I'm receiving "SocketTimeoutException: Read Timed Out" errors in my client app when attempting to post image data to a central server over HTTPS. What's odd is that I cannot reproduce the error when posting data from my local machine (via the emulator) to the same server. Increasing the SO_TIMEOUT value seems to only prolong the amount of time it takes for the timeout exception to occur. I am very new to using the Apache HTTP API - what am I missing?

I retrieve a JSON list of contacts from a social network site. It contains firstname, lastname, displayname, data1, data2, etc...
What is the efficient way to quickly lookup my local phone contacts database and "match" them based on their name. Since there are firstname, lastname and displayname this can vary.
What do you think, how can the best match be achieved?
Also how do I make sure I don't parse for each JSON item the whole database I want to avoide having JSON_COUNT x MOBILE COUNT steps
I'm working on Android 2.0 and am trying to receive a list of all contacts.Since android. provider. Contacts. People is deprecated, I have to use android.provider.ContactsContract, But I can't find a proper example of how to use it (ex: retrieve a list of all contacts on the phonebook).

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I bought my G1 the guy in the shop used his own gmail account to demonstrate and forgot to reset the phone. I got home transfered all my contacts into the G1 from my old mobile which then died. I only have my contacts on the G1 now and no other back up copy. My problem is that the shopguy's gmail is still the default account and I need to do a factory reset. I am unable to synch my contacts with my own gmail account. I am unable to download apps from the market as I dont know the shopguy's password. I am therefore unable to back up my contacts before I reset the phone.
I have been looking for ways to back up my contacts to my PC so that I can reset the phone and then export them back and synch them with gmail via the G1. It seems impossible to do using the USB cable? It is also not possible to save the contacts to SIM or the memory card? I have looked into using sites like zyb or vodafone 360 for backing up my contacts online but they dont seem to work with the G1?
I have recently started using the Facebook App on my HTC Desire and have noticed that now all my Facebook Contacts have been synced with all my phone contacts. How do I stop this?
View 2 Replies View Related1. Make sure all of your contacts from your current phone are synced up with Outlook.
2. Goto File
3. Import and Export
4. Select "Export to a file" and Click Next
5. Select "Comma Seperated Values (Windows)" and click Next
6. Select Contacts and click Next
7. Choose a destination for the file to be saved and click next
8. Click Finished
If you have excel or a spreadsheet program, go ahead and open the file. In the last name field make sure that each person either has a last name or has some letter in the field or they will not import correctly. They will just end up showing up with a phone number w/o a name. After doing this, resave the file........
Just picked up my EVO from RadioShack. Now how do I get my contacts from my old phone (Samsung Instinct) over to the EVO? The Instinct has 'Mobile Sync', that was suppose to sync my contacts with Sprint's server. How do I sync my contacts to the EVO?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't understand. In symbian it was possible to add more than one "mobile" number, and even with a custom label. In android i can't do that. I have friends that use 2 or 3 mobiles, for work, personal use etc, that besides the work number from the location.
Is there a workaround or a program i can use? I don't want my contacts staying on the gmail servers.
I guess the question is, how can i modify the labels? there's got to be a way...
If i use the "linked" option, when i view the contact details it just shows me 3 different numbers, it doesn't show me the linked contact's name so i can't now wich number i want to call: work, personal etc.
Custom labels would have been genius. I could add to Andy for example:
1. mobile xxx
2. mobile work xxx
3. boss xxx
And when he would call me from one of this numbers, it would have been nice to look like this:
Andy mobile xxx or Andy mobile work xxx.
After I've received a phone call you can choose to add that number to contacts. All seems to work fine and it shows up for a short time on my phone and it appears to have stuck no problem. After a few minutes through the name has dropped off and it does not show up in either my contacts on the phone or to the contacts in my Google listing online.Am I missing something please? I always choose to save to Google, not SIM or Phone. I assume that's right?

I'd much rather use Sprint's Mobile Sync service, but that may be a ways off yet.
