View 1 Replies View RelatedIn my activity I show the camera preview on a surfaceView. It works perfectly fine on Nexus One and HTC Desire, but on Samsung Galaxy S I see strange lines, weird proportions and everything three times. see the Screenshot below.
The issue seems to be similar to this one: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2053440/camera-preview-on-androd-strange-lines-on-1-5-version-of-sdk but none of the comments there helped. I tried to swap height, width for the camera parameters, but not much of a difference.
(Side note: my activity is always in landscape mode, fixed. I have that fix in my manifest as screenOrientation parameters, in case that matters somehow).

Deal breaker for me. I'll be keeping my DINC for a little while longer.
I have an app which uses the Camera, sending the preview to a SurfaceHolder. Everything works fine on the HTC Desire that I have been developing on, but when I run it on a Samsung Galaxy S the image from the preview is rotated 90 degrees.
The code attempts to match the best Size returned from the parameters.getSupportedPreviewSizes(), with the width and height of the Surface (as passed into SurfaceChanged as width and height).
(the image is also rotated on the Galaxy when an image is taken from the app). Has anyone else had problems with the preview on the Galaxy? Or better yet got around the problems?
Today I tried the sample code to get the camera preview working
(http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/ApiDemos/src/com/example/android/apis/graphics/CameraPreview.html)
But the image looks distorted when I start the application on my Galaxy S.

View 10 Replies View RelatedSo, is there really no way to set the native messaging app so that it WON'T show a preview of a text message in the notification bar?
View 5 Replies View RelatedCan SMS Preview be eliminated? Everytime an SMS comes in, it shows a preview on top of the application you're are working on or the homescreen, AND also as a ticker on top.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI love using the Engadget app on my Desire to keep up with daily news, but no matter what I try I cannot watch the embedded videos within the stories.....
The ones that link to YouTube are fine as you can choose the browser or the YouTube app.
But their native videos don't play for me. I currently get the choice of viewing through double twist or streaming media player, both of which say "Sorry, this video cannot be played".
Anyone any idea what format these endgadget videos are in? And how I can get the engadget app to choose a player capable of playing them?
I have downloaded a picture attachment from my Gmail that is an 'unwanted picture' which I opened when I went to Gallery/Download folder. It is currently the default preview picture now for the Download folder. I've already deleted this picture from the Download folder, but anytime I download a new picture attachment, it still uses the 'unwanted' pic as the folder preview.I've even tried manually deleting the Download folder using AstroFile Manager.Everything I've tried doesn't seem to work.I desperately need help because currently I'm not able to download any picture from my Gmail account without that stupid picture showing up as the preview for the Download folder.

Engadget Hands On Here
So what do we now know? No 32GB internal, just 1GB (but shipped with 8GB SD). No OLED, good ol' TFT. No 1080p recording (was far too good to be true).
Biggest Dissapointment? Android 1.6, not 2.0
Other than that, all the rumors seemed to shape up. I looks good on paper, the hands on was dissapointing to see it in such an unfinished state. I think I will have to reserve judgement till it smartens itself up a little more.

I know it's not necessarily completely Eris related, but I figured some may want to read through what people are saying.
How would you change HTC's Sense? -- Engadget
When connecting my Galaxy-S to the Samsung Kies software, my telephone shows up with an incorrect telephone number. I did change the sim-card (and subsequent number) since first using it, but I never logged intio Kies with the old sim-card.The phone is rooted. How do I get Kies (or my Samsung phone) to show my current telephone number? In the phone properties (Menu, Settings, About, Status) the same wrong number is shown. When calling, the receiver sees the correct telephone number. So the issue is not operator related but telephone related.

