View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to implement multiline text with ellipsis with txt to be no more than two lines. Ellipsis attributes in default TextView does not seem to work for multiline text. I could implement my own text widget, but i don't know how to break text into multiple lines. In this case I could draw text line by line and draw ellipsis on second line if necessary.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a couple questions on ellipsize on the TextView...
1) Is there anyway to get ellipsize to work on a multiline TextView? So that the ellipses are shown at the end of the text, rather than at the end of the line? If not what is the best way to handle this on my own?]
2) Is there any way to change the character used for eellipsize? For example, use "... [Read More]", this obviously coincides with question 1 above since one wouldn't want to take half of the single line to say read more, but on a multiline, it would be nice to be able to have like 3 or 4 lines and then a read more? Maybe there is a better way to do this that I haven't figured out yet?
I have a gallery widget and in that i had a view with linear layout which has a edit text inside. When it launches on device the edittext box shows but has no text visible.
However when i scroll to next view in gallery it shows text and when it comes to focus and centered the text disappears.
If i replace gallery with grid or a horizontal view I can see the text on edit text.
Can you please advise what I might be doing wrong here. Why the text disappears.
I need to create a form to insert a username for my application, so I want the user to be able to insert only letters, numbers and some symbols.
I noticed that there is not a simple way to do it (while if I needed a numeric fields the implementation would be easy).
The most easy way that I found is based on the usage of the attribute "digits" of the EditText View. Hence, I inserted a string with the list of characters to be accepted (example: 1234abce).
The filter works as expected. When the keyboard appears, the user can insert only the characters that I specified in the "digits" field. The problem is that the keyboard does not accept the "Enter" key, so there is no way for the user to click/touch Enter so to confirm their Input and make the on-screen keyboard to disappear.
I want to have a font-size preference in percentage relative to the default font-size, so I need to get the default font-size for a TextView.How do I get the default font-size of a TextView?

The view required is something like :
Name: Abc
address: 23,abc street,fhjhg apartments,Country
Email: abcdgehfhf@mail.com
address text view has width set as wrap-content
but it appears like:
Name: Abc
address: 23,abc street

I want an EditText to look like TextView but still behave like EditText. I've tried applying TextView style to my EditText in my layout.xml file, like this:
CODE:............
But I get an error within xml editor: "Error: No resource found that matches the given name (at 'style' with value '@android:style/ Widget_TextView')." It is strange because @android:style/ Widget_TextView definitively exists - I double checked it in code via android.R.style.Widget_TextView. Another strange thing is that I don't get android:style offered in the xml editor while typing? There is android:id, android:text and everything else.. but not android:style?
I consider the hard way (making EditText look like TextView) to be: extending EditText and overriding it's onDraw method.
I am required to use custom fonts in my application.
Problem: For ListViews that contain rows with Multi-Line TextViews having ellipsize property set to true, I can see some illegible characters after the ellipsis. Apparently Android pads the String(in TextView) with some characters(ZERO WIDTH NO BREAK-SPACE) unknown to my custom font. Single line TextView seem to work just fine.
What is the best way to hide these characters or remove the padding?
Also, is there any variant of Helvetica font, freely available that would have ZERO WIDTH NO BREAK-SPACE character?
Our app (WordPress for Android) uses a ScrollView for the new blog post view. The issue is that if a user writes a lengthy blog post in the EditText, they are unable to scroll inside of the EditText because the ScrollView seems to be taking over the scrolling action, even when you are in the EditText.
Here's the layout XML (the EditText in question is @id/content):

I am using an EditText. Is it possible to have a part of text uneditable and the rest editable in the same EditText?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to develop a simple application to add a caption into a image, but I have a problem.
The app is simple: I click on a TextView, an AlertDialog pops-up with a EditText, I insert some text, click at "ok" and it sets that text as the textview.
Then comes my problem: I click on a save button and it saves the image with that caption on my sd card. If it's a short text, everything's fine, but on text's that have more than one line it shows everything on only one line. So, if it's a long text, instead of breaking it according to the image's width and continuing into a new line, it just keeps going off the screen.
I'm using canvas.drawText to do it, but it doesn't support line breaks so I'm pretty lost about this.
Is there another way to do this that supports line break? Or a way to break the string into a new line and then use drawText?
Every time I put a TextView before an EditText element in a LinearLayout, the EditText does not show. When I don't, it does.
I've narrowed the problem down to the TextView's layout_width attribute. If I give it "wrap_content", it works, but doesn't "block" down, and it appears on the same line as the EditText.

