Android : App That Show Differnt Event Filtering Views With Widgets?
Nov 21, 2010
Right - have now got a good reminder snooze app (calendar snooze) - but as mentioned here before it still cant do anything with tasks as android doesnt remind fully for tasks
so - im thinking of creating a calendar called 'tasks' and using this for task-events - and then not showing it in my normal calendar apps. it could mess everything up
one thought is will calendar apps be able to show differnt event filtering views with different widgets etc ?
ie: widget 1 shows normal calendar with 'tasks' filtered out widget 2 shows just 'tasks' calendar.

Actually I'm trying to implement an ontouchlistener into my android (1.5) application. therefore i implemented the "ontouchlistener" into the class, and then i put my code into the: So isn't there a way to catch the touch event before it gets to each of those views?

I need to capture the absolute positions of some ImageViews to use as drop targets. I can't seem to find what event I need to put my code in to read the screen and get the Left(), Top() .. positions. I do not want monitor the inflation of each individual view. There must be some sort of onScreenFinsihed type of event, but I can't find it. onMeasure and onDraw seem to fire at the start of their work, I need to know when they are done.

I've just spent the last few hours nosing around to see what's new in this 1.5 pre-release. I decided to implement an app widget to try out the new package. From the provider end it's very straightforward, but I'm not certain about the performance implications.Specifically, I decided to implement a clock (see http://www.tomgibara.com/android/babilo for a screenshot). In my implementation I render the clock image into a bitmap and have a very simple remote view that consists of a single image view to display it. This means that the bitmap must be marshalled on every update and the process must be in memory too of course. That's a lot of memory for a clock. Is there a better approach? Or is a non-digital clock ill suited as a widget?Also is there a way for the widget provider to know (receive a hint for) the size at which the widget will be rendered? This is useful in this instance since one doesn't want to make the bitmap any larger than necessary.

I want to change how a gallery looks like. I want to add 2 jogs at each side, so looks like this:
http://omploader.org/vNHc2Yw/device.png
First approach was to add the "jogs" to the ImageAdapter (at the beginning and at the end) for the Gallery. The Gallery will show the items as usual, but It will apply the custom background and also if you specify spacing, you will get an ugly gallery. Also, I want the jog not to be centered as the others images. Then, I decided to download the whole api and modify the Gallery source in a way so to handle specially the first item and the last item of the adapter. But, I don't know how to compile the api alone. The Makefile in the root project will build 6gb of the whole android platform. If someone can explain me how to build just the API, I will be grateful.
The other approach was to compose Views. I thought to add ImageView's to the left and right corner and to be scrolled when needed, but when the Gallery capture the events I can't forward it to the holder of the ImageViews. So, I extend Gallery, and I override onScroll() like this:
super.onScroll(e1,e2,distanceX,distanceY); return false;
and also onTouchEvent() like this:
super.onTouchEvent(event); return false;
But unfortunately when I return false wihtin onTouchEvent() the Gallery does not scroll.
So, main questions are:
1) How can I compile the modified API to generete a MyGallery.class to be added to android.jar? If I modify the source code of Gallery.java I can manage the fill of the Gallery for the specific items I want (I already read the source code).
2) In other approach, Is it possible to handle one event by 2 widgets? If so, I could overlap the Gallery above a jog. The Gallery will scroll as he knows, and I will scroll as I want.
3) If those approachs are bad, what will you recommend ?
I don't get why the Gallery does not have this nice feature I want to implement, kind of: setBorders(left, right) and etc. The problem on extending Gallery, is that when you add a View (for instance, the "jog"), you specify a position. Gallery fills the gallery getting the Views of it container with: getChildAt(0) and getChildAt(numChildren -1) when filling to right and left, respectively. Then, it gathers the 'unseen' Views from the Adapter. So the added view (the 'jog') will be scrolled by Gallery, but when the view is no longer visible, the Gallery itself has no way to get back that view, as it's not in the Adapter.

I'm going to ask a shot version of my question first because, as I was typing out my thorough explanation below, I realized that I had seen a setting that I believe fixes my problem but I cannot remember where it is or how to get to it. In short, the problem I am having is that Non-recurring events (one time appointment) that are in the Google Calendar online are not showing in the Moment calendar app. There was a Settings Page not sure if it was in the main OS menu or the Calendar menu that gave you the option of choosing to show events "before" a certain date and to show events "After" a certain date. You repeatedly tap the two "before" or "after" options and the dates would move further back in time and further forward in time respectively creating a date range.
Non-recurring events, obviously, continue to show for years prior or in the future but Non-recurring one-time events outside of a "range" of a time period do not show. Does Anyone know what the setting I am referring to and how to get back to it?? If not, perhaps my more thorough explanation of my problem and what I am trying to accomplish below might help me find the display before this date/after this date setting that I cannot find again! (longer explanation/description follows below): We have a Moment and an EVO and we are both new to Android but it appears I am only having the problem with our Moment. Though we are new to Android and the gmail sync, I am very comfortable with the sync process and working with Google Calendar online or on the phone and the settings for forcing a sync, choosing which calendars to display, etc. I did some troubleshooting of the problem and this is what I have figure out here goes:
It appears that the calendar on the Moment is only showing recurring events birthdays, anniversaries anything where the event is set to recur some time in the future. The non-recurring events a random party, a random doctor's appointment does NOT show on the Moment Calendar app! I prefaced my issue with being comfortable and familiar with the Google calendar operation because I am certain that the events are in the Google Calendar online. If I change the one-time event to a yearly recurring event and force the phone to sync then WHAM BAM the now recurring event shows in the Moment calendar app. Remove the recurrence and go back to the one-time doctor appointment, sync, and disappears again! The other odd thing is that "old" Non-recurring events that have already passed do seem to continue to show on the Moment calendar app for about a month. In other words, stuff back to about a month from today (today 7/20) DOES SHOW even if non-recurring but anything older than a month does not show.
Now I can Understand why if you had a doctor's appointment on May 20, 2010, that that even should NOT appear on either your Google Calendar online OR your Moment calendar app for May 20, **2011** because that doesn't make sense. However, it DOES make sense and is important to be able to go back to May 2010 and ask,"what day was that appointment with so-and-so company?" and you scroll back in your calendar to see the name of the company or "In February, 2010, did our son or daughter see the doctor? and you scroll back a few months to see that your son and not your daughter went. The Google Calendar online does NOT automatically purge older events, they are all visible online back yearsand years. Why is the Moment "purging"/not displaying non-recurring events on the phone that are in a range of about 1 month old to about to happen in a month?

I have a simple ListView and on that ListView I have placed a number of custom defined Views. The CustomView has ImageView and two TextViews.
The CustomView also has a "stateful drawable" as background, so that the background image (a 9-patch) changes if you press the Row in the ListView. When pressing the Row, the background image changes to a Red-ish thing.
The problem is that when the background changes from the default greyish, all the Views in the CustomView (ImageView and TextViews) still have their greyish background and thus creates very ugly greay boxes on top of the now redish background.
What is the best way to solve that problem? I hoped that such things were handled automatically (as it is done in for example .NET), but I was wrong it seems.

Okay, I've spent 2 whole hours making sure that I'm not repeating a thread and I couldn't believe no one has made a thread on their fav widgets yet and how they use them! This is something similar to Khaag27's forum so plz dont hit me with copyright infringements.
To start out, I don't have a screen capture, so I can't just show you the screen shots, which I strongly encourage others to use if they have it..rooted bastards lol..but I'll tell you which widgets I have on which screens. I also know that widgets take up a lot of your battery, but I don't see many people using them on their screens. It's like why not?
On my furthest screen to the left, I just have 3 widgets, which are my personal favorite because they tell me all my interest in life! (well almost) They are Gaming Buzz, US Sports Buzz, and Mobile Buzz by AdMob. Great widgets that I've never seen others use.
Next is just my gaming screen.
Next is the SportsTap widget. Like to stay updated with my Rockets and the Black Mamba
Home screen is the second HTC calendar widget..smaller version..i have the smaller version of HTC's weather app, which I update manually..I have the Ringer toggle widget..which is great for quickly configuring your vib..silent settings..and I have the Bible Daily verse..which is great for starting my day off
Next is Tune Wiki, which I rarely hear about lately, and Pandora. I also have iSearch..which I never see either..I'm starting to think if I'm really the only one using these!!
Next is the toggle settings for wifi..gps..etc..then the contacts widget..the smaller version..
I recently removed the mail widget as I saw that this was hogging up a lot of battery and I don't like nosey people really lol..
sorry for the long post but as said, I don't have screen capture In other words, what are you fav widgets?!! which probably should been the title lol..
Plz share as I'm always looking for uses for my screens since I'm not a rooted user and patiently waiting for 2.1!!

I am implementing a music player application in Android. My play list selection screen is implemented as a tab selector widget which contains a ListActivity inside each of the tabs: Artist, Albums, Songs.
I want to update the ListView in each of the ListActivity when I delete an item from any of the lists.
i.e. When I long press an item in the Artists list a context menu is drawn with "Delete Artist"
And it should delete all the songs from this artist in the Songs ListView, delete all the albums by this artist in the Albums ListView, and finally delete the entry for the artist in the Artist ListView.
Each of the ListActivity has its own fillData() method, which updates the ListView when the button in the context menu is pressed.
How can I call the fillData() method of the Albums ListActivity after I update the ListView inside of the Artists ListActivity?

