HTC EVO 4G :: Camera Doesn't Work / Displays Blank Screen

Oct 26, 2010

Yesterday I was listening to Pandora and I wanted to snap a picture with my EVO, so I hit the 'Home' button and then opened the Camera app. After that the little camera icon showed in the middle of the screen for a second or two and disappeared. Next the screen was blank. I also tried the camcorder and the screen was also blank. I've done many resets/pulling the battery out and I still have no luck. Any ideas as to what is causing my camera to not work at all? The only way to exit out of the blank screen is to press the 'Home' button on the phone.

Android :: Back Button Doesn't Go To Previous Activity

Jul 4, 2010

I have two activities. The first is a list where the user selects one of the items which takes them to a second activity showing the details of the item they selected. When the user clicks the back button I want the app to return to the first activity.

Is there anything special i need to do to make this happen?

Right now when I click the back button from the second activity it exits the app just like the home button would.

Here is how I am starting the Second Activity. startActivity(new Intent(getApplication(), SecondActivity.class)); finish();

Android : Back Button On Emulator When Multiple Activities Are There In Single Tab

Oct 13, 2010

I have created two tabs, say TAB1 and TAB2. For TAB1, i have loaded one Activity, say ActivityOne, into TAB1 as Code...

When we click on that button ActivityOne_One will be launched under same TAB1. In this application i have two problems:
1) If i want to go back to ActivityOne under same TAB1 by using traditional BACK button on emulator it is not working..
2)ActivityOne_One is launching with no animation(like sliding from right to left) effect.

If anyone know about any one of these, give your advice.

Android :: How To Override The Back Button So It Doesn't Finish() My Activity

Jun 29, 2010

I currently have an Activity that when it gets displayed a Notification will also get displayed in the Notification bar.

This is so that when the User presses home and the Activity gets pushed to the background they can get back to the Activity via the Notification.

The problem arises when a User presses the back button, my Activity gets destroyed but the Notification remains as I want the user to be able to press back but still be able to get to the Activity via the Notification. But when a USER tries this I get Null Pointers as its trying to start a new activity rather than bringing back the old one.

So essentially I want the Back button to act the exact same as the Home button and here is how I have tried so far:

CODE:.........

However the above code still seems to allow my Activity to be destroyed, How can I stop my Activity from being destroyed when the back button is pressed?

Android :: Multiple Back Button Clicks Needed To Exit Application

Jul 30, 2010

In my current application design, I have an activity class application.java (which starts on launching the application), and it does not have a layout(UI screen). I call another class called servicebind.java from the onCreate method of my 1st class. here I bind to the local server (bindServer()). i call back the application class through an intent. Once I am back to my application class, I call my activity class called welcome.java which has a layout/UI. When I run this application, I am able to see the welcome screen. But the problem is, when I click on the back button, I get a black screen with just the title on top. I have to hit back button 3 times to exit the application.

The reason I see from the logs is that, the 1st 2 activity classes (application.java and services.java) does not get destroyed unless I hit the back button. So the 1st time I hit back button, the welcome activity gets destroyed. the next back button destroys the servicebind class and final back destroys the application class. Is the reason because these classes dont have a UI to display in the onCreate method. I do not want to change my design where I bind the service in the servicebind class and call the welcome activity in the application class.

Android :: Emulate Back Button In Multi-view TabActivity

Jun 5, 2010

I have a TabActivity with several tabs. Each tab corresponds to a specific view, and those views may further switch to other views. For example, one of my tabs displays RSS feed list, after user clicks one of the RSS feed, it will switch to a view displaying a list of articles, and after user clicks one of the titles, a full article view will be displayed.I'm going to add support for "back" button in my application. For instance, in a full article view, after user presses the "back" button, it should switch back to the article list view. And if user presses it the "back" button again, my application should switch back to the feed list view.My idea is to maintain a Stack<View> during navigation, and every time user presses the "back" button, the program will pop a View out of the stack, and set it as the current view. But I would like to know how to set current view in TabHost.

Android :: Activity Which Downloads Data In Background With Service - Doesn't Get Destroyed On Hitting Back Button

Nov 9, 2010

I need to develop an application with downloads the data at the background and update about the progress in the front.

I guess this can be achieved using services and activity and passing data in between the. But, what I need to do is even if I hit back button and then start the activity again. It should check if the service is running or not. If service is not running it should start one else it should display the data from running service.

