Samsung Moment :: Recent Update To Fix Airplane Mode
Sep 25, 2010
I woke this morning to a prompt on my phone saying there was an update available to fix the airplane mode issues as well as other issues with the Samsung Moment. Figuring it to be a good idea I went ahead and downloaded it. It wasn't until some hours later when I started using the phone sideways with the keyboard not out that I noticed the screen kept timing out. It continued to do it each time I used it this way. Has anyone else been experiencing this issue or is my phone just special? When will these bugs be fixed? I am starting to lose patients with the phone.

For those of you familiar with this problem, it's when your Moment's signal bars displays an "x" but is stuck in AIRPLANE MODE. When you hold down the END button to pull up the 3 item menu you see this (note that it says AIRPLANE MODE IS ON):
Silent Mode
(Sound is ON)
Airplane Mode
(Airplane Mode is ON)
Power Off
So I battery pulled the phone...didn't work. I then did the VOLUME UP/CALL/END button hold down trick to bring up the root menu and did the Master Reset (which took my phone back to stock + wiped out all of my apps and data so BACKUP YOUR PHONE FIRST):
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Baseband Version: S:M900.8.OS.DI06
Kernel Version: 2.6.29
Build Number: ECLAIR.DJ07
...didn't work
I then went into the root menu again and did the REBOOT, still nothing
I then proceeded to get mad and hit the phone a few times and BANG, the signal came back and has been back since (2 days running).
Is there something in the hardware configuration I can change to fix this lock-up issue? If I open up the phone, is there something I can do to fix this? Please someone help...obviously my solution won't last as a fix

(Thread reboot due to 2.1 update)Mods, please delete any comments in this thread up to 5/14 if possible. Any old issues from 1.5 no longer seem applicable to the phone now that 2.1 is official...
- Camera preview does not display full scene that is captured in the image, especially noticeable in Google Goggles
- Phone will sometimes dial random contacts instead of the desired one when making a call to a contact with multiple stored numbers
- Pandora freezes phone (requiring battery pull) if headphones or power plug pulled out during playback
- Screen sometimes comes on with no input from user, draining battery
- Phone still has Airplane mode issue (may be hardware?)
- Proximity sensor is either broken by 2.1 or has a bug: screen stays on during calls and will sometimes turn off during use, requiring a finger over sensor to see screen.

Do not leave wifi enabled. Thats it. Only use wifi as needed and immediately turn it off. If you leave it on you can go airplabe mode 2-3 x a day. Let me know, but i know it works for my samsung moment.

Switching off Wi-Fi via an application (in this case WiFi On/Off or Power Manager) turns the phone into Airplane Mode = No Cellular Voice or Data. Cure..turn off Airplane Mode under settings and cycle power on phone.

I purchased this phone 2 days ago and since returned it for full refund. It would enter airplane mode and the only way to get out of the mode was to remove battery and then restart. That always didn't work either. This was unacceptable for 200 dollars. The battery was also a big ? It seemed that the battery life was non-existant. I give this phone an E on a grading scale. "E" for effort. Will wait for next Sprint Android phone. That might be a while.

i understand this might be a known issue (radio crash after froyo update). anybody know what to do?rooted my phone awhile ago... upgraded to Froyo a couple days ago (leaked FROYO.DJ29) and things were moving along pretty well. today while the phone was sitting inactive, it decided to go into airplane mode.the last thing it did was try to download a google maps update.i'm completely unable to get out of airplane mode. if i unselect it, it says "turning on wireless connections." but never finishes that. resetting doesn't help. taking the battery out doesn't help.in fact, the date on the phone reset to December 31, 2004.

When I go to bed at night, I set my phone to airplane mode (if I set an alarm), or just turn it off. It really stops the overnight battery drain.

I was just wondering if there are any apps that take advantage of GPS while in airplane mode? I was really hoping the reason why apps like Maps or Google Sky didn't work without a network connection because all that data could not be stored on the phone's internal memory. Now that we can move apps to the SD card, are there any apps out there that work with the cell radio off? Or do you think we will see more of this? The only reason I ask is because I travel out of the country alot and it sure would be nice to be able to use an app like Google Maps when it would be most useful.PS.when I use the "GPS Test" app in airplane mode, the phone is seeing plenty of satellites at least 10.Also it would be nice to be able to use Google Translate when it would be most useful trying to speak the language in another country although I realize that is totally unrelated to GPS but it is related to apps2sd just irritating that it doesn't work without a network connection again, I would assume that the network connection is needed for data storage purposes? why not store it on the SD card it is only text in this case.

I spend a good two nights a week at a good friend's house of which I don't get a cell signal at his house. I'm wondering if I can turn on airplane mode, then turn on wifi (which does work, I tried) and still get calls/texts through google voice through the wifi? Does anybody have experience with this?

Sorry for my English, I use the Google translator. I ask about a small application that I'm doing. This is a custom control panel with the things I most use my own phone, you know, something to personalize it a bit I put a direct button to call my home, a shortcut to the music player, another for a given e-mail address, etc.Now I want to put a button to turn on airplane mode to at night, but this is where I'm confused. I found a lot about AIRPLANE_ MODE_CHANGED, which I understand is used to detect changes in airplane mode, but can not get anything to work, or what I find or what I do or do nothing or give forced closure. At this point I should clarify that I'm using the permissions of the manifest (android.permission. WRITE_SETTINGS, android. permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS) I really do not want a button that I change the status, what I want is a button that simply activate an airplane mode. Someone would have an explanation or example of how I can do this?

