I'm a writing a program to add a new way of communication such as MMS/SMS or SIP phone to Android.Is there a way to add an icon in the QuickContactBadge menu, when clicking on a contact photo in the Contacts application ?I wasn't able to fully understand how it works from android sources.Is the list of icons only populated from mime types found in contacts datas ?

How can I populate a menu using intents? I didn't understand that thing.

Update:
Suppose I have an application that need to resize the image,and there are many other applications that have a capability of resizing the image. How can I show the list of applications on a menu in my application so that when clicking on a particular option it will invoke the intent associated with that application. Simply saying I could resize the image in my application with out bothering about how that will get done.
When I run my app, I see about 8 or 9 icons in the main phone menu. One is to run the app, and the others actually run activities within the app.I want there to only be one icon for users.Any ideas as to why this is happening?My code is structured similar to examples from the book "Android - A Programmers Guide" by JF DiMarzio.How do I hide the other icons so users have to start at the main menu screen?

As you can see I don't want to show any text in this menu, just an icon ! But when the menu is showed, there is a "ugly" blank under the icon (the text is supposed to be there) and I want to avoid this. A least if it's possible to center the icon the options menus, it will be great.
if I have an Options menu in Android that has more than 6 items, Android adds a More item that shows the other hidden items, AS text!But I want the More button to display the extra items both in their text AND icon, how do I do that?

I'd like to keep it that way, but the menuitems in the popup that you get when you press 'More' don't have the menuicons. Is there a way that I can overrule this? If not, how can I display my own popup when the user clicks 'More'? I still want that Android figures out how many menuitems fit on the users screen.

Because I get to edit files, but I am looking for a long time without finding how to put ALL the icons on the left, and keep only the icons on the right as in the picture.
I notice that the home screen is customizable but not the four applications on the bottom, the call, email, browser and applications. How would I change those icons with different icons? Mainly the email and browser. How do I turn off or at least severly limit the data that goes to and from my phone. I do not have wireless and am just a bit paranoid about going over my data limit. I got the phone from work and this is my first smartphone so I am a bit nervous about anything I do on it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Options menu up and running in my Android application and I've overridden the onCreateOptionsMenu, onOptionsItemSelected and onPrepareOptionsMenu methods to customize the menu a little. My question is related to keeping the Options menu open after the user clicks on a menu item. Basically, I'd like to be able to hide the menu until the user clicks on the device menu key. Once the user clicks on this key, I'd like to be able to hold the menu in place regardless of how many times the user clicks on menu items. If the user wants to hide the Options menu, they'd just need to click on the device menu key again. Is this type of interaction supported (or even advisable).

Each broadcast Intent is identical except that it contains a Bundle with some result information from the IntentService. Evidently, having different data in the Bundle is not enough for Android to think it's a different Intent. If the IntentService broadcasts two of these Intents back-to-back, the second one is dropped as a duplicate.
I know I've read about this behavior in this forum in the past but I can't find in the documentation where this duplicate elimination logic is described in detail. Mostly, I just want to differentiate the Intents enough that they are not considered duplicates. Any pointers would be appreciated.

I have a auto-complete textbox in which the user makes a selection. From here I want to load a tabbed layout which is based on the user selection. The problem is I cant figure out a clean way to pass that selection to each of the tabs. At the moment I can pass an intent to the 'tabhost' activity and then pass to each child activity explicitly, however this just seems like messy iterative code to me! So basically how can I pass my intent data bundles to the tabs activities cleanly & efficiently! Psuedo code is also very welcome.