I have the following XML code:.................
The idea is to change the views, whenever I press one of the radio buttons. When I press a button the first time everything works out fine, but the second time I press a button, I get an IllegalStateException, and I can't quite see why I'm getting this.
Also, the Activity seems to set all my global variables to null, which is why I have to create them every time I switch from portrait to landscape or vice versa. So I would like to know if there is a way I can save my views in the Bundle, or any other way in which I can permanently save my views, so I don't have to add or create them every time, I flip the phone. And whenever I flip the phone, it seems that it rereads the main XML file, causing the RadioGroup to be set to 2D even if the 3D button is checked. This is because I've said the 2D button to be checked from when the app is first created, but I would like to also save the state of that RadioGroup.

Is there any way to query a root view of an activity for all of its child views even before the root view or its children have been inflated? I guess what I'm looking for is whether a view knows ahead of time what children it will have before it gets inflated, and can I get that list in some way. Bizarre I realize, but I think it will help me with some unconventional automation testing I'm working on. I haven't found anything in the API like this.

I am looking for an all-in-one SMS app that can filter incoming messages based on words and phrases in the message. The reason being that I have monitoring systems at work that send SMS alerts and sometimes the alerts are just FYI, not OMG's
So anyways, right now I have a Hero, so I use Handcent for the replacement of the stock app until it is fixed and SMS Firewall to filter incoming messages and do the alerting. Being a 2 part solution it works very well, but I was curious if anyone has tried anything that has it all in one.
I have tried a few of the apps out there and none seem to work right.
Here's what I tried without success
aFirewall (didn't seem to filter properly)
SMS manager (can't remember what was wrong)
SMS Guard (kept getting a force close when a message came in)
PandaFirewall (didn't filter anything properly when I tested)
GSMS (force close when trying to view inbox)
I was going to try UltimateSMS, but it appears to have been removed from the Market.

I am trying to write a clean bit of code that can list the people in a 1.5/1.6 Contacts data store, and I do not see how I filter out the cruft that Google throws in (ad hoc "contacts" literally addressed by other apps and stored, for some reason, in the contact list without a clear means of discerning them from the real people the user cared to enter - the ones that would appear in the contacts app). I see that in 2.0 or so, "IN_VISIBLE_GROUP" is added as a field which seems to differentiate these versions, but what existed to accomplish this before that time? Here is my code which works in 2.x and fails to keep the chaff out in 1.x, as the selection parameter is unsupported:
final String[] proj = new String[] { Contacts.People._ID, Contacts.People.NAME };
final String selection = Build.VERSION.SDK_INT < 5 ? null : ContactsContract.Contacts.IN_VISIBLE_GROUP + "=1";
Cursor people = context.getContentResolver().query( Contacts.People.CONTENT_URI, proj, selection, null, Contacts.People.DEFAULT_SORT_ORDER);
if (people != null) { final int personIdColumn = people .getColumnIndexOrThrow(Contacts.People._ID);
final int nameColumn = people .getColumnIndexOrThrow(Contacts.People.NAME);
while (people.moveToNext()) { if (Thread.interrupted()) { people.close();
outputList.clear(); throw new InterruptedException();
} long personId = people.getLong(personIdColumn);
String name = people.getString(nameColumn);
if (name != null) { outputList.add(new Contact(personId, name));
} } // clean up cursor people.close();
}

I have a ListView (with setTextFilterEnabled(true)) and a custom adapter (extends ArrayAdapter) which I update from the main UI thread whenever a new item is added/inserted. Everything works fine at first--new items show up in the list immediately. However this stops the moment I try to filter the list.Filtering works, but I do it once and all of my succeeding attempts to modify the contents of the list (add, remove) don't display anymore. I used the Log to see if the adapter's list data gets updated properly, and it does, but it's no longer in sync with the ListView shown.

Since the query that comprises my ListView basically gets the rowID, name, and a third column from my databases's table, I want to be able to filter the cursor based on the partial value of the name column. However, I am uncertain of whether I can do this directly from runQuery without expanding my DB class since I want to filter the existing cursor, or will I have to create a new query function in my DB class that partially searches my name column, and if so, how would I go about creating the query statement while using the CharSequence constraint argument in runQuery?I am also concerned about the performance issues associated with trying to run multiple queries based on partial text since the DB table in question has about 1300-1400 rows. In other words, would I run into a bottleneck trying to filter the cursor?

Is there anything like this in the OpenGL ES standard or do I have to make one texture for each size?
