Android : Clear Contents Of A RelativeLayout Programmatically - Droid Java
Aug 19, 2010
I am dynamically adding ImageViews to a RelativeLayout depending on user input. I have also created a button that when pressed, should clear all of the content of that RelativeLayout (remove all children). I was hoping for a .clear() method, but no such luck.
can someone point me in the right direction here?
RelativeLayout rel = (RelativeLayout) findViewById(R.id.iv_section);
rel.SomethingToRemoveAllChildren();

I have ScrollView with RelativeLayout as a child of ScrollView. I am trying through JAVA code to set Layout_Gravity to CENTER so my RelativeLayout is centered (horizontally and vertically) in the middle of ScrollView (that covers whole screen).This works fine in XML and produces desired result, but when I try to do this programmatically, it seems there is no way to set Layout_Gravity of RelativeLayout. I tried using LayoutParams, but couldn't find anything there that would help me to center RelativeLayout in the middle. So, am I missing something or this simply can't be done?

Does anyone know how to clear defaults of my own app by code.I know that a user can always go to Manage Applications, find my app and click the button there to clear previously assigned default actions. But for most users this isn't intuitive at all. I would like to offer my customers a solution to clear defaults within my own app if they don't like to use my app as a replacement for a specific action anymore.

I want to programmatically clear the history of the android maps (and navigation) application.
I know there is a way to clear the browser history via Browser.clearSearches(getContentResolver());
And the corresponding permission: com.android.browser.permission.WRITE_HISTORY_BOOKMARKS
and this works fine (2.2.).
I couldn't find any way to clear the Maps-History though. Clearing the google/history online doesn't help either.
There are some apps in the market that promote to do that, so there must be an API for it, but i really couldn't find it yet.
I also messed around a bit with CLEAR_APP_CACHE and CLEAR_APP_USER_DATA but seems like they are signed/root-only permissions and delte too much anyways.

During my activity I'm sending an intent to the browser in order to display a webpage :
Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("http://ww.mywebpage.com"); startActivity(i);
I need to make sure that before sending the intent the browser cache and history are cleared so that the page get loaded from server directly and not from phone.
So far I've found the 2 following but I'm not sure they are used correctly :
Browser.clearHistory(getContentResolver());
Browser.clearSearches(getContentResolver());
Also with that cache is not cleared.

I'm creating an Android app, where the user starts out seeing a list of questions. When the user clicks a question, I would like to show him a new clickable list, containing that question and its answer alternatives.
My questions reside in rows in the database. The questions live in the first column, while the answer alternatives live in the following columns.
I've managed to display any single element from the row when I click a question in the list, but how to display more than one completely eludes me.
This is the relevant source code in the intent entered when the user clicks a question:
private void fillData() {
Bundle extras = getIntent().getExtras();
Long id = extras != null ? extras.getLong(QuestionsDbAdapter.KEY_ROWID) : null;
Cursor questionsCursor = mDbHelper.fetchQuestion(id);
startManagingCursor(questionsCursor);
String[] from = new String[]{mDbHelper.KEY_QUESTION,
mDbHelper.KEY_ALT1,mDbHelper.KEY_ALT2};
int[] to = new int[]{R.id.text1};
SimpleCursorAdapter questions =
new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.questions_one_row,
questionsCursor, from,to);
setListAdapter(questions);}
This displays only the question. If I put one of the answer alternatives first in the 'String[] from ...' statement, that gets displayed instead.

What exactly does HTC Sense Clear Data actually clear? That may be a solution to reverting back to 5 homescreen pages instead of 7 without having to do a factory reset. Just curious as to what I am going to mess up? Will i just have to personalize the homescreen again, put widgets up, reconnect to fb, twitter, myfaves, etc. It's not going remove any 3rd party apps, just make me create new widgets, etc..?

