Android :: Debugging ADT Eclipse Plugin Install

I've installed the Android SDK and the ADT plugin, but Android doesn't show up in the Window>Preferences dialog.I'm running Galileo. If I go to the Installation Details part of the About Eclipse dialog, it says that I have 0.9.6 of Android DDMS and Android Development Tools. I can run adb from the command line. I tried going around the uninstall/reinstall loop once.I'm on Windows Vista. I also have 2.7.7 of the Scala plugin installed, but I tried uninstalling that.

I am trying to install the ADT plugin to eclipse SDK (Version: 3.5.1 Build id: M20090917-0800) but is giving the below error: I have tried the links
"https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/" and "http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/". Also tried manually downloading the plug-in (ADT-0.9.4.zip) and installing, but all of them give the same error(below).

I downloaded every package of eclipse and tried to install android plugin (ADT Plugin). Always it install successfully but failed to create android projects as the plugin doesn't enable in my system.
My System Configuration
OS : Windows 7 64 bit
Processor : intel Core i7 2.80 GHZ
Ram : 6GB DDR 3
HDD : 500 GB

I have a problem installing the ADT plugin in Fedora's version of Eclipse. I'm not sure it is a problem with the plugin, it's probably more Fedora's team fault (they heavily personalized and modified eclipse in Fedora's repository).
I installed the version of Eclipse that is included in Fedora's official repos, which is based on version 3.4.2 build 20090211-1700. I've followed the step-by-step instruction provided in Android's website. The problem arises when I go into the Help -> Software updates window. When I select the two plugins to install, it lets me install the DDMS, but not the Developer Tools. If i try (select Developer Tools then click Install) it gives me the following error message (after calculating space and dependencies):

At first, I thought I had not installed some packages (org.eclipse.equinox.p2.iu and/or org.eclipse.wst.sse.core), so I opened YumEX and searched for those pacckages... but they are not available in Fedora's repositories.

When I try to install the Android plugin for Eclipse on MacOS X (Leopard) I get the error:
Cannot create tempfile for site.xml
Permission denied
I'm not sure what persmissions the system is referring to. I have set this up on a Linux distro with no trouble at all.

I'm having a lot of difficulty installing the ADT plug in under Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo)... I have tried both http and https access to the Eclipse update site, and in both cases I get the following errors:
An error occurred while collecting items to be installed: No repository found containing: binary,org.eclipse.jdt_root, 3.5.1.r351_v20090810-0600-7r88FEoFI0WTo6Az-1qFRHm37ChJ (second line repeated about 20x for various missing files)
I found a post (http://tinyurl.com/yc2cr28) where removing/re-adding the source URL in Eclipse is also recommended. This didn't help the "No repository found" errors.
Has anyone else experienced/resolved this issue? I am running the "Eclipse for Java Developers" from Eclipse.org, and the Sun Java 5 JDK.

I'm trying to develop plugin for eclipse that should draw my custom view inflated from XML. Everything works fine until eclipse tries to instantiate any class from android.jar library. It fails with Runtime exception without any other helpful information (stub!).

I am using a laptop with Windows 7 Home Prem x64. I have installed Java JDK1.6.0_18 and Eclipse Gallileo. I have downloaded and installed the latest version of Android SDK with several Platforms loaded and a AVD defined. I can install the Android Eclipse plugin from the remote site stated in the instructions. The plugin installation performs without any errors and I can verify that the plugins are indeed installed. My problem begins when I go to Windows -> Preferences, there is no Android section to configure. And when I go to File -> New -> Project, there is no Android Project to choose. I have uninstalled the plugin and reinstalled at least 10 times, trying different things and still no luck. I originally had the 64 bit version of the JDK installed, but removed it and installed the 32 bit version. Is it because I am using Windows 7?

0.9 ADT plugin was successfully installed. The Android plugin doesn't present in Window -> Preferences options. So I can't perform step "Update your Eclipse SDK Preferences". Using fully updated Eclipse Ganymede 3.4.2

I've turned on USB debugging.I have the latest HTC Sync and android SDK components.I'm using Eclipse 3.5 on windows XP. I'm running Android 2.2, and am asking for 2.1 as the minimum in the debugger.I work in Eclipse/Java just about every day, and have for several years.I'm even writing an Eclipse plugin at work as I type this neither Eclipse nor Java are new to me by quite a stretch.When I start a debug session for the "Skeleton App" sample project, I can see my Evo, and the activity launches (with any freshly saved changes), should I select it.I have tried different android connection types (charge only, disk drive, HTC Sync, and USB tethering) to no avail. I've tried Eclipse 3.6 for a bit before yielding to the inevitable and reinstalling 3.5. I monkeyed with the emulator for a while but ran into a different set of issues (I had to reboot the emulator every time I wanted to make a change... Eclipse's auto-build/hot-swap has me spoiled).Is there something I can add to (or remove from) the AndroidManifest.XML to deal with this? A magical incantation perhaps? Must I pray towards San Jose three times a day on a rug woven from kernel gurus' vast and scruffy beards? Is my Evo not Kosher? Must I be "sky clad" while debugging? Shall I teach my laptop to genuflect?

When I run my app on my phone from eclipse, it always runs in debug. This has only recently started to happen. I guess I must have inadvertently changed a preference or something, but can't work out what. Does anyone know how I can switch it back so I can run without debugging?

My eclipse galileo was working fine till morning; when i checked for updates for it and also updated the ADT then it asked to restart eclipse. Now i cant see any kind of Android options/menu in eclipse. But i can see ADT in installed software. Even if i open my old projects in the workspace, eclipse is unable to recognize any of the Android classes.

Can someone confirm or let me know if it's a problem with my setup where the 0.9 eclipse plugin will complain about not finding the SDK even if the workspace has no Android projects in it? I work on a few projects and many of them don't have Android apps involved, so it's a little annoying to get the popup on every single workspace.

