Sprint HTC Hero :: Upload / Share Large Video?

Jan 17, 2010

I have a problem with a video that I am trying to upload or share.I can share via facebook or gmail, but am stuck right now because it says that the file is too large.It's about 2 min of video, so I don't know how big that is since I cant find the actual size anywhere.Any idea how I can get it off the phone if I don't have an sd card reader?I guess I could mount the phone to my laptop and copy to my regular comp, but I was hoping there was an easier way to do it?

HTC EVO 4G :: Can't Upload Large Videos Via 3G Or 4G

Oct 5, 2010

I have done some searching on this problem and the consensus is that there is some sort of a cap on uploading videos to Youtube that are larger than about 10 mb. If you try to upload a larger video Evo then says it is waiting to use WiFi to do the upload. This seems like a Sprint cap to me to prevent their network from having to handle the bandwidth of uploading anything but small videos. (what do we pay the extra $10 for? That's for another discussion.).SO, now that I am rooted, does anyone know how to change the settings and remove the cap so that I can upload larger videos via 3G or 4G without having to use a WiFi connection? I am rooted and on stock 3.29.651.5 Android 2.2. I do not want to use flash a custom ROM just for this ability.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Sending Pictures Via MMS - Size Too Large?

Apr 24, 2010

It seems like whenever I try to send pictures to others via MMS, it won't let me because the pictures are too large. I know I can have my Hero take pictures it smaller resolutions, but I wouldn't want low-res pictures unless I would want to send them via MMS.

The thing is, a lot of times I dont know ahead of time that a picture I am about to take with the Hero will be used to send in an MMS. So its hard to make the decision to take in a low res beforehand. I could just switch the Hero to take all pics in low res, but then what about all the pics I don't need to send via MMS? They will all be low resolution.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Problems Sending Large Files

Dec 22, 2009

I've been havng trouble emailing pictures with my HTC hero ("unable to send mail" notices) and wonder if others have had similar experiences. The problem seems to be worse with anything greater than the lowest resolution. Even 400kbyte pictures are a problem. I assume this is just a file transfer problem, not a camera app problem (the app from which the file is mailed). Mails w/o attachments go thru 100% of the time.

I spoke with someone at sprint today, and the first thing they told me was that I need to have at least three bars of signal strength, then I was told that higher resolution pictures can't be sent from the hero.

Given that Sprint does not have more that two bars in most of northern new jersey, this is a bit of a problem. If this is true, I don't think they should be calling this a data service.

For the most part, internet browsing and even video like youtube and TED work fine, and most the time I can get an EVDO connection.

Playing with it a bit, it looks to me like the issue is maintaining a solid data link to upload the file. I'd expect better with a TCP/IP connection, as I've had some experience designing that sort of thing. Late at night, if I get two bars and set the phone down so the signal strength does not waver, I can generally send even a 5 mpixel picture that's nearly 1000k.

I've tried this with the mail set to allow up to 1000k transfers and with no limit on transfer size, and that has no effect.

Some specific questions I have are:

1) Are others having this problem?

2) Anybody have a solution?

3) Anybody notice if it's network congestion related?

4) Anybody know anything about messing with the TCP/IP settings like timeouts and retrys to hold a connection on a spotty rf network?

Android :: Service Path To Choose For Implementing Large Upload?

Jul 17, 2010

I am trying to implement a RESTful API in which I have to upload files that are relatively large for a mobile platform. The upload could take anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes.I would like my application to be completely usable while the upload takes place. I've been doing some research and I've come across a few methods from which I can't decide which is the correct solution to my problem.Using an IntentService -- handles the worker thread so I don't have to. Using my own type of Service-- still need to implement an AsyncTask to handle the large process. Implement an AsyncTask in a singleton file that would allow me to do all the work there but without using the service class. My question is which method is the best -- if one isn't listed but is a more apt solution to my problem then I would appreciate suggestions.After researching all these methods I am still also confused on one thing. Lets say I upload a 2MB files, but I want to know when it is done. For example, lets say I have a service that uploads an image and returns and imageID -- I need to be able to know when that service returns an imageID -- process that and then move on to the next upload until the rest are finished.

HTC EVO 4G :: Video Received MMS Errors / Video Too Large To View On Device?

I've only had my EVO for 4 days now but I can't open any videos sent to me via messaging. My husband has an Instict and sent me a 20 second video of our daughter and when I tried to open it, I got a photo that said "Video too large to view on this device". The video is not that large so I'm not sure what's up.Is there anyone else that is having this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? Android :: Best Approach To Transfer Large Video Files Into Byte Array?

Apr 8, 2010

Please could anyone suggest an approach for transferring a >2MB video from a ContentResolver into a Bytestream, without running out of memory?
See question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2599305/android-outofmemoryerror-w...

Here's the current code, which throws an OutOfMemoryError on the byteBuffer.write(buffer, 0, len) line when transferring large videos:

// get bytestream to upload videoByteArray = getBytesFromFile(cR, fileUriString);
public static byte[] getBytesFromFile(ContentResolver cR, String fileUriString) throws IOException { Uri tempuri = Uri.parse(fileUriString);
InputStream is = cR.openInputStream(tempuri);
byte[] b3 = readBytes(is); is.close(); return b3;