I've read the answer to a question as to how to access the contents of the databases, however I cannot seem to get it to work on my machine. Here is the shell log:
C:android-sdk-windows ools>adb -s emulator-5554 shell
# sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.demo.notepad2/databases/notes
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.demo.notepad2/databases/notes
SQLite version 3.5.9
Enter ".help" for instructions
sqlite> .tables
.tables
sqlite> ^C
C:android-sdk-windows ools>
SQLite simply echos my commands back to me, even although the Eclipse file browser tells me it exists. If I use the sqlite3 tool and use ".tables" the commands are accepted.
Is the SQLite syntax different through the emulator is am I missing something?

Is there a simple way to change the contents of a dialog box in Android without having to re-create the dialog box? I know that Activity.onCreateDialog() is only called once when the dialog first needs to be created, and this is where you initially set the dialog's contents. I need to change the dialog's contents later, so I'm wondering what is the proper way to do this.

I know my original post (at http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa..., I could not find a way to perform a reply, maybe it's too old) is not sexy, but I'm now facing that problem in many situations. Let me please rephrase what I attempt to do, and what my problem is.
I have a RelativeLayout made of three widgets (named 1, 2 and 3 on the illustrations below): one attached to its parent left border (labelled 1), one to its parent right border (labelled 2) and the third (labelled 3) inserted between the 2 previous ones (its left border is attached to the first widget right border, and its right border is attached to the second widget left border). The third widget (the middle/central one laballed "3") is far taller than the two others, and I would like the first and second items (1 and 2) to be vertically centered with the middle widget.
I have resorted to the "android:layout_centerVertical" attribute for both the first and second widget, but I do not get the expected result. See at the bottom the various layouts I'm mentionning. Could someone please help me, and tell me whether what I intend to do is feasible, and how? Thank you for your time.
Layout with no "android:layout_centerVertical" specified: ------- |1|3|2| --|3|-- |3| ---
Layout with "android:layout_centerVertical" set to "true":
--- |3| |3| |3| ------- |1| |2| --- ---
What I'd like: --- --|3|-- |1|3|2| --|3|-- ---

I've always been using RelativeLayout everytime I needed a View container, because of it's flexibility, even if I just wanted to display something really simple.Is it ok to do so, or should I try using a LinearLayout when I can, from a performance/good practices standpoint?

Since I'm still just learning Android (and it appears Amazon says it'll be 2 months till I get the Hello, Android book) I'm still playing around with doing simple things. I have no problem getting an icon to display with the click of a button on my RelativeLayout using ImageView. The code for creating it is as follows:
private int mIconIdCounter = 1;
private ImageView addIcon(){
ImageView item = new ImageView(this);
item.setImageResource( R.drawable.tiles );
item.setAdjustViewBounds(true);
RelativeLayout.LayoutParams params = new RelativeLayout.LayoutParams( LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT );
if( mIconIdCounter != 1 ){
params.addRule(RelativeLayout.RIGHT_OF, 1 );
}
item.setLayoutParams( params );
item.setId( mIconIdCounter );
++m_IconIdCounter;.......................

I'm trying to build an android application that features a graphical display drawn within a RelativeLayout. I want to place "+" and "-" buttons next to several of the parameters, which are drawn at various points on the canvas. The positions are free-form don't seem to conform to any of the standard XML layouts.I know how to create the buttons programmatically, but I don't know how to place them over the canvas where I need them to be. I'm assuming that this would be done in the view thread's doDraw() method, after all the graphics have been drawn, but how?

I have the following structure defined in an xml layout file.
<RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/mainLayout"
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<FrameLayout android:id="@+id/frame" android:layout_centerInParent="true" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" ></FrameLayout>
<Button android:id="@+id/button" android:layout_below="@id/frame" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
</RelativeLayout>
The FrameLayout is positioned correctly in the center of its parent. But the Button isn't getting positioned under it. Instead it's displaying in the top left corner. Am I doing something incorrectly or is this a bug with RelativeLayout?
