Android : 3 Items In Top Row And 1 Icon In Second Row?
May 31, 2009Is there a way i can say 3 items in the top row and 1 icon in the second row?

Is there a way i can say 3 items in the top row and 1 icon in the second row?
I'm very new to Android and Java development, searching and reading various tutorials and using different parts of code from around the internet, trying to make sense of it as I go. Currently I have a list created with 4 list items, what I'd like to do is assign a different icon to each of these list items, however, I've no idea how to do it, nor do I know what to search for. Here's the code:
main.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/ android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent">
<ListView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:id="@+id/mainListView"> </ListView>
</LinearLayout> row.xml
<TextView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android
android:id="@+id/rowTextView" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:padding="10dp" android:textSize="16sp" >
</TextView> FirstList.java
import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.Arrays;
import android.app.Activity; import android.os.Bundle; import android.widget.ArrayAdapter; import android.widget.ListView; public class FirstList extends Activity {
private ListView mainListView; private ArrayAdapter<String> myListAdapter;
/** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main);
mainListView = (ListView) findViewById( R.id.mainListView);
String[] myList = new String[] {"List 1", "List 2", "List 3", "List 4"};
ArrayList<String> listObjects = new ArrayList<String>();
listObjects.addAll( Arrays.asList(myList));
myListAdapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.row, listObjects);
mainListView.setAdapter(myListAdapter);
} }
Had no problem getting my phone to play nice with our exchange server at work and emails are coming/going fine.
However, there are some configuration items I have a big issue with as it relates to the 'look' of the email (coming from a BlackBerry).
1. Is there any way to have a single folder show my received items and sent items combined? My BB had this and it was very useful.
2. How can I edit the way my folders are displayed at the top horizontal bar? The sidescrolling folder display is awkward, it puts my inbox first (good) but then all subsequent folders are listed alphabetically; it pays no attention to their order on my desktop and also shows sub-folders of other files. Any way to change this?
3. Is there a way to change the way emails show as unread? The difference b/n read and unread is only a shade of grey, and difficult to see outside.
I have following queries. How can I display icon in Signal Area(what it is called?) ? I'm just getting my feet wet with Android and have built a UI that contains a TabHost with three tabs. Each tab is powered by its own Activity. The first Tab contains a listview with a prepopulated set of rows and is built from a custom ArrayAdapter.
The problem I'm running into is that none of the ListView rows are tappable. In other words, when I tap on them there is no orange selection. If I use the scroll ball on my Nexus One it will select, but any touch gestures don't seem to be responding. All the UI is being handled using XML files with a main.xml housing the TabHost -> LinearLayout -> TabWidget/FrameLayout and a nearby_activity.xml file containing my ListView UI
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"

How to add items to a ListView in Android during runtime?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to build inflate a context menu within the sample Grid View provided on the Android dev site. Eclipse tells me that the referenced items cannot be resolved, if someone could help find where I coded s.th. wrong, that would be great because I am stuck at the moment. Thanks. I posted my entire code below. I get the error message at: if (item.get Item Id() R.id.menu_face book) and the other R.id.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using an ArrayAdapter<CharSequence> to populate the items to list in a android.widget.Spinner. That works all fine. But now I want to keep the list of items dynamic, i.e. I want to be able to add/remove items from the selection list at runtime. However, when I call adapter.add(item) or adapter.remove(item) I always get a UnsupportedOperationException, even though the Javadocs of the ArrayAdapter class describe these two methods as to be usable for exactly that intended purpose.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a list where i basically need a hierarchy of items. Any children of an item would be padded slightly, as to easily distinguish their parent item. How could this be achieved? Note that i could, if needed, make each parent show no children, and then when the parent is clicked, a new list containing all of it's children is loaded. This however requires more clicking to display information than i would prefer. Also, the items themselves will contain graphics and whatnot (to show a drag'n'drop button, etc), so it would be best if it visually appeared as if the item itself had a margin, rather than the contents of the item being padded.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Android, I want to present the user with a list. When an item on the list is selected some action is performed, and this list item is no longer selectable. It is also 'grayed out' or the like to indicate that it cannot be selected the next time the list is displayed. I have seen the isSelectable() override in Adapter, but I believe this causes the item to be treated as a separator, which causes visual problems. And I have not found a way to 'gray out' an item.

I know I can uninstall the ones I have downloaded and installed but how do I remove some of the others that are do not have the option to uninstall. View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a listview that's using a custom adapter. I want to dynamically show/remove items from the listview. I've tried everything inside the getView() method in my view adapter. I've tried doing setVisiblity(View.GONE) on the view I'm returning. And it infact doesn't draw the view, but it allocates space for the view and it's just a blank black space.
Is this even possible to set items in listview invisible?
I have a 800 kb xml file on a server. I download it, and parse with a SAXParser.
And then i add all item elements to my SQLLite db on the phone.

we have an XML file placed in the res/xml folder containing our preferences.
Is it possible at runtime to add new items to the preferences.
Example:
The user starts the app and the preferences consists of:
America
- New York - Los Angeles - Chicago
Where all the cities are CheckBoxPreferences.
Then the user performs some actions in the application and this triggers that two new cities are added to the preferences:
America
- New York - Los Angeles - Chicago - Seatlle - Washington
Anyone that know if it possible at all and how to do it?

Im using a custom listView with a Title and a Subtitle where you can read a brief explanation of the item.
For each item on the list, im displaying an alertDialog to select an option (different for each case). When the option is selected, i want to change the Subtitle for the option selected by the user.
This is what i tried:
