I meant objective-c, not c#. Some reason I got it into my head it was c# the iphone used. So the answers for c# were great, thanks, but theyre a bit irrelevant, sorry about that.
I've had a look but can't find anything that answers this, though a few have shortened the question by answering parts of it. Between a small group, we were planning on doing some work on iPhone and Android, the 2 seperate for the most part but helping each other out, and with some guys doing graphics work split between them.
But we were thinking about the possibilities of moving things between the two, not necessarily apps, maybe just useful classes or something. Looking at objective-c and Java, they seem to have about the same features that the biggest obstacle would be system interface stuff, so we were wondering whether, if we created an abstraction over these on each system so they could be given the same input (which unless I'm wrong wouldn't put too much strain on the system?), would there be any problems in writing something to convert between objective-c and Java, worse than the locations of methods in the sdks? Or are there key features or something in one language that the other doesn't have which we've missed that would mean the only way to do it would be rewriting from scratch.
I am trying to get one line with three buttons on it. One far left one in the center and one far right. Ideally I would like the center button to take up all the space between the two side ones. Right now the center(menu) button just overlaps the left side(prev) button.
Here is what I have now:

I am running out of room on my application for buttons, so I want to stick them into some sort of sliding container, like the one at the top of the Astro File Manager application. How do I go about doing this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an application of list view.Each row in listview contain textview. But I want to add a button on top of the list view.how I can add button on top of that listview using Java?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have set up a Button that will link to Google Checkout, however, I need to POST a whole lot of required data (not GET) so I can't use the usual Intent method.

How do I post data to a URL by pressing a button and then load the result into a web browser? In this case it will be the Google Checkout webpage.
I'm beginning to study Android and have a doubt. How do I open a new layout and code (xml and java) by clicking a button on the main scene?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an xml page with 3 buttons on all leading to similar xml files. However, the second and third buttons only respond if the first has been pressed (and then you go back a page and press another). If I reverse the order of the buttons in the java file, which ever button is listed first is the one that has to be used befor the others.
Here is my java for the buttons:
package converter.units.kitchen;
import android.app.Activity;
import android.content.Intent;
[Code]....
the rest of the app has no errors and functions correctly.
I want to disable the button press on a 2nd click, so I have this code for the action handler of the button in my android code :
CODE:..............
However, button.setPressed(false); doesnt work as expected.
Regarding the hardware buttons on HTC Legend - how are you finding the quality of these to be?
I'm somewhat concerned about my power button especially as I've had the phone for about 2 weeks now and already it's almost pushed down to the level of the phone. Granted that I probably press it no less than 30 times a day to unlock the phone but still...
I also read somewhere that there might be another option to unlock the phone instead of pushing the power button, anyone know what this might be? (If it isn't a myth that is.) Noting the wide range of apps out there, I wonder if it might be possible to change the hardware button for locking, and maybe put it to another button (or to enable some type of rotation between buttons). Any other tips would be great!
My home button too is feeling a bit slack... Can anyone comment on this and how their button feels?
On the bright side, the volume rocker is perfect.
I just got my white Evo and the menu button light is different than the home, back and search buttons. Is everyone's elses like this? I wonder if this is intentional but I can't see why it would be.
View 11 Replies View RelatedWhen I press and hold the quick search button on my desire, I was given the option to chose what app i want mapped to this key (I chose quick settings - very handy)....however when I press and hold the menu button anywhere I get a keyboard popping up which is frankly useless as when I need a keyboard there is always and easy way to bring it up. Is there any way to map other apps to other buttons such as the menu button or even the optical track button?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a thread in java/Android like this:
CODE:................
The thread works fine when I run my application. But I want to start/restart the thread with a button.
CODE:.........
If I copy the thread into the button I just make a new thread every time the user clicks on the button. I want to run the thread when the user first time click on the button, "kill it" and start from the beginning if the user click on the button a second time.
I've been a couple of days trying to solve this thing but I can'f figure it out.The problem is, simple activity, with simple layout, ScrollView -> LinearLayout -> and a lot of buttons inside the layout (within the scroll content). Everything works just fine but one tricky thing. When I click a button let's say at the top of the scroll content and inmediatelly I scroll down to the bottom of the content and I click other button there, nothing happens until I click a second time and all come to normal again.This can be reproduced anytime and it's code independent (i've tried more than 20 scenarios). I've not much experience in android yet but looks like the scroll listener stops the onclick listener or something like that.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi focus my eyes on /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/, however, i can just turn off the backlight.
i found that the trigger in it can do complex work, so i tested it, and found some codes below
Code:
[none] rfkill0 mmc0 mmc1 mmc2 timer heartbeat sleep rfkill1 rfkill2 max8903a-usb-online max8903a-ac-online battery-charging-or-full battery-charging battery-full battery-charging-blink-full-solid
however, i haven't found the one i want.
Has anyone worked out if it is possible to set one of the buttons on the bottom of the Desire to bring up the lock screen rather than using the power button at the top. Only just got the phone 3 days ago but this is (sor far) the only niggle I have.

