Android :: Not Able To Write To SDcard In Live Wallpaper?

Jan 16, 2010

I currently have a live wallpaper that is animated and works. However, I am trying to update the code and add in some lines which will save a file from a webpage and then read it. After reading it, the wallpaper would change its behavior. Anyways, I am having problems just saving the actual file, I know the code works because I have used the same code in previous applications. Are you just not able to write to the SDcard in a live wallpaper?

Android :: Application That Can Read And Write Txt Files To SDCard

May 3, 2010

I have an application that can read and write txt files to the phones sdcard. By using this code for reading files:

@Override protected void onListItemClick(ListView l, View v, int position, long id) { super.onListItemClick(l, v, position, id); mFileNameOpen = files.get(position);
String st = null; mVector.clear();
notepad.mNewEmpty = false; try { File f = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()+"/ notepad/"+mFileNameOpen); FileInputStream fileIS = new FileInputStream(f);
BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(fileIS));
do { st = in.readLine();
mVector.add(st);
}while(st!=null); in.close(); ...
} catch (FileNotFoundException e) { e.printStackTrace();
} catch (IOException e) e.printStackTrace();

and this to write them:
try { File root = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory();
File fileCheck = new File(root, "/notepad/" + fileNameSave + saveExtension);
boolean exists = fileCheck.exists();
if (!exists) { if (root.canWrite()) { File textFile = new File(root, "/notepad/" + fileNameSave + saveExtension);
FileWriter textWriter = new FileWriter(textFile);
BufferedWriter out = new BufferedWriter(textWriter);
out.write(SAVEAS); out.close(); written = true;
} else { written = false; else { written = true; showMaybe = 1; showDialog(DIALOG_SAVE_EXISTS);
catch (IOException e) {Log.v(getString(R.string.app_name), e.getMessage());

This has been working fine on my Tattoo and all the emulators I've tried this on. But it does not seem to be working on moto droid. Is there something different to consider with moto droid? Or have I missed something in the manifest maybe?

General :: Write Only Access To Internal / External SDCard On Kitkat

Jun 2, 2014

I am using a mt6582m device with kitkat 4.4.2 with supersu. I can use root to write to system, data and cache using es file explorer, can also read and write to any sd card, but apps like titanium backup, online android backup, ram expander can't read/write to sd card.

Eg.1: ti backup read backups, can do all operation except backup and restore.
I had read a lot, changing backup path didn't worked nor any odex file is there. Using v6.1.5.6.
Eg. 2: ram expander can create swap file on sd but can read it saying 'not found'. Swap can be used with cache partition.
Eg. 3: online nandroid backup says pat not vaild.

I had tried, sd fix app, manually editing platform.xml, xposed module to 'handel external storage', change permissions using es file explorer, editing ramdisk.

There is storage/sdcard0 and 1
Also mnt/sdcard and mnt/sdcard2 (symlinked)
Also mnt/media_rw/sdcard0 and 1 (not readable even in es file explorer)

When I try to push a 40MB file onto the sdcard adb hangs and the emulator freezes. Is there a file limitation that I am not aware of? I couldn't find anything on this. When I try the same with a smaller file it works without problems. I have configured the sdcard of the emulator device to have a size of 512MB and when I check with adb shell df I see that there is enough space.

HTC EVO 4G :: Will Formatting Sdcard Via Phone Solve Sdcard Mount Read Only Errors

Aug 16, 2010

I replaced my original sdcard with a sandisk 16gb card. Everything went well until I started getting these blasted read on errors. Earlymon suggested a fix from another board but I don't have a stand alone card reader so I couldn't do it that way.

I was wondering if I just backed up all my stuff from my sdcard to my iMac and then just reformatted my sdcard via the phone, would that solve my problems?

Motorola Droid : Font Size And A Spell Checker - Imposiible To Read Small Font Size In Emails Or Text Messages

Dec 26, 2009

This is my first post. I've had a Moto Droid since day one, and I just love it. It is without a doubt better than any phone that I've had over the years, and that includes the iPhone, BB, etc.

However, there are 2 things that I don't understand - Font size and a spell checker. It is imposiible to read the small font size in emails or text messages.

1. Why has there not been an app to either change the font size or be able to zoom in? Picasy has incorporated multi-touch for zooming, so I've to assume that its doable! Why not have the same in an email client.

2. Why is there not an email client out there that allows for spell checking? There are many such apps for the BB! I am a terrible speller.

I am not complaining, I just want to understand the limitations from a developers prospective, as I am sure these isuues will eventually be addressed.

Android :: How To Write A Library To Be Used On Droid?

Sep 22, 2010

I've already written a game engine in java using eclipse and opengl es, I had one project (an android project) which contained both of my packages com.logic.engine com.logic.testapp I wanted a way to keep my engine and test app seperate, I've made an earlier post about how this is done, and I figured out how to reference one project in the build path of another (or just creating a jar file). My problem is that, lets say I now have my engine all wrapped up in an android project com.logic.engine, and now someone would like to use this engine to create a game, so they create an android project com.someclient.game, well now because we have one android project referencing another, it crashes everytime. Now obviously i need the android sdk in my engine package in order to reference things, but its also required on the client app, since the activity is what is actually being run by android. I guess my question is, how can i create a project for my game engine without it being an android project, but still referencing the android sdk, and without causing it to crash the client app using it?

Android :: Can I Download An SQLite Db On / Sdcard And Access It From Droid App

Jun 28, 2009

I already found out that there is no way to bundle files in an .apk and have them on /sdcard, the best option so far being to download the large files upon first run. I came accross a tutorial saying how to bundle an sqlite db with the apk and then copy it so that it can be accessed with SQLiteDatabase (thus doubling the space needed, and not using /sdcard at all).

http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/data/data-storage.html#db says all databases MUST be in /data/data/package_name/databases.

Is that really so? Is there a way to trick the framework into opening a database that is placed on the /sdcard partition? Is there a way to use another SQLite java wrapper/framework to access such databases?

If the answer to the above is 'No', what other options do I have? My data is very well represented in a relational model, but is just too big, plus, I want to be able to update it without the need to reinstall/upgrade the entire app.

Android :: How Do I Make My Image View Fixed Size Regardless Of Size Of Bitmap

Sep 23, 2010

So I'm loading images from a web service, but the size of the images are sometimes smaller or bigger than other images and the visualization looks silly when I put them in a ListView in android. I'd like to fix the size of my ImageView so that it only shows a portion of the image if it's larger than a preset amount. I've tried everything I can think of setting the setMaxWidth/setMaxHeight, setting the scale type to centerCrop, using ClipableDrawable wrapping my BitmapDrawable, setting using Drawable.setBounds(). I've tried setting in the XML and programmatically, but neither worked. I'm very surprised setting max width/height didn't do anything. Below is the XML I'm using ImageView definition in my layout file
