Android :: Best Remote Log In App For PC

Nov 20, 2010

Is anyone using the LogMeIn app, or a similar app. Not sure which one to use, and the $30.00 price tag for LogMeIn is a bit steep. Would like to hear some feedback on similar apps, and how well then function.

Android :: Remote Desktop App

May 24, 2010

I know there are lots of threads about this already, but I need to RDP for work. So I have been looking for the best app to do that.I tried xtralogic's rdp, which is nice, but it looks like it only works with VPN, and when I tried to VPN in, it would give me a out of memory warning, and crash. So I tried phonemypc. also nice, but that only works if the account in use is constantly logged on to the servers, which I can't do.My account always gets logged off because other users need to get on as well.is there another app that might work better than these? does anyone else have a similar problem?

Remote Drawables In Android 4.0.3?

Sep 23, 2012

Im developing an app which is a product catalogue. Users can search for and view products (books). It's all read only and just so allow user's to view products. When the user clicks on a product, the next screen displays

- book title
- book author
- picture of front cover.

It's the picture part that I've a question about. I know one way to present drawables is to have them in the "drawable" direction in my android project and access them (in my xml file) as android:src="@drawable/name".

Only problem is that new products will be added so I can't store drawables in the APK file when I release it. I'll need to read them at runtime. I'm wondering what the best way to approach this is.

I'm thinking of upon app launch executing an AsyncTask which would call

openConnection of HttpURLConnection and would grab down all drawable(from a particular remote directory on a website) and would then store them in the sqllite db (as a blob). Each product in the db could easily be associated with it's specific drawable.

Not sure if there's a better approach to this ? or should I save them to the internal storage of the device (I know the size is an issue with this option). Or I could, when I show the product, call the Async task to present the image - i.e.get the image when the user requests it. This sounds good.

Android :: Remote Desktop (RDP) Client

Mar 8, 2010

I was looking for a Remoter Desktop client in the marketplace and see there are quite a few pay ones (too bad there are no free ones). None of them mention if they work with the new, more secure, RDP introduced with the latest versions of Windows. I tried one demo app, and it failed to connect to my Windows 7 computer (which uses this latest version by default). Can anyone confirm a remote desktop client that supports the latest version of RD?I found a great VNC viewer, but I need one that specifically supports the built in remote desktop protocol.

Android :: How To Use Phone As A Remote Control?

Aug 18, 2010

I've been reading a lot to being able to remote control my Linux running computers at home. I have a 60gig music collection and want to be able to play it smoothly on any of the computers or my Android. Of course I want to remote control the computers since most of them are headless (=without monitors) and until now I've remote desktop-ed them from the laptop. Oh and all the computers are Ubuntu installed. It turns out there are many different media players, even allowing DAAP or UDNP setup so that the media library is shared over my LAN, even to the Internet (subsonic). The best application I've found are Spottily and Groove shark, they're a beauty to use since the music is always available - but unfortunately they don't allow for any kind of remote control. So I thought; what if I could use some of the great media players for Android but just change the audio device they're playing on. Since Lucid Lynx actually brought an updated version of Pulse audio (the default audio device) which allows you to play music onto another computer on the network!

Android :: App Widgets And Remote Views

Apr 14, 2009

I've just spent the last few hours nosing around to see what's new in this 1.5 pre-release. I decided to implement an app widget to try out the new package. From the provider end it's very straightforward, but I'm not certain about the performance implications.Specifically, I decided to implement a clock (see http://www.tomgibara.com/android/babilo for a screenshot). In my implementation I render the clock image into a bitmap and have a very simple remote view that consists of a single image view to display it. This means that the bitmap must be marshalled on every update and the process must be in memory too of course. That's a lot of memory for a clock. Is there a better approach? Or is a non-digital clock ill suited as a widget? Also is there a way for the widget provider to know (receive a hint for) the size at which the widget will be rendered? This is useful in this instance since one doesn't want to make the bitmap any larger than necessary.
