Android :: Database Randomly Deletes Itself So Often

Jun 28, 2010

I have a normal SQLite database in my app, managed through my own ContentProvider and implemented via SQLiteOpenHelper. On the Droid only, every few weeks or so, the database just disappears. I have several users who wrote me about that, and I've seen it myself too now. I added some debug info (hard to repro when you only see it every few weeks), and in one instance, it just happened inbetween widget updates - first, the widget is displayed and shows the data just fine, the next time, the SQLiteOpenHelper's onCreate is called.

The app itself does some multi-threaded shenanigans, but all ContentProvider implementations have the synchronized keyword, all access to the database is via the content provider and in the instance described above, there is no multi-threading going on (the app itself hadn't been running, just the widget). And again, this is only on the Droid. I've never seen it on the G1. I never close the database, but it being a content provider, it sounds like I'm not supposed to do that in the first place (I remember hackbod saying that the idea is that the OS will close the app's process when necessary, which will automatically close the database).

Android :: Cannot Find A Function That Deletes / Drops A Database

Android : Opening Phone Deletes App State

Jun 10, 2010

I'm writing an android application that maintains a lot of "state" data...some of it I can save in the form of onSaveInstanceState but some of it is just to complex to save in memory.

My problem is that sliding the phone open destroys/recreates the app, and I lose all my application state in the process. The same thing happens with the "back" button, but I overloaded that function on my way. Is there any way to overload the phone opening to prevent it from happening?

Android : Way To Save Data On SD Card Always Deletes On Re-install?

Jul 30, 2010

I am using the getExternalFilesDir(null) method to save to the SD card. Saving and reading from the SD card is fine. The problem I am having is that every time I edit anything in Eclipse and rerun the app the data on the SD card is deleted. I know that saving to the directory returned by getExternalFilesDir(null) will allow the files there to be deleted when my app is uninstalled but is there a way to turn it off for just app updating? Is this only cause I am doing it from Eclipse and it won't delete the data when the app is updated from the market?

Android :: Updating Our Applicatoin On The Market Deletes The Saved SharedPreferences

Mar 9, 2009

We have an online multiplayer game that saves some login information in the SharedPreferences. Our app is copy protected and everything was going really well until this weekend when we released an update for it. It seems that at least some of the people are having their SharedPreferences deleted when they updated too the new app. As you can imagine our users are furious because they're all loosing their profiles, and our ranking is dropping fast.

We've tried to reproduce this a hundreds ways but are unable. We're wondering if this could be related to installing a copy protected app over a copy protected app? Since that's the only situation we haven't tested and can't test.

HTC Hero :: Too Many Contacts Deletes

Dec 2, 2009

So when I got my Hero I had my contacts transferred to my phone at Sprint. Then when I signed into my gmail on my phone it added all my contacts again, giving me two of each contact.I tried to delete them and I did too many at one time. Now in my notification bar, every few minutes a message pops up and tells me "too many contacts deleted, what do you want to do? 1. Delete the items, 2. Undo the deletes, or 3. Do nothing for now. No matter what I do, nothing happens and the message comes up again 10 minutes later. Also, When I plug my phone into my computer with the cord provided, the USB connect symbol does not come up. I want to get music, pictures and files on and off of my phone. Any thoughts?

HTC Incredible :: Deletes My Songs When Formatting SD Card

I've tried re-adding the songs twice now and every time it deletes a BUNCH of the songs. The only place I've noticed this was with Cascada. I'm putting the files on my SD card in MP3 > Cascada in their separate album folders. It keeps the folders and AlbumArt.jpg files but deletes the songs! Why is it doing this?

HTC Droid Eris :: Too Many Contacts Deletes In Notification Bar?

Jan 23, 2010

So I just got my Droid Eris and sync with my gmail account. But now there is this constant message in my Notifications bar saying "Too many contacts deletes" and my only options are to:

Delete Items
Undo the Deletes
Do nothing for now

No matter which option I choose, the message comes back into my notifications.

I think what's happening is every time I send/receive and email, Gmail automatically saves the address to my contacts. Then it sends this new email address to the Contact list on my phone. And of course I delete it off my Contact list in my phone because I don't need it.

Verizon sales guy said I have to go into my gmail account setting and change it so that it stops saving every sent/received email address. I can't find this in my gmail settings and Google Help isn't helping

How do I get rid of this notification once and for all! Is there any way I can stop automatically saving EVERY SINGLE email address I send/receive to my PHONE? How do I keep these two Contact lists separate?

HTC Incredible :: Deletes Random Contacts When Logoff Skype

Jun 18, 2010

When I logoff Skype it deletes a random contact in my contact data. Does not happen every time but it happens enough to be a real pain. I have been monitoring this for about 3 weeks now. This is the only time I lose contacts. I always go to People - Menu - View before I logoff Skype to see how many contacts I have. It is so frustrating to see the number drop after I logoff Skype. Does anyone else have this problem? I feel it has to be a bug in the Skype application. I do see in Manage applications - Skype Mobile - Permissions that the application can read and write contact data. This supports what I am seeing. How do I go about getting this problem resolved?

Motorola Droid :: Verizon Deletes Hotspot Feature

Aug 3, 2010

Verizon Wireless promised to deliver the Android 2.2 Froyo update to the Motorola Droid starting "this week." The update hasn't started rolling out yet, but InformationWeek has already learned some disappointing news about it.According to Verizon Wireless, two of the biggest features being introduced by Android 2.2 Froyo won't be included in the Droid update: tethering and Wi-Fi hotspot creation. It is possible that Verizon Wireless is purposely leaving these features out of the Droid to entice customers to buy the Droid X (which offers hotspot creation) or the unannounced but imminent Droid 2.

Android :: Droid Randomly Resetting

Dec 7, 2009

Got my first Droid last Wed. and put a few apps on it and the phone would reset itself. It did this while on a call, texting, using the browser and even when not in use and it was just sitting next to me. I took it back to Verizon and they gave me a second Droid. The new one does the same thing. I deleted all my apps and did a hard reset and it still does it. Took it back to Verizon, but couldn't get it to reset while I was there. Of course after I got home it did it several more times. I even woke up during the night and saw the phone coming back on from a random reset. Anyone else have the same problem? Anyone know what might be causeing this or how to fix it?

Android :: Service Restarts Randomly

Oct 8, 2010

I'm trying to write a Service which sits and waits for SMS messages (using a BroadcastReceiver which the server registers) and will take some action depending on the details of the SMS message. I use an Activity to startService() and stopService() for the Service. After I close the Activity, the Service continues to sit there with its state kept and its BroadcastReceiver waiting, as it should... However, I find that over time, randomly, the Service will restart itself. That is, onCreate() and onStartCommand() will be called even when the Service has already been started. This happens sometimes when my phone sits idle overnight...