I have this at the top of my application. When the application starts, the EditText is orange highlighted and has a cursor in it; when the EditText is tapped, the soft keyboard pops up. The user uses it to type into the EditText.
However, when they click the Button, my onClick method fires and does everything it's supposed to, however the soft keyboard stays on screen and the EditText is still highlighted with its cursor.
I also have, at the top of the Button onclick: findViewById(R.id.name).clearFocus();
In spite of this, the EditText does not seem to clear its focus. How do I make the button actually act as if it is submitting the form?
Also, I do not transition to a different Activity on the click of the Button. I suppose that is the typical case, and probably the reason why they don't bother hiding the keyboard. However I want to keep the search box and button at the top of the screen, so I just dynamically fill and add views to the screen when the Button is pressed. How can I achieve my desired behavior?
I am trying to set up a ViewFlipper that changes a SlidingDrawers content each time a button is pressed. So far every view I set up worked fine, but now I am trying to create a ListView (including single_choice_mode) within a child view of the ViewFlipper, but my attempt only let to a NullPointerException. As I only discovered ViewFlipper today, I am not yet familiar with it and may not have understood it completely. if someone could give me a hand and help me find out what I have done wrong, that would be great. Here is what I have done:
The code for the onClick event of the ImageButtons:
public void onClick(View v){
if (v == btnExposure){
mFlipper.setDisplayedChild(0); }
else if (v == btnProperties){
mFlipper.setDisplayedChild(1);}
else if (v == btnSpecialEffects){
mFlipper.setDisplayedChild(2);.............

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to populate the text of a second EditText widget with the text from the first EditText widget only when the second EditText widget receives focus, the second widget is not empty, and the first widget is not empty. When I run it and click into the second widget it does not populate. When I remove the third constraint ('etxt.getText ().toString().trim() == ""')) it works. so getText() on the second EditText widget is returning something even though the second widget has no initial value other then the text that is displayed via the hint attribute.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to build my own custom view which should look like the Crysis-GUI.At first I designed a XML-based Layout and made it visible via the setContentView(int resid)-Method. Worked pretty well.But now I wan't to go a step further and draw in my Layout. So I created a new Class, let it extend View and overrode the onDraw()-Method. So far so good.But how can I still use my XML-Layout? I can't do setContentView anymore, so how could the same effect be achieved?

So my layout looks basically like this:
<ScrollView>
<RelativeLayout>
<BunchOfViews/>
<ImageView android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"/>
</RelativeLayout>
</ScrollView>
I have the ScrollView so all of the layout always is visible no matter the height of the screen. The problem is that on a very high screen, I still want my imageview to be at the bottom. However, a child of a ScrollView dont seem to have a defined bottom. The View is placed at the top of the layout. How can I solve this problem in a neat way?
I like to know how can i clone a view object which is already there in the view hierarchy, so that it can be added to the same view hierarchy again.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an XML layout with some custom tabs, a heading, and a ProgressBar(main.xml). I wish to add another XML layout(home.xml) to the main.xml layout, as i wish to keep main.xml re-usable for other activity's layouts and simply add things to it as necessary.The problem: after inflating R.layout.home into rootLayout, it seems as though the ProgressBar contained in rootLayout is hidden underneath the content of home.xml.Is there a way to tell certain views(via XML) to float above other views when the layout is constructed in this way?if not, am i forced to use methods such as progressBar.bringToFront() to raise targeted views to the top?what alternatives do i have in z-ordering views when some layouts are constructed using inflation?
