View 1 RepliesI use this code to generate a spinner in my app:

On my device (Motorola Milestone) and in the emulator this looks like the standard gray spinner widget.
On of my colleagues uses a Motorola Backflip and on his device the Spinner is black. Now its very hard to read the font in the spinner.
What do I have to do to use my own view for the spinner? I don't mind to have the gray spinner on all devices, but it should always look the same on all devices.
I have an xml layout file which contains a few widgets including a Spinner
I want to display a list of strings in the spinner, the list is generated at runtime as a result of a function so it can not be in arrays.xml.
I tried doing:
CODE:...........
But this crashes my application.
One of my apps implements a search function which is invoked when the user presses the Search button. In 1.6, Android Quick Search Box can be suppressed by overriding Activity.onKeyDown() and picking out KEY_SEARCH. On Android 2.0, no more... Android's Quick Search pops up no matter whether Activity.onKeyDown(), Activity.onKeyUp() is overridden, or Activity.setDefaultKey(DEFAULT_KEYS_DISABLE) is set. Has anybody had any luck getting rid of the Android Quick Search?

When a button is pushed I need a calculation to run using various inputs, including the current selection from 'aperture' and a value derived from 'mode'. How do I call the value of a spinner so I can use it in a calculation?
Also, how do I use the spinner 'mode's selection to set this other value before implimenting it in the calculation? To be more specific, if the spinner is set to Small then the value I use in the calculation is 0.015, whereas if Large is selected I need to use 0.028
My other inputs are EditText views, so right now I am set up like this:
CODE:............
That is not the actual equation, it is just a test to make sure everything connects properly. How would I call the value of spinner 'aperture' and the Small/Large spinner 'mode'
is it possible to suppress all notification messages e.g. incoming call or sms notification? Actually, I am developing a game and I want to given an option to user to mute all notifications (some thing like do not disturb :)) while playing game.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have designed an app that logs into a web service by using a WebView instance. Each time the login form is submitted, the WebView asks whether the password should be stored now, later, or never (the typical dialog when logging in with the Android Browser). Is it possible to override this behaviour? I would like to suppress the notice, because the user data is handled by my app.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a spinner widget in my activity which lets users pick a list name.
Normally, the function of the spinner is to switch between lists but for a couple of instances, I swap out the selection change listener to perform a different function with the same list of options. Once the selection has been made, the old listener is restored and life goes on.
This is a bad and buggy arrangement. Instead, I would like to have a function that just takes a selection listener and some other parameters and shows a popup list that's populated by the same cursor (or and identical cursor) as the spinner, without using the spinner itself.
Is there any way I can do this?
I am trying to populate a spinner depending on another spinner's selected item, my code is the following:
CODE:.................
what is intriguing me is that the first spinner onitemselection works perfectly ( I can see the values in LogCat) then when I change selection of the 2nd spinner I am gettging an error on this line: String selected= (String) s2.getSelectedItem(); So the compiler gets insisde then onItemSelected function of the 2nd spinner but throws an Handler exceltion on s2.getSelectedItem()
why? it works perfectly for the 1st spinner.
If you ever tried to write a locker app on Android sure you meet this problem: Code...
Seems like onKeyDown is filtering out all keys but "Back" and "Menu". Well, it's not true! Home button will still bring you Home screen and End Call button will run native Locker application!
Fellow's out there also claim it as a problem: How to listen from ENDCALL button problem With Home Back screen button Suppressing Key presses in Activity, especially in Options Menu
Issue 4202: Feature Suggestion: permission for intercepting KEYCODE_CALL
Do you know any workaround to block two those buttons? Is the only way (as often) - write in C ?
I am trying (as many are doing) to populate a 2nd spinner out of the first spinner selected item like this:..............
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have CM10.1 (I'm using the nightlies) and I'm using the stock email app which I love. However it's missing one feature that I'm hoping another app (whether that's a replacement email app or something that works with the stock email app) might have.
I'd like to "pause" direct-push email functionality during a certain time frame. Essentially I'm tired of seeing emails during my off-hours and I'd like to stop it from syncing automatically during those hours. Just suppress the notification during those hours (it can sync all it wants as long as I don't see it).
Is this a possibility with the stock app?
I am trying to suppress logging output from BT since it spams my debug session.
The log looks like this:
CODE:..............
And I am using this command line to watch logcat:
CODE:.......
And yet it still persists to log. I think the problem is that the component is actually BT HS/HF but I am not able to quote it appropriately.
I can use this command:
CODE:..............
But that feels like a hack - besides, I might miss buffered output through the pipe.
I noticed something odd. I have a listview with custom BaseAdapter, and getView() inflates a layout. On 1.6 SDK (I've been developing on a G1), if I set android:clickable="true" on the layout, then the item is NOT clickable (but otherwise the item is clickable). Is this the correct behavior? It seems backwards to me. Furthermore, no matter now matter how i set android:clickable for the same layouts using 2.2 SDK (run using emulator), the layout always is clickable... eh? I'm really bothered by this.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to display a pretty image of a map of Europe, and I want my app to, e.g. bring up a different activity, when the user clicks each country - each country on the map needs to have a different onClickListener (or equivalent). Essentially, I need to be able to call a different function when the user taps on France rather than Spain in an image such as this:http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Blank_map_of_Europe_cropped.svg How would I best go about this on Android?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a ImageView and draw some things on that view. Now I want to have the position of the click in the onClickListener. Although I think that's not really possible (storing the position in the onTouchListener is not working), I want to ask, if there is any other way to accomplish that? The goal is to have a image with some overlays, that should be clickable. I thought about AbsolutLayout, but that is depracated, so what now?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm subclassing InputMethodService to create my own personal keyboard. A lot of stuff already works quite nice. But now I'm playing around with the suggestion bar (also called "candiate view"). For now I'm just trying to load a static layout with one button in it:
@Override public View onCreateCandidatesView() {
LayoutInflater mLayoutInflater = LayoutInflater.from(this);
mView = mLayoutInflater.inflate(R.layout.suggestion_bar, null);
return mView;
}
The result looks like this: Which is exactly what I expected, but with one big issue: the button in the suggestion bar is not selectable or clickable at all.
So I waste a bit of screen real estate on my Droid with a few photos of my family. I just like to have a photo on each page. I was wondering if anyone has run across a Photo Frame app that is clickable to a defined action like "Call Wife".
Anyone run across an app like that?
Seems like a pretty easy app to write, but I am having a hard time finding one...
I want to create a scrollable map and trigger different actions when the user touches a different areas. With iPhone, it was easy by putting buttons on top of the image. How do I do it in Android? I used a custom view to enable scrolling in both directions. Now how do I make different parts of the image trigger different events on click?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a clickable TextView with a drawable as its background. I'm looking for the right way to implement a down-state drawable so the background changes when the user presses down. I have been able to almost perfectly replicate this behavior by listening for MotionEvents and changing the background when the user is pressing down.. The only thing that doesn't match up with system-wide down state behavior here is that if the user keeps holding down and moves their finger off the button, the state remains down until they release their finger from the screen... whereas in Maps overlays or Buttons or ListViews or anything else the state immediately goes back to off when the finger moves from the object.
