Passing two int values m =0 & s = 11, to below function String formatted = String.format("%1$02d:%2$02d", m, s); returning the value like .0:11 ,What could be the problem? m=0, s=11 -->.0:11 m=0, s=1 --> .0:.1. The 0 added to format the string always coming as '.' (dot). Can anyone know ,from where the number patterns are getting loaded in Android? I gone thorough the code, Its related the following file, androiddalviklibcoreicusrcmainjavacomibmicu4jniutil Resources.java ->localeData.numberPattern. If I comment out the line with String.format, the garbage collection goes away. So what's the "right" way to do this to avoid allocations? That database field holds an unformatted text string which I'm trying to format into proper currency format (example: format "1.5" to "$1.50")
Currently I have an edittext field that when the user presses enter it does mostly what I want it to, validate an IP Address format and inform the user if it is wrong. How do I make it so when the user presses enter it checks it like it is supposed to be does not enter the newline character?
Here is my code for it.

Another problem I have is that in the false condition of the validation, that it will not bring up the soft keyboard to allow the user to reedit that text field. If the user clicks on another edit text the window gives it focus, and allows the user to edit the second text field while still maintaining the 'green outline' around the original edittext.
The EditText still creates a newline. I tried calling that when I create the EditText and it shows the dialog then inserts a newline character at the beginning which is weird because the
m_etIPAddress.setText(ConfigData.m_IPAddress);
Should automatically overwrite anything in that field to the static IP saved within ConfigData. (my settings class) and I think the focus might work, the problem is that after requestFocus, that EditText shows it has focus but is unresponsive. I can click on other EditText's and modify them, while it still shows the focus outline on the IP EditText. If I click on the IP EditText it doesn't actually do anything. Its kind of strange.
When I define in XML a TextView, how do I add new line to it?

I have the localized strings file that is used in the Iphone app that I work on to port to Android. Are there any tools that go through the file taken from the xcode project and build the xml needed to use the strings in android? This tool should be easy to build but I appreciate any pointers to already working tools.

Sorting by date doesn't work because they're strings (unless I'm doing it wrong.I've googled this issue for ~5 days, and it looks like there should be a way to capture the date from the date picker, convert it to a Long, store it in sqlite as a Long, select and sort on the Long date value, then convert the Long back to a "mm/dd/yyyy" string for display. I have preferences.xml which has the layout for my preferences file, and I would like to reference a single item from the string array to use as the title.
In the Android developer reference, I see how I can reference a single string with XML, but now how I can reference a string from an array resource in XML.
Can anybody give me some clue that how to convert binary string into a string(english). I have tried and googled so much but couldn't find an answer.

A typical packet looks like this..

I have about 20 of these packets and would like to store them in my resources maybe in res/xml or res/raw
I want to store these 'empty' packets and load them using XML DOM and then fill in the content between the tags or attributes but am unsure how to do this.
Once the DOM packet has been filled in I want to get that back as a String so that I can send the packet to the server.
So to summarize my questions are..
(1) How do I load an XML resource using DOM?
(2) How do I convert the DOM object to a String?
I have defined a string array in the resource and access it using:
String arrStrings[] = getResources().getStringArray(R.array.arrayname);
But, how can I get the size of this array?
Maybe I missed something but I can't locate a way to get a String[] array of keys from a ContentValues object?
