View 12 RepliesIssue with a custom ROM I've been playing around with in an attempt at customizing it to meet my personal needs.
Basically, the custom ROM installation removes old, unwanted .apk's from the stock image it is replacing. This is done by a script/command in the META-INF->com->google->android->updater-script file. Here's an excerpt as an example:
Code:
run_program("/sbin/busybox", "mount", "/system");
show_progress(1, 100);
package_extract_dir("system", "/system");delete("/system/app/Launcher2.apk");
However, while the script works perfectly to remove the actual apk's/apps from the device, once the custom ROM is loaded, the old shortcuts (to some of the apps that were uninstalled) remain on the homescreen (these shortcuts are placed there by default by the stock ROM). If you try to tap the shortcut, it simply states something to the effect of "this application is not installed on your device". While these "dead" shortcuts can be moved to the trash bin and deleted from the homescreen, it'd be nice if I could make it so the custom ROM installation automatically does this.
I've tried modifying the Launcher2.apk to reflect the changes I am looking for; but to no avail. In the Launcher2 /res/xml/default_workspace.xml file, I am easily able to specify which apps I do want shortcuts placed on the homescreen for during the installation. But - there doesn't seem to be a way for me to issue a command to remove the old, unwanted shortcuts and these "dead" shortcuts are present nonetheless, despite whatever changes I make to the default_workspace.xml (it does add my "new" shortcuts, though).
Any way that this could be done during the actual custom ROM installation process? And where would I add it to (default_workspace.xml, Android Manifest.xml, framework-res.apk, boot.img...
Bookmark and add to my homescreen 60x60 icon does not apprear. Make
<link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="images/iphone.png"/>
Size: 60x60 pixels. tried 8bit and 24bit ping! Does not work. Site is on a localhost and not 'online'.
on http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport if I bookmark and add to my homescreen it works!
Why? They use: <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="/sol/shared/img/iphone-sport.png"/>
Is there any way of having more then 4x4 icons on the on-screen?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've done the searching and nothing has solved my problem and the last time this was brought as far as I can tell was back in December. My issue is that there is no consistent time when this happens. Sometimes it happens as I unlock the homescreen, as I'm exiting out of an application, as I rotate the screen, and even as I'm shifting between home screens. It also happens randomly based off of my last reset. Since it started (about a month ago) it has happened as long as 3 days after my last reset and sometimes as soon as 20 minutes after. I've tried installing the Home++ application but that did not solve the problem either. Does anyone know of a setting or way to bring the icons back without having to reset the phone? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis question might be specific to HTC phones, but I'm not sure. I have various bookmarks for sites with decent webapps that I'd like to have as icons on my homescreen. What I would like is for their icons to be specific to the site (like iOS or BlackBerry), but instead what happens is I get the ugly red HTC Sense bookmark icon for each of them. Any way to get the site-specific icons to appear (or if it's even possible)?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a way to remove apparently names from the homescreen and just have the icons. Anyway to do this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis was originally going to be a post about missing icons. I'll return to that.
I recently installed a (paid) homescreen app called GDE from a guy at XDA developers. It's wonderful, and gives me a choice of the number of homescreens, transition type, and whether the sequence of screens loops or not (appears endless) It works well and is very smooth. I use the box transitions and it's very impressive.
Back to the icons, which will be of interest to anyone who replaces their homescreen app. When I installed GDE, I was basically given 5 blank homescreens. All my shortcuts were gone and had to be re-installed.
Not so bad, because it gave me a chance to re-organize my device. But, I couldn't find my CNN, ESPN, Facebook icons. That's when I started this post, because I thought they were apps, they are not, they are browser favorite shortcuts on the homescreen.
So, if any of you replace your home app and want to restore these, just open your browser, go to favorites, and long hold on the shortcuts you want to install on home.
I'm interesting in writing a custom homescreen and launcher. By launcher, i mean the list of apps that appear when you push the menu button from the homescreen.
Are these two different native applications (homescreen and launcher)? Or is the menu that pops up part of the homescreen application.
Further, It there some Intent I could declare in my app that would instruct android to load my launcher / homescreen app instead of the native one, or would this require me to reimplement from source and build a custom platform?
I've seen a few posts about this but nothing to say definitively (thank god for spell check!) if it's possible or not. On my HTC Legend (HTC Sense with Android 2.1) if you go to add and folder from a homescreen you have a choice of All people, Facebook Phonebook, Phones, Starred (Favorites). Is it possible to create another folder that will hold members of a contact group that I have created? I can create a new empty folder but don't know how to put contacts into this instead of other home screen icons (this would do if I can't use contact groups).

View 12 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if someone could direct me to some good custom icons that I could use with Launcher Pro? I don't use the labels on apps so I would prefer icons that are self explanatory (that don't require labels, just images). I was also thinking of using some custom icons I have on my computer. Do I need to resize them? Or will they automatically shrink down to the proper size?