Something like music player where music is played by a service at a background and activity displays the information. Even on browsing through other activities of the application or hitting back, state of the music player is maintained.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Using Back Button While On The Internet Doesn't Default To Last Place

Jun 18, 2010

The problem - when viewing a webpage such as craigslist, if I click into an ad and then go back to the previous page my location on the previous page always defaults close to the top of the page instead of that last link I clicked. This is a very annoying problem if your a hardcore craigslist junkie like me because you can be you have to scroll back thru all of the ads you looked at just to get back to where you originally were.

Trying to fix the problem using two kinds of soft resets, a hard reset, resets followed by reinstallations of 2.1 ,etc etc, I finally went to a sprint store to get it checked out and the rep had a Hero that did the same damn thing! Apparently he didn't have a problem with his phone doing this because he just kept giving me some dumb blank stare.

1.5 never had a problem with web pages forgetting their locations when using the back button. Yet I haven't seen anybody else complain about this. Is anybody else able to recreate this problem? One thing to look for, after I reset the phone, reinstalled 2.1 or cleared the internet cache, the phone will do fine for a few minutes, recognizing pages like its supposed to, but after usually 4-6 times of clicking links the phone goes right back to forgetting locations.

I upgraded to 2.1. With 1.5 I had a phone I loved that worked fine and the only problem I had was a laggy phone-book, now I have a phone with a laggy dialer and that doesn't do web pages correctly. BTW, it does this with all browsers, not just the stock browser and Dolphin.

Android :: Admob Ad Never Displays In View

In the logcat, i see the following:

The AdListener is indicating that it is unable to retrieve the ad. I have an active data connection, plus I am in Test Mode, so it is supposed to always show an ad, according to the admob wiki. There are no errors in the logcat, nor is the application force closing at all.

I got a response from admob, but all they said was i was creating the aeveiw twice, which I am not

Android :: Draw Multiple Shapes Using Loop - Canvas

Aug 7, 2010

I am very new to android development and have been trying to draw a square comprised of multiple smaller rectangles of different colours... Like a Mosaic essentially. Basically at the moment I am reading values from a file which assigns the colour to the smaller Rects. I am using a pair of nested for loops to try to draw the small Rects sequentially, line by line. However when the program finishes there is only one small Rect drawn which is the last one to be drawn and its colour corresponds to the first value read from the file. Here is some of my code to show you what I mean:

public SnapshotDraw(Context context) {
super(context);

for(int a = 0; a < 63; a++){
for(int b = 0; b < 63; b++){
fileName = PREFIX + "2" + EXTENSION;..............

Android :: Can I Use Wrap TabHost Containing MapView Displays AdMob View Below It

Sep 18, 2010

I'm very new to Android (like 2 days), but I'm experienced with other layout toolkits. I'm trying to put an AdView below a TabHost, and it seems that I can either get the TabWidget or the AdView to display correctly, but never both.

First, here's an ASCII art version of what I'm trying to accomplish:

--------------------------------------------
| Tab 1 | Tab 2 |
--------------------------------------------
MapView when tab 1 is selected

--------------------------------------------
AdView that stays no matter what tab
--------------------------------------------

As you can see, I'm trying to get the AdView outside the TabWidget or FrameLayout. I want it to be below the whole tabhost contents.

Here's the layout I've got before adding the AdView...

Unfortunately, in that one, my MapView in the first tab puts the Zoom controls on top of the AdView. Is there some simple layout I'm missing? Cuz I can get the TabWidget to wrap_content for height, or the AdView to wrap_content for height, but only when they go above the "@android:id/tabcontent."

Anything below the tab content gets eaten by the MapView.

Android :: View.onDraw() Always Clean Canvas?

Mar 11, 2010

I am trying to draw an animation. To do so I have extended View and overridden the onDraw() method. What I would expect is that each time onDraw() is called the canvas would be in the state that I left it in and I could choose to clear it or just draw over parts of it (This is how it worked when I used a SurfaceView) but each time the canvas comes back already cleared. Is there a way that I can not have it cleared? Or maybe save the previous state into a Bitmap so I can just draw that Bitmap and then draw over top of it?

Android : Can I Create A View / Canvas That Is Not Rectangular?

Sep 29, 2010

I have a view that is round and hovering above (-> in z-axis direction coming out of the screen) the main content. When the someone taps the screen I want either the main content to be selected or the view hovering above, when it covers the main view.

So far that works perfectly. I have a round shaped item on a transparent canvas. Meaning you can see everything of the background that is outside of that circle. However, you cannot select it, because it is still the hovering canvas, just with a transparent paint.

Now I'm wondering, to solve this issue, if it is possible to make the view/canvas itself round shaped?

Update

I added an image for better explanation what I try to achieve.
