Android :: Editing Or Creating A Custom - Web Page Not Available

Nov 4, 2010

I have created a WebView layout, which is used to access a specific website, however it would be useful to edit or create a custom "Web page not available" resource when a handset doesn't have a network connection or the page times out. I know it's possible because if you open the app "Wikidroid" while a handset is in Airplane mode you receive "Article not available" error page instead of the standard Android "Web page not available" error page.

Click here for screenshots of the default and custom error pages. I have search high and low on the internet and haven't come up with any online resources which address this request.

Android :: Creating Landing Page Similar To Twitter App And Others

Aug 29, 2010

I am wanting to make a reusable 'landing page' activity similar to like the activity when you first launch the official twitter app, facebook, or google io app, etc. Reusable is really the key here I would like for the activity to dynamically populate its gridview with the other activities in the application.

Is it possible to parse through the android manifest file to find my other activities? If so is it also possible to add my own xml attributes to the manifest file to distinguish which activities should show up in the gridview Or, is there some other way to find all existing activity classes in the package? Is there a way in java to look for any Class in a package that implements a particular interface?

General :: Making / Editing Custom ROMs Using Linux

Mar 18, 2013

My ideal place to get to is to eventually provide the community here with custom roms and mods which everyone can enjoy on their devices, just like what all the greats devs do here day in day out.... but before I get there, I'm on a path of discovery. At the minute, I want to take a XDA dev's already pre worked ROM, go in to it and change a few things up.... edit the apps, maybe play with a few apks, change the ringtones etc, and then resign the ROM and flash it to my device.

I've been reading some great tutorials such as [URL] ..... which I am finding very useful, however....

They seem to be geared towards someone working on a windows machine. I dont want to do it in Windows, I want to do it in Linux... I dont wish to use "CygWin" and I would rather do it manually than use a kitchen - I could easily follow these guides in Windows and achieve my stated aim of a slightly modified custom ROM, however, the overall goal here is to acquire knowledge, and enjoy the process as it goes along.

Now, my current understanding under Linux (Mint 13) is that I can download a recovery flashable Zip, go in to it, and just change up some of the files as I desire.... but then I get confused when it comes to repackaging the ROM prior to flashing it to my device. How would I go about doing this?

Android :: Creating Custom Widgets / Defining Properties In XML For Them

Jul 29, 2009

I would like to create a widget that can reads its attributes from an XML file onCreate. I've created a Custom Button that extends Button widget. I would like to define its layout and styling in an XML, such that the widget can be reused across different views, with the same styling attributes. The notepad sample code does carry some pointers to this problem, however, it defines a XML layout with the component as View, inside LinearLayout, which is not really what I'm trying to achieve here.

Android :: Creating A Custom Image Based Layout?

Sep 26, 2010

Is it possible to create a layout based on (background) images? For example, there is well know app called Appie that uses this picture as a homescreen:

I might be able to recreate the layout with a TableLayout, but this will be difficult to get it perfectly aligned with the buttons in the image. The default layout options make it very difficult, or maybe impossible, to allow for selection of the buttons on the image (especially when the buttons are in an arc-path). Can anyone tell me how this is done?

It will primarily be an extended EditText which should show the microphone button for voice recognition if it is available. I wanted to to look at the search app-widget on the homescreen but I don't find it in the source. This is intended to use the voice recognition as some sort of dictation device, i.e. the user does not have to type but use his voice instead. So could anyone please point me in some direction?

Creating Custom Layout - Black Screen Displayed?

Jul 14, 2012

I am using:

Android 4.0.3
OpenCV 2.4.2

The face-detection example (from the opencv 2.4.2) is working perfectly. But now, I would like to create a custom layout and actually work with just the data extracted from face detection and build a game on it. Not necessarily having the FdView surface taking the entire screen.

I have done these modifications below, but just a black screen is displayed. Nothing appears on the screen.

Changed the BaseLoaderCallback in FdActivity.java

Code:
//EXPERIMENT

FdView surface = (FdView) (findViewById(R.id.FdView));[code]....

Samsung Behold 2 :: Creating Custom ROMs / Backups For Odin

Mar 18, 2010

Here is a brief much more complete guide to creating your own Odin images for distributing custom ROMs or making backups. Thanks to kam197, BH_MAN, chadmd23, SoulCreator, and all the other community members.

Requirements:
A Samsung Behold 2 to backup/edit/test ROMs on
Root via try3/asroot2, persistent su, or modified kernel
Working ADB connection
SD Card with ~300MB free
Cygwin - if you are working in Windows
Basic knowledge of a command line

Making the ROM Dump: The Behold 2 has 14 partitions in its flash memory, but only a few of these are useful to modify. You will want to focus on different partitions depending on what you want to do. After you make a ROM dump you will need to package it using the instructions in the following section before you can flash it. Backup your personal data? You may want to backup your data while trying out a different ROM. It is simple to do. Start an ADB shell session and obtain root access. Run the following command to dump the UserData partition: Code:

When I try to display a webpage on our intranet it reverts back to the homepage or previous page after about 3 hours. I need it to display constantly. I read somewhere that it was a Download Manager issue and disabling it would work but I can't find where to disable it. Also it was stated that Flash was an issue but i tried uninstalling it and it just reinstalled itself and the problem kept occurring. I just want to display a page in a browser and for it to stay on the screen (full screen) until I manually navigate away from it. I plan to leave it on for weeks at a time.
