Android :: Changing Position And Margin Of Button Dynamically

I would like to change margin of my buttons in application. Suppose I have 5 buttons like this in a linear layout, one below d other. When I focus on a button, its width should increase (which I know how to handle) and at the same time, width should increase linearly towards both left and right. i.e. If the current width of the button is 250 with x co-ordinate as 50 (that means button's left is 50 and button's right is 300), when I focus on the button I should get x co-ordinate as 75 (left = 25 and right = 325). How to change the margin/x co-ordinate of the button?

I'm trying to learn how to build apps for Android. The first simple app, which will become a component of a bigger app I hope to build, is to have a button on the screen where, when tapped, it adds something new to the view. For instance: Imagine a layout that only has a button:

When that button is pressed, the view gets a new row added to it:

I want to take my activity the entire screen of the device and I could do that by making appropriate changes in the android manifest file (Theme. NoTitleBar .Fullscreen). But, now I just want battery status icon on my screen alongwith other components of my activity. Is that possible?if yes, then how? I tried to use battery manager but, it does not expose such interfaces. I guess its mainly useful for checking and using battery life status and firing intents appropriately. I have a tabactivity with several tabs. They are all defined with intents. On one tab, I have an action that needs to bring me to another tab and with a specific data. I worked with Intents and I broadcast them to change the tab. For that I have no problem. But I am facing an issue as soon as I try to reset my tabs for the second time (when the application starts, my method does not fail while called for the second time it hrows an exception). The issue comes only If I call the clearAllTabs() method on TabHost. Here is the exception:..........................

Is there any good example to show how a single compiled application could support both english and say germany.The aapt approach and Resource R.java approach seems to me that, we may need to have one binary for english and one for germany etc and so on. Like in J2ME, could we switch the language at runtime.

I have a textview in my XML layout file, but when I try to change its text value with code pragmatically (dynamically, depending on which button the user clicks) then the text of the textview doesn't change.
This is the code that I tried:
TextView userText = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.User);
userText.setText(bundle.getString("user"));
In debug mode, I can see that usertext has the changed text, but the change doesn't appear on my mobile window... I don't know why.
EDIT: SOLVED! it was a problem with my relative layout, text is out of the window!

I'm currently developing an app for Android which uses google map service. Because users will be able to see thousands of markers I would like to load only those which are currently within the map bounds (i.e. when user look at specific map tile). I know how to do it with javascript/html. However, Android doesn't seem to provide any similar methods such as containsLatLng(latlng) or getBounds (I only found getLatitudeSpan and getLongitudeSpan, but don't know how can I use them in order to achieve the similar effect). Can anyone give me some hint on that?

I want to show an AlertDialog with one option that might change on every request. So for example at one time I want to show the option "add to contacts" while another time it should be "remove from contacts".
My code does work on the first time, however Android seems to cache the AlertDialog so that onCreateDialog is not executed next time. Therefore the option doesn't change anymore. Can I prevent this caching, or is there just another way of changing the option?
I am working with SDK 1.5 but using 1.1. Code...

I'm trying to build an android application that features a graphical display drawn within a RelativeLayout. I want to place "+" and "-" buttons next to several of the parameters, which are drawn at various points on the canvas. The positions are free-form don't seem to conform to any of the standard XML layouts.I know how to create the buttons programmatically, but I don't know how to place them over the canvas where I need them to be. I'm assuming that this would be done in the view thread's doDraw() method, after all the graphics have been drawn, but how?

My external button is stuck down, and when I press the power button to wake my phone up it thinks that I am pressing both at the same time. So the phone goes into the Hboot screen, where I cannot choose a function. (because the volume button is stuck down position.) I have to remove the battery and wait about an hour or so then re-insert the battery and pray that it loads up. What can I do to stop this from happening? Or is there a way to control the Hboot screen other than using the volume button?

i've just returned to Android after about a year and a half and I never remember having this "issue" with my old galaxy s2x. But i am finding that whenever i am scrolling down a list, facebook, instagram, or even a webpage, and i hit the back button, it always starts me from the very TOP of the page again. I am used to just hitting back and having it remember my position halfway down or wherever i was. is this just an android thing?!

Is it possible to place buttons at an X,Y position over the top of a Canvas?
For example, on the opening screen of my game, I would like to place buttons for "Play Now", "Instructions", etc, right on top of the canvas.
Right now, I'm looking at Touch locations on the Canvas and comparing them to various X,Y bounds. It works, but adding a button with a click listener would probably be much more efficient.

Wondering if I'm going about this the right way or not. I have 3 buttons on my screen (Restart, Previous, Next). When the view loads it shows the first image which is fine. When I click the "Next" button I want it to load a second image and so on for up to 9 images. If I click the "Previous" button it should go back one image. Clicking "Restart" should go to the first image. I have the Restart one working. I'm having trouble with the Next button because it only shows the second image (I think because my "a" variable is initialized at 0).