Airplane mode disables bluetooth and I can't use my bluetooth stereo headphones on the plane. I have looked and I can't find a widget that will disable the cellular radio without disabling the Bluetooth. Since many planes have WiFi Internet now, it should be okay to use bluetooth which uses the same 2.4GHz frequency. Does anyone know of a widget that will disable the cellular service without disabling the bluetooth radio?

The part I don't like it that it beeps when it gets the 4g signal with notifications about emails and stuff. Anyone know how to fix it.

I have done lots of research on this, and Im confused at what to do.This is my first android phone, im trying to figure it out.I have had sprint for a few months, and coverage inside my house is terrible. Dropped calls, late texts, slow internet on my Blackberry Tour.I got the Evo, so that i could use WiFi. But, im concerned that the low signal is killing my battery. Its been a lot worse, but at the moment im at 37% Time without signal.Ive researched and found a few things:
1- I dialed *#*#4636#*#* and switched to CDMA Auto Prl
2- Also, I use WiFi while at home, but i cant turn on airplane mode, because i need to answer some calls and some texts. However, leaving airplane mode off, im concerned it will kill the battery faster while its searching for signal.
Im thinking of calling sprint and asking for the 'Airrave'.Would that fix the time with out signal, give me better reception, and save the battery?

ive seen alot of posts in some threads with people thinking official standby numbers are done in airplane mode. i have some proof that says otherwise. sry about the blur took them with my evo in bad light
8 days from 100% to 85%. this is just a post about official standby numbers are not done in airplane mode, otherwise they would show way higher numbers

Anyone know of an app that will automatically put my phone into airplane mode? I frequently go in and out of secure facilities throughout my work day and I often forget to put my phone in airplane mode, (using the widget), causing serious battery drain. Is there an app that will do it for me after not haveing a signal for a certain period of time?

After updating to 2.2 on tmobile when it eventually came to us how ever many weeks ago, all seemed fine untill the phone rebooted and turned back on in airplane mode - try as I did, I couldnt turn it off, none off the different ways to do it seemed to work (home screen widget, long hold on on/off button, settings-wireless and networks-airplane mode off)- I eventually, having called t-mobile who where almost as helpfull as a bag of jelly had to factory reset which did seem to sort it out.The reason I am writting now is because after reading the threads about how often people turn their phones off, I did just this. Low and behold the ruddy airplance mode was on when phone turned back on and same again, couldnt turn it off. I turned the phone on and off for about 10 times and eventually it seemed to work although I couldnt tell you why in that particular instance. Now this isnt a major issue as I do actually keep the phone turned on for the most, but I am obviously tyring to foresee possible future problems..ie battery running out, having to reboot because or a dodgy app etc Id like to know if anyone has any ideas of why this happens and anything I can do to avoid this in future. I did read an old thread on here about airplane mode sticking because of sim card age but not sure why this would make a difference, it was fine with 2.1 and only started happening after the froyo update.

Just switched from iPhone to new HTC Desire, which I love! Only one problem though! When I put my phone into airplane mode, but with wifi on, Spotify goes offline. When I take phone out of airplane mode Spotify still doesn't come back on. I want to be able to use Spotify at night, but with phone in this mode. I used to be able to do this in iPhone, am I doing something wrong? Would it have something to do with SD card?

Just installed this last night. worked well. Actually woke me up 10 min earlier than alarm time. Guess it works. what sold me on it, besides free, is that it has a airplane mode. I dont know about others, but when i sleep, i sleep. i dont wake up at a drop of a hat when (and if) i hear the phone go off. (plus it saves on battery)

I've just got my HTC Desire and love it, but I've encountered a small problem - I can't seem to get my phone out of Airplane Mode. I did install Locale, I then noticed that the phone always goes into Airplane Mode, so I uninstalled locale but the problem persists - I've seen loads of other threads about this with other handsets, but got no real ideas of how to solve it?

I have music via the cloud on my Galaxy Note 3. On my old laptop, I had to download the songs to my hard drive/USB to listen to music when in airplane mode. I tried to move some music to my micro SD card today but cant seem to find the appropriate part of the settings.

Wildfire running 2.1 (update 1), build 1.25.405.1 CL227575.Every time I toggle Airplane Mode on, when I toggle off again I lose access to sd card and get no network reconnection. The only way I can reconnect is to turn phone off and on again. Network is set to automatic (O2) and Network Mode set to GSM/WCDMA Auto.Anyone else getting same problem, or found an easy solution?

Just thought I'd tell you all about the experience I've uncovered with Lockbot and airplane mode as well as the workaround for it. Although I didn't really notice any huge problems with battery life, I decided to check out the 50% without signal bug. Sure enough I have it. So I switched into airplane mode briefly to clear the problem, which it did (0% without signal currently). The problem is that this knocked Lockbot offline and me back to the standard lock screen (including the one with the airplane when in airplane mode). I entered Lockbot and messed around a little, then exited. Normally this would enable Lockbot but no dice this time around.A reboot of course solved the Lockbot problem, but then I had the 50% bug again, which was of course fixed using airplane mode, which then naturally stopped Lockbot. What I found that worked was to use airplane mode to stop the 50% bug, enter Lockbot and uncheck enable Lockbot (disabling it even though it was already disabled), exit Lockbot, return to Lockbot and check the box again to enable it. Problem 'solved'.
