Android :: Best Approach For Making One Variable Available In Another Activity / Class?

Jun 22, 2009

I have tried to understand for the past 2 days what is the best approach to making the value from a variable sitting in activity A (in my case, the int position used in OnListItemClick / OnItemSelectedListener) available in another activity B (which of course sits in another class). There may be the option to write the result of the OnListItemClick int position into a small SQLite DB - but that seems to be total overkill.

Anybody could pls share the best approach with me?

{private Handler mHandler = new Handler();
StopTheThread()

This is the what I want to do:
} class Inner

Android :: How Should I Approach Making Server-side Software For An Application?

Nov 3, 2010

In the past I have used Python for backend stuff along with Django for frontend stuff, but I don't know how well those two work with Android. Can anyone recommend a good way to go about making server-side software that works well with Android? Please take into account that I also want a web application as a frontend, so the backend should work with both the web app and the Android app.

Android :: Passing Variable From One Class To Another

I am working to set a countdown timer. I have successfully (borrowed) a number picker (spinner) and set up the dialog box for the user to set the time. I want to call the set values (R.id.hour and R.id.mins) from the dialog (timepickeractivity) to the actual countdown class (countdown) but I can't figure out how to get the values.

Passing Variable From One Class To Another

Feb 20, 2012

I would like to setup a boolean called dFlag in the main.class of my program and reference it in another class.

I already have it setup to work locally just hitting a snag on how to do it.

Code:
public class Main extends Activity {
boolean dFlag; ///Debug flag, true=enabled | false=disabled
}
public class Other extends Activity {
if(dFLag = true) {
///Output debug message
}
}

Or is there an easier way to do what I want without having to re-invent the wheel so to speak?

Android :: Java Reflection - Get All Instance Variable Names Of A Class

Nov 5, 2010

I'm writing an android app that requires binding a JSON object into a domain entity with the keys from the JSON as instance variables. Since there are several domain entities, each with different instance variables that the JSON needs to bind to in the app, i'd like to write a method such as ths following: Loop through all the instance variables from the domain if a key exists in the JSON with the name of the instance variable, take the value for this key from the JSON and set the Domain's instance variable with this key name equal to this value. The reason i'm interested in the doing the binding from the class to the JSON is because if the JSON changes for some reason, I don't want it to break the app when the instance variable doesn't exist in the app's domain for a specific JSON key. Code...

Android :: Communicating Between Receiver Class And An Activity Class

Jul 14, 2010

I'm just getting into Android development, and I have a question about communicating between a receiver class and an activity class. I'm very new to JAVA and Android so I hope I don't sound too stupid. I'm developing an application where I intercept an SMS message and then based on various elements of that SMS I might delete it once it's been saved to the inbox. I have a receiver class that intercepts the txt message, and I am also able to delete messages from my inbox with code in the activity class using a button at the moment. The problem I have is communicating between the receiver class and the activity class where the code to delete a message resides. I tried putting that code directly into the receiver class but as I'm sure most of you already know the BroadcastReceiver class doesn't seem to support what I need to delete messages. I've been searching for an answer to this for a while, but haven't been able to find anything. Honestly I'm not sure I know enough about JAVA and Android to even recognize a solution if I saw it.

Android :: Changing Variable Affects Indirect Variable (value Vs Reference)

Sep 26, 2010

Is copying the reference to the object and not the value of the object. Meaning, when I modify pos.top or pos.bottom, the original object gets modified. I'm guessing I am missing a concept of pass object by reference vs value here which I thought I understood. What is the fix here? Is it a problem with how I defined my custom class?

Android :: Instance Variable Of Activity Not Being Set OnPostExecute Of AsyncTask - Return Data From AsyncTask

Jul 28, 2010

I'm trying to figure out the correct way to create an AsyncTask to retrieve some data from the internet and then to take that data and bundle it up in an Intent and pass it to a new activity(A list display). So in the first activity I just have an EditText and Button. In the event of an OnClick the task should be called and when it is finished the data should be bundled inside an Intent and passed to the next Activity. The problem is when I take the results from onPostExecute and set them to an instance variable of the main activity, that instance variable is still null when the task is complete. Here is the barebones version of the code:

CODE:...........

When I debug the application I see onPostExecute does contain a valid PlacesList full of results, so why is the instance variable places set to null after the task is executed? I am going about "returning data" from an AsyncTask incorrectly?

In this method i create a new intent of Application class and call startActivity(Application Class). But this is not working. Android :: Launching Intent From Class Outside An Activity

I've got two activities, one of them is called MyActivity. I want both of them to be able to use a function located in a class othat we may call MyClass. In MyClass, I try to use an intent to launch the activity AnotherActivity. Since the constructor takes a context as parameter, I simply tried to store a context from the activity in the constructor, and then use it when I try to create my intent.However, even thought none of the arguments are null (checked that with a simple if-statement), intent seems to be null and a NullPointerException is thrown. Why does it not work, and what can I do to solve the problem?
I'm quite new to Android and Java development, so please explain it as basic as you can.

Android :: Starting An Activity From A Random Class

Sep 18, 2010

I've adapted the GridInputProcessor-class of the 3D-Gallery ( http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=platform/packages/apps/Gallery3D.git;a=blob;f=src/com/cooliris/media/GridInputProcessor.java;h=91dfd4783be6b21ec8ff2518a5c244752570e90d;hb=HEAD ) so that it detects upward/downward swipes.

The detection of swipes works, but I now want to start another activity (or draw a bitmap on the currently displayed activity), but I seemingly can't use startActivity(mContext, myIntent), because the class declaration is public final class GridInputProcessor implements GestureDetector.OnGestureListener, GestureDetector.OnDoubleTapListener {so it doesn't extend Activity...

Can I still start an Activity through this class, or how would I go about doing this? I have also tried sending a broadcast, but this is also not "implemented".
