Android :: Automatic Way To Equally Spaced TableLayout Grid?
Jan 29, 2010
I have a TableLayout where each cell of the table contains a single button or textView. I want to make sure that every cell has the same height and the same width. In other words all column widths are the same and all row heights are the same. Of course, it has to do this while resizing the TableLayout to its given layout_width and layout_height. Do I have to do the math myself and set each cell manually or is there an automatic way to do it?

I have a two column TableLayout as the only child of a scroll view. The first column contains TextViews ('labels') and the second column contains EditText/Spinner/DateWidget etc ('values').
Even though I have have specified android:layout_width="fill_parent" for TableLayout, TableRow & all widgets (in 'values' column).
The screen looks perfect when the activity is created. However, when one types a really long value in the EditText, the 'values' column goes beyond the visible screen area.

I have this layout that works correctly, a relative layout with a text view and two buttons spaced evenly below it.
CODE:........
But running layoutopt it says that "this TableRow layout or its TableLayout parent is possible useless".
Is there a way to do this layout then without the tables?

Im using a LinearLayout to put two buttons horizontally side-by-side, but I want to each button to size itself to use 50% of the horizontal space. I thought layout_weight of "1" for each button would do the trick, but maybe my layout_width needs to be changed?

I think that there is possible bug in TableLayout SDK 1.0 rc2 when constructing table from code. It seams that the weight or height attribute is not respected when rendering the layout.
The XML view creates a table with row at the top and row at the bottom of the screen which is what supposed to happen, so I created this same table via code but the results are not what were expected. Maybe I am missing something but it seams OK, all LayoutParams are this same.
Sample Code ...
If anyone else can confirm this I will post this as a bug.

I have used GridView for 2-dim grid of Buttons. My problem is, that a user may "navigate" through this grid's cells -- with use of arrow keys it is possible to move yellow rectangle and by pressing enter select cell (rectangle becomes orange for a moment). Everything is behind buttons which are placed in cells of grid. How to disable possibility to select and navigate cells of grid? I would like to still use grid view but have the same possibility to navigate (change focus) among buttons (not cells in which buttons are placed) at it is possible when I place buttons in cells of TableView (not GridView).

how to get all TableRow's in a TableLayout. I already know how to add and delete rows dynamically, but I need to loop over all the rows and selectively delete some of them. I think I can come up with a work around, but I'm trying to avoid crude hacks in my app.

I want to design a table whose first column items remain fixed when user scrolls horizontally, but should scroll when the user scrolls vertically. Similarly the first row items remain fixed when user scrolls vertically, but should scroll when the user scrolls horizontally. Can this be achieved using a TableLayout? Or is there any other combination of widgets that I could use?

Here is the xml file of my Android widget: http://pastebin.com/Kqxs5t9E
This code is showing me some good results in Eclipse, but as soon as I sent the file to my device and try to add the widget to my homescreen I get this error code and the widget showing: "Problem Loading the Widget":
http://pastebin.com/UcvWs1DA
So what? I cannot use a Tablelayout within a widget?
What is the best solution so? I can create a lot of relativelayout but I guess that's not a good idea.

What I want is a central column using Grid View, but everything I try does not work. It always aligns to the left. I have tried messing around with layout_gravity and gravity to no avail. I have a Grid View in a Linear Layout:
<Linear Layout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent".

I have a GridView of 9 rows of which the first one is sort of "header" row.As there are 8 more rows they flow beyond the end of screen and need to be scrolled down to.However this scrolling also causes the first row to go "off-screen".Was wondering if there is any way I can prevent the first row alone from being scrolled off?I dont want to make this a separate LinearLayout as it is part of a dynamic View (the GridView) that I create at runtime.
