in a while it just won't even give me a time and there has been once or twice(after fiddling with it for a bit) that it gave me the right time but it just went back to the wrong time right after. Could this be a problem with the phone or is it rogers' fault? I'm assuming it's getting the time from the network and they have it wrong(meaning I can't fix it) but I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem.
Also, is there any way to make it vibrate when I receive a text? I feel dumb for asking this as it seems like it should be something really obvious but I can't seem to find it anywhere.
I am having problem with a GridView within a RelativeLayout, which is again within a ScrollView. The problem is that the height of the RelativeLayout is not following the height of the contents of the GridView. When there are more than one rows, the GridView is clipped and a scrollbar appears, which is undesirable. I have tried to illustrate my problem using an screenshot from the Android hierarchy viewer. You can see how the red RelativeLayout box has clipped the second row of the GridView. I am pasting the XML layout of the page (page.xml) and the individual grid item (griditem.xml). I have a selection for some items using a spinner widget. At the moment the spinner will load a simple Textview and show the name of the item.It is possible to define an own view to show inside the spinner row?
