I am trying to build inflate a context menu within the sample Grid View provided on the Android dev site. Eclipse tells me that the referenced items cannot be resolved, if someone could help find where I coded s.th. wrong, that would be great because I am stuck at the moment. Thanks. I posted my entire code below. I get the error message at: if (item.get Item Id() R.id.menu_face book) and the other R.id.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have created an option menu which also has a sub menu. In the sub menu I have a setting for enabling/disabling images in my application based on the application level flag that i change based on the option being clicked.What I am observing is that when i click on the "Menu" and change the settings from enable Images to disable Images. its not reflecting.I have put the debug log and what have been seen is the onOptionCreateMenu method is getting called only one time- first time when i click the "Menu" button. That is the reason the changed sub menu is not getting reflected.My question is that is there a way i can re-create the option menu every time user presses the "Menu Button".
View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like to arrange the menu items in my app so that one item appears in its own line, and the other 3 items appear below it.I know that this is possible because i have seen apps do it.I tried writing a menu xml with linear layouts to arrange the items, but this doesn't work.I have also tried putting them in different groups,but I had no luck with that either.I know that this is possible:i have seen it done.Anyone have any ideas?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got this piece of code from an xml in my settings.apk (SecSettings actually) that contains tutorials on motion settings.
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<PreferenceScreen android:title="@string/motion_tutorial_settings_title" android:key="parent"
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<Preference android:title="@string/turn_over_title" android:key="turn_over" android:summary="@string/turn_over_summary" />
[Code] ......
In there, all the red parts contain tutorials on settings that don't actually work on my device, and for OCD sake, I don't want them appearing in my settings because of it. But simply cutting them out of that file will make the settings app crash whenever i open that menu
So question is: is there a way to hide these settings without impairing their functions?
I just demo'd the Droid X in store today. One thing that annoyed me was having to double tap on things like menu items, when I wasn't used to having to double tap those before. Here is what I'm talking about (take a look as he double taps the "More" icon at 3:34 in the video):

How can I create Spinner with customized items? Normally it is possible to have spinner items with text and checkboxes on the right, but I would like to have one part of the item's text black and the second part gray. I tried to create custom ArrayAdapter for the Spinner but I just can't figure out how to do it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd like to know if it's possible to associate a protocol (for example: 'myapp') to a native application installed on a Blackberry (or Android) so that if a user types in 'myapp://xxx' in a web browser it calls the native application. In this case, how is it possible to achieve it? As far as I understood, it's possible to do it with iphone but I don't know if it's possible with blackberry or android.
View 3 Replies View RelatedDunno if this has been covered and maybe this is a stupid question. I have not had the phone long enough to have much call waiting experiences but the times I did, I noticed I had to press menu and then go thru a menu to "click over" to the other call. This is g=fine and dandy from the comfort of your couch but is not advisable if you are driving a car. Is there a one button shortcut to go to the other call without having to look at a menu?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI developed a List View with a custom adapter (which extends Array Adapter). The problem is that i can't selected or highlighted items. Is there a attribute to fix in the list View Layout or something else?
View 22 Replies View RelatedI thought I knew how to catch list selection events in Android and then I regained consciousness. In my situation, I have a ListView that I populate with a custom view, all of the same class (let's call it the NewsChannel() class). NewsChannel consists of a LinearLayout of ImageViews and TextViews. When the list is displayed, the user may select a NewsChannel item in the list; I want to find out which list item was selected. Also, I registered an onClickListener to one of the TextViews and that works fine: when the text is clicked on, an activity is launched which is looking for the position of the NewsChannel item in the list. So, here's what my code looks like:
1. Registering the onClickListener in the ListActivity:
public class NewsListActivity extends ListActivity {...
public void onCreate(Bundle icicle) { super.onCreate(icicle);
setContentView(R.layout.news_list_format); ListView lv = getListView();
lv.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener()
{ public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view,
int position, long id) {
// When clicked, show a toast with the TextView text item_index = position;
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "item clicked = " + position,
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); }}); ...
2. The layout for the ListView associated with NewsListActivity:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/ android"
android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:background="@drawable/wpaper_tile" >
<ListView android:id="@id/android:list" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:dividerHeight="15dp" android:divider="@android:color/transparent"
android:cacheColorHint="@android:color/transparent" android:scrollbars="none" />
<FrameLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="55dp"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true" android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:background="#88000000"/>
<ImageView android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" android:src="@drawable/phonetop_bg" /> </RelativeLayout>
3. The NewsChannel layout:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:
android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/ android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<include layout="@layout/news_heading_format"
android:id="@+id/news_heading_header"/>
<ImageView android:id="@+id/news_channel_image" android:layout_width="88dp"
android:layout_height="66dp" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_below="@id/news_heading_header" android:padding="10dp" />
<TextView android:id="@+id/news_channel_text" android:lines="4"
android:inputType="textMultiLine" android:layout_toRightOf="@id/news_channel_image"
android:layout_below="@id/news_heading_header" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> </RelativeLayout>
When I run the app, the ItemClickListener is never called. However, if NewsChannel were of a simpler type, say, a single ImageView or TextView embedded in the layout, the callback does get called. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? My whole goal is simply to let the activity launched by NewsChannel (not shown) to find out which instance of NewsChannel it was launched from.
