Samsung Galaxy S :: Syncing SGS With My Gmail Contacts In Web ?
Sep 28, 2010
I thought my SGs would sync to my Gmail contacts over the air without doing data transferring over PC with a cable. But this does not happen, as I refresh the sync manually, it says it has synced but obviously the contacts list in my phone and Gmail at the web are totally irrelevant. For example I merged some contacts in Gmail contacts but this does not show up in the phone even though it shows to be syncing over the air. Maybe a simple issue to handle but I would appreciate the help very much as a new transfer to Android from Symbian...

I see my phone contacts have synched with my gmail contacts, which is good. Except that only the email addresses are visible. Not the phone numbers. I have checked on the Accounts and Sync settings for the gmail - and it is set to transfer all (all boxes are ticked).

well , finally made the switch and got an android phone , very happy with my galaxy s, apart from 1 major issue i can't get my phonebook/contacts to sync with my in car bluetooth system. I can make and receive calls faultlessly , but definately have to be able to access my contacts hands free. every time i try to re-pair it it offers an option to share contacts, but does not work once paired .Can anyone more technically savvy than myself offer any ideas / help , unless i can get this to work the phone will have to go back

I've got a Galaxy S and am really pleased with the phone generally except the contact management is really frustrating. In particular I can't seem to sync my Google contacts groups. The contacts themselves sync ok but they are all grouped under Google in the groups dialogue. There doesn't seem to be any way for me to add them to groups I create on the device or to get the groups that are in my Google contacts to display. Annoyingly if I try to create a group on the device with the same name as a group in my Google contacts it tells me that a group of that name already exists even though it won't display that group on the phone.

How do I stop My Samsung Galaxy S from syncing my Google "contacts"? These aren't really even contacts, just a random collection of fools I've received emails from or sent to at one point.

I had a Motorolla SLVR L7, now I've got my Galaxy S Captivate.I was able to get my contacts from the L7 onto the sim, and the Captivate seems to be reading the sim contacts just fine.I then imported from my Sim card onto my Captivate's internal memory.I had assumed that this would allow me to sync up those contacts into my Gmail, so that I can do manual backups and have a keyboard/mouse to manage them.Except they aren't being loaded into my gmail.

I have noticed that my phone syncs all the contacts that i have on gmail, that is every person that i have sent a email and my contacts. I just want to have my contacts synced there, not more than that ( besides twitter/fb which syncs ok).

My phone is setup to the corporate network (activesync). So I have all my contacts & calendar in the corporate side. I thought this would also sync up to Gmail, but so far, my gmail contacts and calendar are blank. Any suggestions on how to sync my contacts to gmail?

I have two accounts, exchange and gmail. All the contacts I care about are in gmail.I also set up my exchange to sync contacts.900 of my contacts are now in the 'corporate' group in contacts on my Galaxy. This means changing those doesn't sync to google.com/contacts and vice versa
question 1: Any way to move all those contacts over to gmail group so they sync?
question 2: Any ideas how this happened?

'Sync' is switched on on my phone so I don't know why I need to manually upload my phone contacts from my SD card then attach them & email them to my google account.I just tried to attach phone contacts from SD card to a Gmail to send to my gmail account then log into my PC & import that file into my gmail account from there, but it will only let me attach photos So I tried emailing as an attachment from phone using my yahoo account. That does allow me to attach contacts but it sits there without actually attaching them !I just found I need to tick all contacts to get to attach. So I have to check 200 ticks as there's no check all option !So one by one I tick all & gets sent as 200 attachments in an email. So then download to PC hard drive. Then in Gmail import contacts I have to browse for vCard files. However I can't select all so have to manually browse for each vCard file then import one at a time. There's no option in contacts to select a contact then 'Star in android'.I presume if somethings starred in Android then the sync between phone contacts & gmail should work properly. Even then if you add new contact to phone there's no option in the phone to star it. Code...

I'm using Galaxy S2, running ICS 4.0.3
I have lots of funny contact names because of the SKYPE nicknames. Also, some contacts are made from email handlers.
So to organize them nicely, I spent last few hours on my Gmail / Contact account, renaming, adding photos, merging etc... Except, that when I want to SYNC it. Not all of the contacts update, and some remain as they were.
I would trash them all and import new set from Gmail, but I'm worry that when I do that, it might trash my gmail contact as well
Also, is there any way to change the contact font size? I have many long names, and lots of contacts. The screen cuts most of the names off and many of the contacts share same name. I have to open the contact, to find out details in order to know who I'm looking for.

This will allow you to access your Gmail contacts from a tablet just like you're use to on your PC.
Login to your gmail account using your tablet's browser. Open up a new tab and type in the [URL] ....
I have no idea why this is not integrated into Android's version of Gmail or why it is not a selectable option like Calendar, or why there isn't support on this when you do a search, so that's why I'm posting this.
I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and I've done this on the Ipad as well.

First night I got my evo, my first android phone, I was just going over the settings, seeing what control I had in the OS etc. I went into running applications and clicked on gmail and forced it to stop ("until you start it again" from what it said). Since then I have not been able to get push gmail to my evo. I've cleared the data and cache from manage applications to both gmail storage (or something) and gmail. How to get true push email again!
2nd question: I transferred my IPhone contacts into a .csv that I uploaded on my gmail contacts. I synced them from my gmail to my evo. But everytime I go into phone, it only shows me 3-4 contacts compared to the 300+ I synced from my gmail. How can I transfer them from my gmail account, onto my phone?