View 9 Replies View RelatedIt's broken up into 3 Parts: Dock Icons; Home Screen Icons and Label/Group Home Screen Icons. You can find the instructions for Home Screen Icons and Label/Group Icons further down the page.
Here is the link to download the little droid icons, I take no credit for them.

Custom Icons
Below you will find instructions on how to get custom icons onto your Droid X using LauncherPro. There is a different method depending on where or how the icon will be used.
There are 3 different classes of Icons: Dock Icons; Home Screen Icons and Label/Group Home Screen Icons. There are some apps that will be needed, I'm sure there are other apps that will work but I will be using these for the instructions: ASTRO File Manager; AppsOrganizer; and BetterCut.
See the bottom of each section for corresponding pics. The letter in brackets goes with the pic with the same letter.
Dock Icons
There are 2 methods for getting custom icons onto your Droid X dock depending on how you get the icons. The trick is getting the photo Gallery to see the icons. If you are downloading and installing an icon pack app from the Market continue to section 1. If you downloaded the icons to a computer and you're going to install them on the sdcard continue to section 2.
Section 1 - Installing Market Icon Packs to Your Phone
1: Download and install the icon pack as you would any other app.
2: Open ASTRO and open the "dcim" folder(A) that is in the sdcard folder.
3: Press the "menu" button, "new folder"(B), "directory"(C) then enter a name (I'm using ICONZ) then press "create"(D). You should then see an ICONZ folder below the camera folder.
4: Press the menu button again and select "tools"(E), "Application Manager/Backup"(F), then select the app that contains your icons and press "backup"(G).
5: Press the "back" button twice and you should see a "backups" folder(H), open it, then select "apps", select your icon pack, then "browse file"(I), then the "assets" folder, then long press on the "icons" folder, select "edit"(J), then "copy"(K).
6: Press the "back" button 4 times (or press "home"(L) once on the top of ASTRO) and you should be back at the screen containing the backups, dcim and several other folders that are on the sdcard. Open the "dcim"(M) folder, then open your "ICONZ" folder, press the "menu" button, "edit"(N) then "paste"(O). You should then have an "icons" folder which is in your "ICONZ" folder. Press "home" and continue to section 3.
Section 2. - Installing Icons From a Computer to a Phone
(This is pretty basic so I won't be posting pics)
1: Download the icon pack to your computer.
2: Plug your Droid X into the computer with the USB cable.
3: Select "USB Mass Storage" on your phone when USB connection pops up, press "OK".
4: When the "AutoPlay" pops up on your computer select "open folder to view files", then open the "dcim" folder and create an "ICONZ" folder.
5: Copy your downloaded icons from the computer to the "ICONZ" folder, then "safely remove hardware". You can now unplug your phone.
Section 3. - Placing Icons in The Dock
1. Long press on the dock icon that you want to change(P) and select one of the Shortcuts listed or press Applications and choose from one of your Apps, I'll use "Dialer" or phone as an example.(Q)
2. Once you've selected the app or shortcut press "Custom Icon"(R), then the Gallery should open. Select "folders(S)" and then select your "icons" folder(T). Next you will see all of your icons listed, select the icon you want (U) and it should appear on the dock..
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to change the rest of the dock icons.
I am looking for a website that changes your notification bar icons for you.
You upload the framwork.apk to them and select the set of icons you want and all the colors and stuff and then they send you a new file that you flash in after you flash a ROM.
The website was something that really didnt make sense, and would never be able to figure it out, even through google search. I installed Win 7 today and didnt check my history before I did it.
i have a custon rom on my phone, and the custom icons are not good for me, but the rest of the rom are GREAT., how i get the stock icons? just delete the modded apk and build in the original or what i have to do? i want use a tool like desktop visualizer because i will change the icons in drawer too. and i will use the stock launcher.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if it was possible to use the folderorganizer widgets with custom icons inside? How would I go about doing this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm sure that many of you are aware of this, but for those who aren't, you can now have Custom Icons on your Droid X without the use of any special Launchers. The program that allows you to do this is known as Desktop Visualizer. If you have either downloaded any Custom Icon pack, or simply transferred some custom icons over from your Computer, Desktop Visualizer will allow you to choose the Custom icon that you desire, and then choose the Application or task that you want it to replace.
The really neat thing about this is the ability to create several different sizes of your downloaded Custom Icons. Simply long press on an available space on your home screen and choose from one of 4 different Icon sizes.
Please note that the "Small SS" size creates a smaller icon than the "Small" size, even though it comes first in the list. Also, be aware that some of your Custom Icons may appear sharper than others when enlarged. I assume that these were created at a higher resolution, or whatever the terminology might be.
I have customized a few apps, all available if anyone wants them
Handcent
