I am writing an app that allows a user to set the phone's wallpaper from a list of pictures.
By default it scrolls across the multiple home screens. I want the wallpaper on the home screen to be a static non-scrolling image.
What can I do programmatically to achieve this? Is this even possible?
I am using wallpaperManager.setResource(...); to set the wallpaper.
Tried wallpaperManager.setWallpaperOffsetSteps(0,0); -- did not solve it.

Are there any plans to expose the setLivewallpaperComponent(ComponentName livewallpaperComponent) via the SDK? Right now, its exposed internally but not via the SDK.
The permissions seem to be the following which are also not exposed via the SDK: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.SET_WALLPAPER_COMPONENT" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.BIND_WALLPAPER" />

I need a LinearLayout to contain 3 TableLayouts, and I can't get it to work. This is where the problem is I'm sure:
mTableLayout.addView(mLinearLayout, LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT); mLinearLayout.addView(nTableLayout, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT); mLinearLayout.addView(oTableLayout, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT); mLinearLayout.addView(pTableLayout, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT);
How Do I make this work? I can get it to work just find when I only add a single child view, but when I have multiple children view objects my app crashes.

My application will have two layouts, one for large screens and one for normal. For testing I'm working with one phone (800x480 240dpi) and one tablet (1024x600 240dpi) but both are detected as large screen hdpi and long aspect ratio, so I'm not able to assign different layouts.
The only approach I think that can work is to create layout-large and layout-normal, get the resolution and programmatically set the layout folder. Is that possible?

I downloaded pictures off the internet and tried to set them as my background, and it says "This picture has been set as wallpaper" But its just the default wallpaper. So then I tried the Bar code scanner wallpapers and Android themes.com and same thing!

I have my incredible set to use the live wallpaper "water". When I turn the phone off to charge at the end of the day, upon restart it defaults to the htc colors wallpaper. Is there something I'm doing wrong, is there a setting I'missed to retain the "water" live wallpaper after restart, or is this just normal behavior?

Are there design guidelines to help decide if an application with multiple views should be designed with multiple activities or just one activity and control the back button itself.
I've tried both. My most complex applications using one activity per screen. However, now that I'm successfully written an app with just one activity and handling the back button myself, I don't see any compelling reason to use multiple activities. The one activity application is much simpler and more straightforward.
What advantages of multiple activities am I missing?

I'm using apex launcher, and I'm trying to match my apex wallpaper to the lockscreen wallpaper. But when I go to the lockscreen wallpaper in settings, it only allows me to choose a few OEM wallpapers. How can I get the apex wallpaper onto the lock screen? This is a minor annoyance, but is there a way I can theme the top of my phone where it tells me the time/cell signal to look like stock ICS? The touchwiz icons are really big and don't look that great, while taking up a lot of space.

I'm working on an application using xml layouts.
I wish to know which is better:
1. Use few activities and change its contentview
2. Use an activity for each 'view' needed
If both works, in which case which option would be better?

I'm planning to develop and app that presents the users with several different screens (of different information).
Was wondering what would be the best way to implement this?
Is it better to have separate XML layouts and an activity to display and allow the user to interact with each screen of data?
OR would handling all of these in the same activity be more efficient (and dynamically load / unload each layout)?

I have been reading through the manual for the Desire and it states that you can have a different lock screen wallpaper to the wallpaper when the screen has been unlocked.
However, I can't seem to manage this at all.
Does anyonw know if this is possible or if it is an error in the HTC manual?
The reason being I would like to have a nice bright lock screen image but a normal black background for when apps and widgets are all over it.

I red in these discussion groups that you cannot programmatically turn on/off the GPS : Mark Murphy was exhaustive, as always. But i found a 3rd party App, in the market, that creates a widget capable of switching the GPS on/off. How did they do it? Are they using a different SDK ?

I was hoping to write a service on Android that would list all applications installed as per previous post. Then, It would decide to update automatically some apps and install others. Is there any class on the SDK that has this kind of functionality? That is, can I call some API or code to install an application on the phone? Can I force some updates as well?

I am trying to improve the layout for my game. The problem is that while I can create a good layout for one android phone, it doesn't work for another, ie the trackball for MyTouch is on the right side (landscape mode), but for the MyCliq, the DPad is on the left side. Is there a way to programmatically set the layout based on which phone it is?