I am not able to find out the perfect layout(viewgroup) to place four buttons as shown in the attached image. Basically, i want to place four buttons near the top/left/bottom/right edge of the screen. AbsoluteLayout helped, but it is deprecated (It is also better to avoid AbsoluteLayout as it is not very flexible for orientation changes)
View 2 Replies View RelatedBasically, I am looking at two phones right now. The Nexus One and the HTC Incredible and I like both, the question I have is that is there a difference in the ability to root/rom these phones? I saw a few posts of people saying the Incredible would have a locked /system folder that would not allow the sort of modding freedom the Nexus One would provide. Is this true or would the phones be equally moddable (so I could remove Sense UI and play around with Cyanogen and other goodies)?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI find that the UI "Enable GPS satellites" is used to enable receiving GPS data, but not to start GPS. Which UI is used to start GPS? I am not clearly understand why android to designed GPS so. If GPS is not started, then you can't use "Enable GPS satellites" to receive any data and it is useless. I think that if the UI "Enable GPS satellites" is used to start GPS and also run the GPS thread is better? What is the trigger to start GPS?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a basic guide to the main differences between versions of the Android OS?I am using a 1.6 Magic, am buying a 1.5 T-Mobile Pulse for my son and looking at a 1.6 Hero for myself early next year. I wanted to see what the differences were between 1.5 -> 1.6 -> 2.0.I assume that I have to wait for network operators to provide updated operating systems? Can the Pulse be upgraded at all? Is the Hero getting/got version 2.0?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe Eclipse build for my 1.6 application project is succeeding and the Ant build is failing. I'm looking for help on why they aren't behaving the same way.
We are developing on Mac OSX 10.5.8 with Eclipse 3.5 against SDK 1.6 + Google APIs. There are no setting changes in Eclipse, either at workspace or project level. Similarly, our ant is also a vanilla-flavored unmodified installation of 1.7.1. JDK is 1.5.0_22. The CLASSPATH environment variable is not set. JAVA_HOME is /Library/Java/Home
The application was initially created by a team member using the Eclipse plugins. The application references two jar files, one of which has a dependency on javax.xml.bind.annotation.XmlSeeAlso, which is not defined anywhere in our code or in android.jar. The other jar file has an explicit dependency on android.jar. I generated the Ant build file using android update.
The Eclipse project builds an apk and runs the application in the emulator. I think this is incorrect behavior.
The Android ant project fails to build. I think this is correct behavior. MyClass.java:98: cannot access javax.xml.bind.annotation.XmlSeeAlso [javac] file javax/xml/bind/annotation/XmlSeeAlso.class not found
Why the two build methods are behaving differently? I would expect them both to fail.
I was searching the internet but could not find a site comparing the two. I'm interested in developing for the android platform. G1 seems to be just the same as ADP1, but is there any small changes that will be noticeable in development?How about 3rd party software? What T-Mobile software exists in G1 which is not part of the ADP1 bundle and vice versa?Can I swap the original ADP1 firmware with T-Mobile branded one? As I understand people can already hack the G1 to run ADP1's non-branded firmware.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWondering what the differences between REST and JSON APIs are, how you interface with them, and how to go about parsing the results. My goal is to build a small application for my android phone to tell me when the next train will get to the subway station by my house, using the developer API provided by the transit agency.
I'm learning C++ in university, but hope to go about this in Java. I'm sorry if this is more of a discussion question rather than a black and white answer question, but I can't find any information elsewhere.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have touched on this question here, where Christopher gave an answer to this, but I dont really get it so I thought its time to make it a real question, not just a "follow up" =)
As it stands, the application Im writing has 4 different screens:
1. Screen 1 - list of nodes (main screen)
2. Screen 2 - options menu, tableLayout with buttons
3. Screen 3 - navigation
4. Screen 4 - text details on version etc
These screens can be navigated to/from using a "header" View that is placed on top. the header then has 4 different buttons:
+--------------------+
menu with buttons
+--------------------+

C O N T E N T

+--------------------+
The header is just an XML-file (header.xml) with a few buttons. That header.xml is the included in the Layouts using the include-markup. For example, the main.xml has the line:
<include layout="@layout/header"></include>
The header show up alright, but the question is - what is the correct approach to attach OnClickListeners for the buttons in the header?
Christopher pointed out that you could create an Activity class and do the hooks there, like this:
CODE:............
First, I cant make it work since the method setupHeaderButtons isnt accessible from FirstActivity.
Secondly, is this the right way to go at it?
Java packages like Java.io, Java.Lang etc used in android, are they different from Java packages in windows ? means specially made for android ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having some problems porting a Java application to work in Android platform. I detected an incompatibility problem between java sun and Adroid sdk in java.lang.Class. I oberved that: public Field[] getFields() Returns an array containing Field objects describing all fields which are defined. That's array is sorted as attributes are declared in the main Class in sun jdk. For example, next Class is defined as: public class Example { public boolean stop; public int atr1; public String name; ....
}
Does anyone know if the Nexus One that Google is sending developers as part of the Device Seeding Program is different from the ones people get when they order them from Google's website?
Different packaging? Different firmware? Different pattern on the case?
