Android :: Color Picker Widget That Grab To Use In My App?
Mar 14, 2010
Does anyone know of a quick color picker widget that I could grab to use in my application? I've seen one in a few different applications that has a wheel with colors, and that you tap in the center to select, but I'm not sure where to find it. Google brings up nothing. Any color picker would be fine though.

I'm trying to create a color picker for Android that looks like a minimalistic version of Gimp's. So, it has a hue slider and a rectangle with saturation/value variants of a color chosen in hue slider.
Question: what is the best way to create the rectangle?
Right now, I'm creating an 200x200 array of pixels, but it takes ~5sec to create and display rectangle with that array. And I need colors in rectangle to change whenever I change the value in hue slider...
Rectangle is bitmap, Can I use color matrices on that and how?

I have created what I believe is a relatively useful color picker, derived and massively extended from the ColorPickDialog example in the API Demos. If anyone would like to try it out, it is available on the Market at Applications/Tools/UberColorPicker Demo". It didn't put it in the Demo section because it isn't a demo in the sense of being a free teaser of a nonfree product, if you see my meaning. If you like it, you can download the source from http://keithwiley.com/Downloads/AndroidUberColorPickerDemo.zip. Feel free to drop it -- ready-to-go and unmodified - into your own apps (I use it for setting text color preferences in Shead Spreet)...or to hack, extend, and change it however you see fit.

I'm writing a bitmap editor. Each document consists of about 3 bitmap layers and documents are, at the moment, saved as a custom file with a .bme extension. These files can be converted to standard jpg/png files by rendering each bitmap on top of one bitmap and saving the latter. I need some way for the user to be able to select .bme files they've created already. Is there anything in Android that can make this easier for me? The only option I can see is to write an activity that creates a list view and write a list adapter that looks for .bme files on disk i.e. a copy of the standard "Media Gallery" app that works for my .bme files. The list adapter will either have to generate a thumbnail preview of the image to show to the user or I'll have to package such a preview in the .bme file when they're created. This is the only option I can think of. I thought I'd ask in case there is more Android friendly way of doing this. For example, can you add custom file support to the "Media Gallery" app?

I made a custom widget (which is just a composite like):
<LinearLayout> <TextView> </LinearLayout>
this widget is focusable and reacts to touches. I'd like it to change its background color to the default system highlight color when the user scrolls to it, and have it blink when the user taps it (just like an element of a ListView does).
I can add an OnFocusChangeListener for when the user scrolls to it, and in the handler do the changing of the background color.
How would I add the 'blinking' behavior though when the user just taps it with a finger? I did something like this as a test code...
this is just a guess. Is there a correct way of implementing this behavior?

I've noticed that changing the background color of an android widget (f.ex. Button or TextView) by program:
myButton.setBackgroundColor(Color.BLUE);
makes it to loose its 3D shape, border, and shadows effects, and then appears like a ugly flat square. What am I missing?
Sorry for the very naive question but I couldn't get it right although tried for a time.

I had a ROM once that came with a widget built in that allowed me to apply different filters to my screen. For example, I could make everything red or blue. I don't remember what the widget was called but I remember it really saved my eyes in the middle of the night if I had the red filter enabled.
What this app/widget is called and where I might be able to get it?

Is there a way to make the LP calendar widget opaque? It is too transparent and allowing the wallpaper to show. Makes it hard to see some of the calendar entries. Same thing is true of the Facebook widget.
Is there another calendar option in LP besides the month view. Is there a week view for instance? Are there other colors available for the calendar besides black?
Why are the LP dock icons white. Are they available in color?

As described in this answer you cannot grab a progress of a multipart/form POST upload in Android using only the Android SDK, because there is an issue with the stream buffering when using HttpURLConnection which will be fixed post Froyo (see http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3164#c6).
Since the Apache HttpClient 3.1 was removed from the SDK quite early and the new HttpClient, which is now part of the SDK, wasn't adopted completely (it misses multipart capabilities) you can add the missing parts (specifically apache-mime4j-0.6.jar and httpmime-4.0.1.jar) to perform a multipart/form-data upload AND grab the progress of the upload (also described in the answer mentioned above).
Now, the reason why I open a new question is, that doing as described leads to an enormous growth of the installed app size (in my case from 170kb to 732kb).
So, the question is: Is there any other way to perform a multipart/form-data upload and grab the upload progress without increasing the app size that much? Are there any other libraries one can use or is there any other alternative way, not mentioned here?

I am developing an Android app which enables the user to upload a file to services like Twitpic and others.
The POST upload is done without any external libraries and works just fine. My only problem is, that I can't grab any progress because all the uploading is done when I receive the response, not while writing the bytes into the outputstream.

This new group seems to be a series of screen grabs, but I've no idea how I took them? I can imagine it'd be a useful feature at some point, but wouldn't know how I managed it

I've been looking into the photo picker which I want to use as part of an application I am developing. I have set up the picker to respond to intents and have tested it in my application. However the way I am hoping to use the photo picker is to restrict it to a specific folder on the SD card. Is this possible, I have looked through the API/SDK and have not found the information I was looking for.

I'm looking to create something EXACTLY like TimePickerDialog (look and feel) in Android, but it would be for MINUTES/SECONDS, not HOURS/MINUTES. Therefore AM/PM would not be relevant and would therefore allow MINUTE to be greater than 24 (making the max 59). Is it possible to change the TimePickerDialog instance in any way to reflect this?

But image if I have a huge contact list, it is not enough to just show list but possibility for filtering (by contact's name) is also needed. Is there a standard way to show phones list with picking possibility and with filtering possibility? (I wouldn't like to invent my own) Is there a solution for the problem for sdk 2.0 and lower?