I have set everything up to sync with my gmail account.
However, all my contacts are stored as phone so i know i either need to change them all to Google or export them and import into Gmail (a pain but there you go).
I have no contacts in gmail so i added one and it synced perfectly to my phone.
However, as a test, i added a new google contact to my phone and synced. It didn't show up in Gmail and I believe this can take some time, and this would be fine but it has disappeared from my phone!
It seems as if the sync has wiped out the contact from my phone because it doesn't appear on my gmail account. THis means it only syncs one way which is useless for me as the whole reason for me doing this is to get a backup of my contacts in case of emergencies!

New EVO/Android user here, but I'm pretty tech savvy. I recognize that the HTC EVO doesn't have the "Sync Groups" option on some other HTC Sense phones, where you can sync specific contact groups from Gmail. So from my research in this issue, it is the "My Contacts" group that gets synced over to phones, yes?Provided this is all correct, here's my issue:When I set up my phone it originally synced all 100+ contacts in my "My Contacts" group.Once I did the research & understood how this worked, I went back into Gmail and audited my contacts. Now I only have about 20 users in the My Contacts group the users I want to show up on my phone. However, now that I'm running a Sync on my EVO, the 100+ contacts are not reducing down to the 20 that I selected for the "My Contacts" group. In short, it doesn't appear to be genuinely syncing the group changes that I made on the Gmail web client.
Can anyone advise me what I need to do? Shouldn't the syncing be two-way, as in any changes I make to my contacts on Gmail be showing up on the phone?Little stuck here... hoping it's an easy fix. I do not want to have to run a contact remover application if possible, because that's indicative that there's not a genuine sync something I really hope should be taking place!

Right this might be a completely fucktard question but i'm going to ask it anyway coz i don't want to lose information that will take me ages to gather again. When i was first putting contacts into my phone a month ago (how time flies) i kept losing the information i had put in because my gmail account was empty and when it was syncing with the phone it wiped what i had added to the phone.I disabled the contact syncing and carried on filling my people section up on my phone. Now, how do i get the contacts on my phone into my gmail account on the pc?I don't want to just enable syncing again incase it wipes all the contacts i've put into the phone!

I am not sure if this is suppose to happen or not, but when I was in the store purchasing my phone I was told that my phone contacts would sync with gmail contacts. So far this has not happened. I have over a hundred contacts on my phone and when I go to gmail on my pc it does not have any of my contacts. Am I doing something wrong, or was I misinformed?

I synched with my Gmail account but it has synched "All Contacts" instead of "My Contacts" "All Contacts" includes, in addition to the contacts in "My Contacts" a bunch of emails from people that I may get email from and have emailed frequently but don't want stored in my phone. Is there anyway to synch only to a "My Contacts" or any group?

There have been a lot of threads on this issue but I have 2 additional queries which I have not seen noted before. Firstly, why when I have set up my Gmail contacts on my computer into 8 groups do only 4 groups appear on my phone after synching? Secondly, is there anyway that the Google contacts can be rearranged so that the surname comes first - this can be done for phone contacts but does not appear possible for Google contacts?

After I installed and evaluated the Companionlink software for syncing Outlook contacts, calendar, tasks and notes to my Droid, I noticed the gmail contacts were no longer syncing via the gmail sync. However, the gmail calendar and mail were not affected. I uninstalled all of the Companionlink stuff but the contacts still do not sync. Anyone know how I can get the contacts to sync via gmail again? Short of "reset user data on phone"?

I have come to the droid from treo/winmo/bb. On each of those platforms, they had a program that would sync contacts, calendar, todo, and memo from outlook. You plugged your phone in via usb, it would be detected, and voila, you would sync.I knew when I purchased the droid this couldn't be done natively. I have been able to get my calendar to sync with the google calendar sync app that so far runs fairly well. It syncs my outlook calendar to my gmail calendar. However, I want to sync my outlook contacts. Note, I did not say I want to IMPORT/EXPORT. I do know how to do that, and that is not syncing.
I want changes I make on my contacts on my phone to show up in outlook and viceversa. BTW, I am running pop, not exchange. It doesn't have to be direct connect, it can be through the cloud. The only thing I have found so far is soocial.com . I don't know how this works, and I am looking to see if anyone has found an acceptable solution to this issue so far. 'The missing sync' is supposed to release something at the end of the month to address this, but their solution is $40 and I don't know how well it will work as a 1st release.

I am a long time Palm user. I have a Centro and recently, just testing, moved all my contacts to Gmail and "some" of like 10 years of Calendar data (but not nearly all of it) - an no Memeo's or Tasks. Well, my Droid should be here in a few days and I wonder.. should I kill off and delete my test Calendar data and my contacts from my Gmail account? I plan to use that CompanionLink to do a 1 time sync of my Palm data and want to mitigate any issues and just have a nice clean port over. Best to remove what I have done OR leave what I have done since CompanionLink and Google will sort it out (redundant entries).
