I have a cursor, and it got, lets say, 40 rows, I want to hide some rows when the user check a checkbox.One way is run the query again on the cursor, but it doesn't help me because the condition is done by Java (calculate balance, with many logic).I need something that will get the current row, and return if it can be show or not.any help will be appreciated.

I have a Cursor that returns rows I use with a SimpleCursorAdapter to populate a ListView. I would like to filter some of the rows so they don't get displayed in my ListView. I use the data from the rows elsewhere in my Activity so I don't want to change my SQL to filter them with a WHERE clause. What is the best way to keep a row from being displaying in my ListView? Ideally I would check a column in my row and then only add rows to the ListView that satisfy a condition.

The structure of some of my activities is a simple ListView with a custom CursorAdapter. The cursor is created in onCreate() on the activity from a SQLite database. The problem is that querying the SQLite database can be quite slow at times with lots of data (and let's assume I've already optimized the sql query as much as possible). Because it occurs in onCreate() on the UI thread, I get ugly black screens when opening the activity, which sometimes turn into ANRs, on a slow phone like the G1. I want to load the cursor in a background and show "Loading.." on screen while doing so. I saw AsyncQueryHandler used extensively in the framework, but this seems a solution geared more towards Content Providers and not application-local SQLite databases. I then thought of trying to load the cursor in a background thread, but realize that this might be problematic, as the CursorAdapter should be instantiated in onCreate() and should take a cursor as a parameter. The latest thought I had was to instantiate an empty MatrixCursor in onCreate() and pass that to the cursor adapter, while kicking off a thread/TimerTask to query the database. Then, on database cursor load, call cursorAdapter.change Cursor to the properly filled cursor. This doesn't seem very elegant and seems quite wasteful, however.

I am looking after an alternative way now. As what I ideally want is:
Get order of contacts by a custom order held in my database (this involves joining CR with my DB cursor, and doing an order by, later seams it's not possible with CursorJoiner) but there is more, if the join is not unique I want to sort by contact's name as last measure
Which is impossible using Cursor and Joiners, because of the missing feature of order bys, also I need to return a Cursor, as I will be using the in an ExpandableList
Also this translated to TSQL it would look like

left join category on contactsdata.catid=category.id
order by category.pos asc, contact.display_name asc
So I am looking now after an alternative. I have in mind to load in a temporary DB table all data from CR, then do the query on the temporary table where I can join tables and do order bys? How does this sound to you?
Just picked up my incredible, and I have two questions....
1. how do i change the email notification to a specific sound? As of rite now, when i receive an email nothing happens (no sound or vibrate).

I have had androids for over two years now and am getting more and more concerned every time I download an app and seeing that it wants to READ my SMS message and Contacts.
Is there a way I can disable reading of SMS messages or any one of the other permissions by specific apps, or all apps?
Are we living in a world where any "joe schmo" can upload an app the to the app store and wait for those inadvertent downloads and collect all your personal information, and that's after all the time we spend protecting our identity and personal details?

I could of course create two sets of RadioButtons, and place each in a different RadioGroup view, but presumably then I would have to control the active state of each button by taking into account both views. When pressing one of these buttons it will be disabled and will perform a heavy task in the background (in a different thread to avoid screen blocking). After the action is completed the button will be enabled again and the row updated with some results obtained from that "heavy operation". Im filling my List with a custom SimpleCursorAdapter, its getView method calls super.getView and in the view (row) returned I access its button through findViewById and set my click listener (to disable it, and launch the heavy task in the background). Once this heavy task is finished I need a reference to this row view to find the button and re- enable it. SimpleCursorAdapter´s super.getView() reuses row views shown on screen to avoid creating many different rows instances, so when my "heavy task" is finished the row view reference i need to reenable its button may have been reused in a different row, so in the end I am modifying a button in a different row! I have tried different solutions, for example giving different ID to each row view (useless because it gets overwritten when the row view is reused) Obviously creating a different row instance for each row whether its shown on screen or not isnt the best solution.

I'm trying to develop an application that should not be visible to the user. I mean an app that can't be visible at the Manage Apps screen (Settings - Applications - Manage applications) and also whose services couldn't either be visible at the Running Services screen (Settings - Applications - Running services)I know I'm trying to fight against Android's nature of being open and give control to the user. But I want, somehow, to cheat the system and pretend the app does not run and even does not exist. Is that possible?
