Android :: How To Capture When Time Changes In A TimePicker If Keyboard Is Being Used
Aug 1, 2010
I have a widget which is a TimePicker that retrieves the time saved in a field in a database.
Thing is that when the user changes the time value in the widget, this is not being saved in the database.
So I came across the setOnTimeChangedListener method that works like a charm, if you are only using the plus and minus signs in the widget. It does not capture the change if you are using the keyword.
Here is my code:
CODE:................
I've also tried unsuccessfully:

Continuing with the question referred in the following link: [How can I capture when time changes in a TimePicker if the keyboard is being used?][1]
[1]: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3380761/how-can-i-capture-when-time-changes-in-a-timepicker-if-the-keyboard-is-being-used/"How can I capture when time changes in a TimePicker if the keyboard is being used?"
I could solve the problem but it only works when you use the actual keyboard. If you use the soft keyboard I can't get it to work.
I am programming in 1.6 version of the framework.
PS: The fact that I've search everywhere for the answer and have not been able to find it tells me that this must be so very simple or very much complicated.

I'm developing and Android app using the 1.6 sdk. I'm using a TimePicker and I don't want the soft keyboard to come up when you click on the digits in the TimePicker. I only want the TimePicker to be changed using the plus and minus buttons. I've tried using android:focusable="false" and android:focusableInTouchMode="false" hoping those would do it, but they didn't seem to do anything. Is there a way to do this?

I need to make a video as a DEMO for one application I have developed. I know that there are some experimental applications that use DDMS and achieve a framerate of 5-6 fps. This framerate is completely insufficient for my purposes since the application has smooth animations that i would like to show. Is there anyone that has found a way to do a real time screen capture on android? Should I settle for a capture of the emulator or a real video done with a real camera?

I am new here and I came from Symbian and Linux, for all the phones I've used there are at least one application for screen capture and one for time clock synchronization, both are very useful and basic task we will do with a smartphone, but on the Android I found none that can work without a 'rooted' phone. I don't know how other phones do it, but I know the reason for a 'rooted' phone is to be able to access the framebuffer for screen capture for example and this may be risky, I suppose it is simply a sub-routine call to the BIOS will do without the need for a complete 'open access' system. I know there is a way to capture the screen without a rooted phone, but the phone must be connected to a PC and I feel this is dumb and inconvenient, I may be completely wrong about Android, please fill me in.

I am popping an alert box whenever an user exceeds 100 characters in a text-box(EditTextPreference). Now i am able to capture the hard keyboard's, i.e. computers's keyboard, events, but i am not able to capture the sofkeyboard's key events. There are some keys like numbers, enter, delete etc. in the softkeyboard which i am able to capture using onKey, but i am not able to capture the alphabets and other keys. i also tried setOnKeyboardActionListener, but didnt get the desired results,( may be i was not using it correctly). Can any one suggest how to capture the click of alphabets on the sofkeyboard.

I'm working on the android automatic test, and try to test the alarmclock app in the android. I want to get the TimePicker after the TimePickerDialog pop up, then we can use it to invoke the methods 'setCurrentHour(...)' and 'setCurrentMinute()' to set the alarm time programmatically instead of sending the key event so many times.

Are the widgets used in Datepicker standarized? Meaning, can I employ them in my layout, or do I have to build them on my own? Are there standard versions of them or even, can they be "created" through settings or would I have to build them from scratch using EditText and buttons?

I would like to use a custom skin for my Datepickers and Timepickers. Changing the background in XML doesn't do the trick (it changes the background to the set, not each of its buttons). The API is painfully short and has nothing about appearance ( http://developer.android.com/reference/android/widget/DatePicker.html ). Is it possible to use a custom skin for the buttons of Datepickers and Timepickers?

I'm trying to modified the way TimePicker works as asked in my question here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2580216/android-timepicker-minutes-to-15
To be able to do that I need to know if the + and - button was clicked and to disable the input field.
So can I target the elements in a TimePicker? (i.e the + and - button and the input field)?
Also is there anyway to determine if the + or the - button was clicked?

My Evo takes about 30 seconds to dial a number. i select a contact in my contact list, the contact highlights but does not dial for about 30 seconds. While I was typing this my phone was turned sideways for the big keyboard, I would select a letter, the letter bubble appears but the letter does not show on screen. In vertical mode the keyboard is fine.

Ok, so I have a XML layout with a TimePicker, few buttons and what not and a ScrollView because it's needed.
When I run the app the app doesn't scroll. On top of that the TimePicker doesn't scroll either. Well it does but correctly. It takes 6/7 swipes to move from 6 to 7. When I remove the ScrollView the TimePicker works fine and when I remove the TimePicker the layout can scroll.
Is there a way I can get them both to work in the XML?
My code is pretty basic so I don't think I need to post it but let me know if you want to see it.
I've tried fillViewPort and using nested layouts but nothing works. This effectively makes my app useless.

I am new to the whole rotting thing, I installed the bugless beast on my droid 2 days ago and everything went great and it worked fine, I'm just having an issue with it being really lagy at times and the biggest problem is that it freezes everytime I open or close the keyoard, I have to forse close and wait for it to load everything up again, a message is desplayed and it says:
The application launcher+(process android.process.acore) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Then I hit forse close, it usually only happens when I open or close the keyboard but sometime it will happen at random. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it.

For those of you that are familiar with better keyboard. I was wondering about an easy way to switch from the t9 keyboard to the regular qwerty keyboard. I was under the impression that swiping left would toggle between the 2 but all that does is bring me to the numbers and symbols keyboard. I've been changing back and forth to the android keyboard because its faster than going into the better keyboard settings.

I tried it and it works so far.
Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.
From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers
Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'
Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion
Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.
The app is still in development.

My calls to getFromLocationName() always fail the "first" time I start my app. I catch the IOException which has reason:
Unable to parse response from server
Then I make a second call and it succeeds. Once things are "awake" all future calls to getFromLocationName() succeed, it's just that first one, and there is a ton of latency.
I haven't run this on a device yet, just in the emulator. This seems like a network problem, but it is so reproducible I'm thinking I'm not initializing something properly. I'm using Android SDK 1.1.

at the moment I am thinking about a new app and need some information to decide whether to develop on Android or an alternative OS. I am particularly interested in "time to first screen", "boot-up time", "time to first Audio" and "app-start" (can be any from the android market or even one of the pre-installed ones) time? Does anyone know a source or perhaps measured those numbers?

I want to develop a game, so I need to know elapsed time at lots places in my game. For example, to measuring FPS. I see there is some example use "System.currentTimeMillis" to measure elapsed time. But I see the warning on document: http://developer.android.com/intl/zh-TW/reference/java/lang/System.ht... "This method shouldn't be used for measuring timeouts or other elapsed time measurements, as changing the system time can affect the results." So, if this method should not be used for measuring elapsed time, then what will be suitable?
