Longtime lurker first time poster, so I just got swype over the weekend and I love it, but gmote touch-pad does not. Cant use the keyboard functionality to write anything into search bars, forms, etc. so I have to switch back to the regular keyboard just for that app
Not a big deal if there was an easy way to switch back to normal, but for the life of me I cant figure out how. I know to change INTO swipe you long press the "123" key and it brings up input method options, once im in swype how can I quickly get back to that options menu?

Any app which let me easily write in it (with keyboard) or draw (with stylus or finger)? I am looking for app more like kingsoft office or polaris than any drawing apps like skitch or sketchbook.
Only working apps i found are skitch and supernote, but in skitch i need to click icon everytime i want to wrote or draw sth and in supernote after making picture, it is fitted to the line.
For me the best would be app where i could draw table and than write inside it. Or sth close to it

I have an application that can read and write txt files to the phones sdcard. By using this code for reading files:
@Override protected void onListItemClick(ListView l, View v, int position, long id) { super.onListItemClick(l, v, position, id); mFileNameOpen = files.get(position);
String st = null; mVector.clear();
notepad.mNewEmpty = false; try { File f = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()+"/ notepad/"+mFileNameOpen); FileInputStream fileIS = new FileInputStream(f);
BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(fileIS));
do { st = in.readLine();
mVector.add(st);
}while(st!=null); in.close(); ...
} catch (FileNotFoundException e) { e.printStackTrace();
} catch (IOException e) e.printStackTrace();
and this to write them:
try { File root = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory();
File fileCheck = new File(root, "/notepad/" + fileNameSave + saveExtension);
boolean exists = fileCheck.exists();
if (!exists) { if (root.canWrite()) { File textFile = new File(root, "/notepad/" + fileNameSave + saveExtension);
FileWriter textWriter = new FileWriter(textFile);
BufferedWriter out = new BufferedWriter(textWriter);
out.write(SAVEAS); out.close(); written = true;
} else { written = false; else { written = true; showMaybe = 1; showDialog(DIALOG_SAVE_EXISTS);
catch (IOException e) {Log.v(getString(R.string.app_name), e.getMessage());
This has been working fine on my Tattoo and all the emulators I've tried this on. But it does not seem to be working on moto droid. Is there something different to consider with moto droid? Or have I missed something in the manifest maybe?

I am very new to android. The Eclipse and the Emulator is running and I have bought an device already. I want to write a little UPnP- Discover-Application first. I used CyberLinkForJava under Java some years ago. I read on this list (2010/1/29) that this framework can be used under android too. Like mentioned in the post from skonno I downloaded the code via svn from sourceforge and copied the trunk/cyberlink/upnp-stack/src/main/ java section into the source folder of my android project. Then I`d got errors in XercesParse.java and kXML2Parser.java. If I delete this classes it runs without errors. But the code from the cyberlink documentation. Code...

I have two published apps that are pretty targeted to the user collecting their personal medical data (like Blood Pressure, etc.) and then, eventually sending it somewhere, if they choose.
I decided to put Read/Write permission on my ContentProvider, so if another app comes along that wants to the access that content, the user will be warned. The permission that is required is declared in my apps.
When the user installs my apps, they are also given a warning that the app requires that permission (even though it's the one that declares it), and it shows up in the Marketplace also.
The question is: Is it possible that the permission acceptance part of installing my app could be putting customers off? I don't know what other's acceptance rate is, but mine is around 50% of customers who download it have active installs.

How can I write a Broadcast Receiver that will be invoked when user clicks on any application icon?
I tried by writing:
CODE:...................
But it is not called.
I tried, by using Packagemanager I will get ApplicationInfo. From that I can know all the application starting activity name and package names. I thought I can use them to registerReceiver and my receiver will listen by its launching activity and package name.

BackGround: There are Facebook APIs(and SDKs) available to develop applications for other Mobile devices like iPhone, BlackBerry etc, but it seems there are no official ones for Android(?).
People have ported Java APIs to work on Android and have written FaceBook Client applications(FaceBook dev: Wiki Page). Apparently, there is also a light weight FaceBook SDK in alpha release for Android(a la FBRocket). But it is not avised to be used in Production.
Since these FaceBook functionalities have been exposed as REST based service, most of work would invove sending requests in desired format over Http. So, writing a FaceBook client app for Android certainly is doable.There are similar applications already in market e.g.: Bloo.
Questions: When asked to write a FaceBook client application what approach should one undertake? Should we choose the SDK or invoke the services over Http?
If there is already a Web application that integrates with FaceBook, can we just browse to that Application from inside a WebView and be done with this?

I have tried adding the code to Activity.onUserInteraction to no avail. It seems the keyboard appears after the onUserInteraction executes.

I am currently working on a multi-threaded game application for the Android platform. so far so good. I just got over a bug in my application which caused it to restart on orientation change (fixed by designating a specific orientation depending on the availability of a hardware keyboard or not, which is important 'cuz it is an online game with chat capabilities), and that works. BUT now i am trying to avoid the same problem when the user simply slides open the hardware keyboard. I'm not quite sure how to go about avoiding the restart of my application or the saving of the state of my application. Any solutions/suggestions?

For those of you that are familiar with better keyboard. I was wondering about an easy way to switch from the t9 keyboard to the regular qwerty keyboard. I was under the impression that swiping left would toggle between the 2 but all that does is bring me to the numbers and symbols keyboard. I've been changing back and forth to the android keyboard because its faster than going into the better keyboard settings.

I tried it and it works so far.
Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.
From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers
Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'
Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion
Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.
The app is still in development.

I'm working on a mobile web application and all phones don't casue any trouble with the soft keyboard and input fields, but Android does (tested on a HTC One).
Here's the problem:I've got a log in page with a log in form. When and input is selected, the soft keyboard appears. The soft keyboard kicks some elements up, which causes the lay out of the page to break. On iOS and Windows Phone, the soft keyboard kicks the whole page, so basically the DOM or body up to make room for the soft keyboard. The Android browser, however, lets the body stay where it is and only kicks some elements up, which causes the lay out to break.
Normal page:
When input is selected:
What the desired effect is (achieved on iOS and Windows Phone):
I haven't used any position fixed, only absolute on the page wrapper, header and header logo.
