I need to create an Application that can lock the handset at some specific Event. either i want to make use of Require Pattern programatically.
or create a lock application, just like windows mobile in which there are digits to be entered instead of a Pattern.
please guide me to the path if creating this application is possible.

I'm trying to lock the phone through my application .I'm using following code PowerManager pm = (PowerManager)context.getSystemService(Context.POWER_SERVICE); pm.goToSleep(160000); I've added following permission to AndroiManifest.xml file <uses-permission android:name=" android. permission.DEVICE_POWER"/> But the application crashes by throwing following exception *E/AndroidRuntime( 436): Caused by: java.lang.SecurityException: Neither user 10032 nor current process has android.permission.DEVICE_POWER.* to avoid the above mentioned exception or tell me some other way to lock the screen

(preferably works with GPS AND cell tower location, because I don't have GPS on most of the time.) It would be nice to be able to remotely lock it as well... looks like there are some options available but I'm not sure which one works. The thing with the app store is that you can't sort by reviews, its hard to tell which app is good and which one doesn't work

I know I can change the security settings in Froyo to where it locks when the display is off, meaning I could use the power button on my Droid X, but I don't want it to lock every time the screen dims. In other words I want:
a) phone locks on a timed basis (say, 10, 15, 20 minutes of inactivity)
b) phone locks when I tell it to via app/widget
I tried searching for such an app/widget but most of what I found was just enhancements for the lock screen or replacements that didn't address this problem.
I am writing a application and it should be protected with a password. Instead of building a new one, Is it possible to use the Android's Pattern lock screen from application with different patterns?

I am trying to create a sample application to explore Google maps through android.
When I try to run the application I only get the blank grid. no map is displayed.
If i see the DDMS logcat i get erros "Couldn't get connection factory client".

I know that you can create folders on the home screens, but this isn't what I want to do. What I mean is that I need a phone lock for security reasons - however it is a pain to use it every time I turn the screen on. Is there a way to have it work only when you turn the phone on? Right now if yu don't have a phone/screen lock security set if someone steals your phone they take out the sim card and use the phone normally ... if you do have it, then you must use the password every time you want to use the phone (I hate it). I know the best thing is to have a secured access but I was just wandering if it was possible to do seomething different?

The past several days, it started losing GPS signal lock, and today can't get a lock after half an hour with clear sky above. I have "GPS Status" app, and it shows that it is receiving signal from between 5 and 8 satellites, but none of them show as locked. Any ideas? I have already rebooted the phone, removed battery, etc. multiple times. I have turned off wifi and bluetooth with no effect.

I want to be able to reference this file from my webview HTML file. The webview is showing local html files stored in the assets folder. What is the file directory I should use to reference this the .js file in the .html file?

There was an old, dead thread on this in the App forum, with no replys, so I am asking here. I really don't like the little button on the Droid as a "lock" Now that I have added a skin to the phone, that button is even worse. Does anyone know of an App that would put a "Lock" icon/widget on my home screen? As an added bonus, if it had some kind of "shake to wake" (but not unlock) that would make it a "money app" for me.