I'm not sure what's going on, but I tried to post this before, and it didn't show up. If this is somehow a duplicate, I apologize.
Has the ADT repository been deleted or moved? I've tried entering the URL in Eclipse and it can't find it, and I tried just browsing to the page, and I get a 404 from google. I've tried both https and http with no success. Any help would be greatly appreciated! What should have been a 1 hour (max) activity (setting up Eclipse and the Android SDK on a new machine) is now dominating my day.

We just updated the ADT Eclipse plugin to 0.9.1.
The new plugin provides the following changes: - Added an AVD creation wizard to ADT. It is automatically displayed during a launch if no compatible AVDs are found. - Fixed issue with libs/ folder where files with no extension would prevent the build from finishing. - Improved error handling during the final steps of the build to mark the project if an unexpected error prevent the build from finishing. - Fixed issue when launching ADT on a clean install would trigger "org.eclipse.swt.SWTError: Not implemented [multiple displays]." - Improved error handling when parsing manifest when the <uses-sdk> node is present with no (valid) minSdkVersion attribute (error shown would say "null")
To update from Eclipse, simply use Help > Software Update as usual or visit the download page at http://developer.android.com/sdk/adt_download.html

I have just updated my ADT plugin in Eclipse Ganymede to latest version of Android SDK. But, after having downloaded the updates, applied changes, restarted Eclipse, the Android SDK no longer loads. The Android project option in New Project disappeared. It is the second time that happens to me. Every time that I update the ADT plugin, it no longer loads in Eclipse.
I also noticed the same issue after having tried to also install the plugin for Blackberry development. After the install, all Android related features disappear. When I try to reinstall the Android DDMS and Android development tools again, it says it is already installed.
Is there an easy way to resolve the issue without having to reinstall everything again from scratch?
I run Windows Vista Ultimate, Eclipse Ganymede.

I have got some problem trying to install ADT plugin for eclipse.I have download Android SDK, added the path to system variable $PATH

In eclipse I have did exactly like in "Downloading the ADT Plugin" section "Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo)" , and it was finish succesfully, no error then, in "Configuring the ADT Plugin" section, I cant found "Android" from the left panel in Window > Preferences.

I've obviously been spoiled by Visual Studio, because although I'm just learning Android and the Eclipse environment, debugging apps in Eclipse is becoming a serious detriment to further development.And then, when it executes it under the debugger, I will get a full screen of useless debug info, non of which actually points me to the specific line containing the error.The stackTrace is null within the exception ('e') info tree, and it simply states a message stating 'ArithmeticException'. (that's nice, how about you point me in the direction of where you found it!?)I've looked all over the screen and am baffled that this IDE can't get this right. Does developing with Eclipse resort everyone back to 1991 with printf() like logging at every interval then to track down bugs? Seriously.Is there a configuration or plug-in that I'm missing to help with this?I haven't tested this case with XCode, but if the iPhone dev. IDE handles this more like Visual Studio, then no wonder the Android marketplace has so few apps.

I've read the lame documentation, and checked other answers.I'd like my Android app to print some debug statements in the logcat window of Eclispe. If I use the isLoggable method on the various types of debug levels on the Log class, I find that WARN and INFO are returning true and Log.i do not produce any output.Does anyone know which gotchas I've missed?And just to vent, why should this be hard? I've published apps for iphone and bberry and while appreciate the use of java, the platform is reeking of too many "genuiuses" being involved. I suppose Activities and Intents are very flexible, but why? I just want to put up some screens, take some input and show some results. The bberry pushscreen and popscreen is a lot less pretentious.

I am just starting to learn Android development using the Android SDK and Eclipse. I can get my HelloWorld starting app to run in the device emulator, but not on my Verizon Droid handset. I have downloaded the drivers for Windows 7 and I can see the files on the handset in Windows Explorer, so I'm assuming I have the drivers working. I have enabled the USB Debugging on the handset.The problem is that when I set the Debug mode to Manual in Eclipse, I do not see my device in the "Choose device" list.What am I missing?

I am trying to debug android source code with ecliplse. And I can see that eclipse has connect to emulator via ddms. And I can see the log coming out from eclipse, but when I select an process in DDMS, and trying to debug the process, process can't stop on the breakpoint I have set.I think there might be some thing incorrect somewhere. Can anybody give some advice?

I've many times debugged my Java EE code running on Tomcat and JBoss quite effectivley with Eclipse, but I'm running into a brick wall debugging an Android app on the Droid. I think I have to debug on the device and not the AVM because the app interacts with MapView, GPS, etc. Maybe I need to use the AVM to effectively debug?What happens is I get NullPointerException or ArrayOutOfBoundsException in the main thread at something like ViewRoot.draw(boolean) line: 1373. Of course, by default, the source won't be found. So I downloaded the source with Git and pointed Eclipse at it. However, I think I don't have the right source, because the line is that the exception appears to have been thrown from is not completely relevant. How can I be sure I'm using the correct source code for debugging the Droid? After writing this, I've found that although Eclipse is not displaying the little green dot when I set a breakpoint in the Andorid code, it does show up in the breakpoint view and I can step through the code. Not sure if this helps me. Is it perhaps my ignorance of Dalvik and/or debugging threaded code?

I just installed the latest version of Eclipse IDE for Java Developers together with the ADT plugin on my Mac (2.8 GHz, 4 GB Ram).
- Opening new files from the package explorer.
For example, opening a layout xml file takes 1-2sec- And the mouse pointer changes.
- Switching between tabs
- Resizing views in the workspace
The performance rapidly decreases when I open more files. Are all of you developing under these circumstances? How can I speed up eclipse?