View 19 Replies View RelatedI have configured my Samsung Galaxy S using my normal Gmail account. This has helped me to sync the Google Contacts with my phone.
Following are my questions:
1. Right now I have about a thousand google contacts synced to my phone. I want to remove them at one go. I know how to disable them from being appearing in contact list, but I want to know if I can delete them without going to factory settings.
2. I am using three applications (a) Gmail (b) Contacts (3) MVOIP. I want to know if there is a way that following combination works:
a- Google contacts appear on Gmail app
b- Google contacts (with phone numbers) and normal phone contacts appear on "Contacts"
c- Google contacts (with phone numbers) and normal phone contacts appear on "MVOIP application".
I know how to do
(a) - By synchronising google contacts,
(b) - by choosing display options
(c) - I do not know how to handle this and I want help.
I really like the samsung wave phone design, very stylish and slick! but i dont like the bada os on the other hand i like galaxy s os but i dont like its phone design, so iphone like.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am using Galaxy S i9000 for over a month now and have noticed that videos getting automatically deleted from the phone. This has been happening for quite sometime now, earlier thought it might be overwritten while transferring but there on always made sure that the data is copied by browsing phone as a mass storage.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAs i just said before, I was updating my Galaxy S I9000 when it just got to the last notch on updating, and it failed. Now my phone when i turn it on, Goes to a screen with a phone then *!* warning sign to computer. What do i need to do here?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was originally going to get either the HTC Hero or Motorola Droid but found out they are both CMDA. and the Milestone is out of my budget. People have been suggesting to get the Samsung Galaxy S, that's also out of my budget and looks too much like an iPhone. So i stumbled upon these two phones.I'm leaning more towards the Spica because it has superior battery life, and 800mhz compared to the 528mhz the i7500 has. and it can also play DivX.What's making it a difficult decision is the i7500 has an AMOLED Screen. It can display 16,777,216 Colors while the Spica can only display 65,536 Colors I'm not too sure if that will make a difference. Also it has 5mp w/LED Flash while Spica is only 3.2.One phone has a little of both. This will be my first Android phone I'm coming from a Sony Ericsson W995.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently picked up a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate (Android 2.1) on Rogers Wireless. I've been having an issue with the wifi on it, it only works intermittently when I'm at home. It will connect to my network without issues, but none of the data-enabled apps can access anything, they just time out. While this is happening my old iPhone (recent android convert) and my Nintendo Wii are able to connect flawlessly. This ONLY happens when I'm at home on my own network from what I've seen, when I'm on the wifi at my work everything works fine. Has anyone seen issues like this or have any suggestions as to what may be causing it? FYI I have tried different wifi channels, currently my router is setup to use TKIP on WPA2 for encryption.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis folder includes screen shots that are used for Internet Browser bookmarks. It also includes screen shots of web pages that I did not choose to bookmark. When I clear cache while in "Internet" in "Manage Applications" it does not remove these jpg files that are not being used for bookmarks. When I clear everything while in Internet app (in settings) it does not remove these jpg files either. It also does not remove them from within the HistoryEraser app. The only way I can remove the jpg files is with Astro or when connected to PC. I have to go through them and erase jpgs that I do not want there.
There were 72 jpg files in that directory and they go all the way back to when I got phone (on 4/29). I have only added 5 bookmarks myself during that time. They do not take up a lot of space but I just don't want them there.
Good review of the Nexus One from Engadget. My favorite line (I've been saying this for a while) following:
"It's a good Android phone, but not the last word -- in fact, if we had to choose between this phone or the Droid right now, we would lean towards the latter."
Full review here: Nexus One review -- Engadget
They compare it to the Droid a few times, specifically the screen, the lack of a physical keyboard, overall design and the network.
My phone was advertised on ebay as being simlocked to T mobile. However I quickly discovered it wasn't when my Orange Sim worked in it and no T mobile apps or logos appeared on my phone. I already have a Samsung Glaxaxy from Orange so instantly knew that my new phone from ebay was not up to date.As you can see one of my phones is running the latest firmware but the other one isn't AND also says it cannot be updated. What is going on? Has the seller messed with my phone or something?I am not interested in getting Froyo on either of my phones. I will get that when it is officially released. All I want is the ebay phone to be able to be updated. I have tried everything suggested on this forum including changing the product code. I tried to change it on the phone, no product codes were listed as a choice, I also changed the registry but nothing works. Have I got a dud phone because surely my T Mobile phone (which somehow allows an orange sim to work) can get JM3 update by now?
