Samsung Fascinate :: MMS Not Working On Wifi After Root?
Nov 6, 2010
I rooted my phone and I am now having problems with mms pictures messages when I am on wifi. When I hit send, I see the 3g icon pop up but it never turns colors like data is actually being transfered then it goes away. When I look at the message details, it says status pending and it never sends. If I turn off wifi, it sends fine.

I am trying to install the 1click root but it is not working. It shows my phone connected but then restarts the phone to make sure the push will work. When my phone restarts it tries to push everything during the restart and of course it does not show my phone connected anymore.

Update: I realized later that "EASY" might be a bit of a stretch. This guide is easy for anyone already experienced with adb (ie. rooted other android phones). I will update this thread as the methods get easier and easier. I have also attached a screenshot of my command prompt as I entered all of the commands so you can see the appropriate commands and follow the guide through.I followed the guide here: http://rootzwiki.com - How to Root the Samsung Fascinate and it worked flawlessly. I just posted this over at XDA as well.Took me less than 5 minutes.Download the SDK here if you don't have it already: Android SDK | Android Developers.

Here is a list of confirmed working root apps...
1. Wireless Tether - Use the Incredible version (Downloads - android-wifi-tether) I have confirmed this working as well as a friend of mine.
2. Root Explorer - The ultimate file manager for root users. Access the whole of android's file system (including the elusive data folder!).
3. Shootme - Allows you to take screenshots of your device. Just fire up ShootMe and give a good sustained shake or shout to take a screenshot. If present, the light sensor can be used as well.
4. Titanium Backup - Extremely powerful backup tool for rooted Android phones ! * Backup/restore regular apps + their settings * Backup/restore protected apps + their settings * Backup/restore system settings (incl. Wi-Fi AP list) * Restores the Market links when restoring apps * Zero-click background batch backup * Many batch scenarios (eg: if more than N days since last backup, etc) * Zero-click app un-installer * Zero-click system app un-installer
5. One Click Lag Fix (working with superuser permissions)
6. adbWireless - Enable ADB wireless connection to connect to the phone as if connected by USB
7. Adfree - Removes most ads in the browser and other apps. It does this by nullifying requests to known hostnames serving ads.
8. Autokiller - an award winning minfree tweaker, it fine tunes android's inner memory manager to keep your device fast and lowers battery consumption. Users are reporting that the "Optimum" preset is stable and helps with performance/battery life.

First off, I want to say thanks to Kam187 & the Creators of asroot Okay, Below is the Method I used for getting Root working for my app's.even though Shell is running as Root, any Call's made to su trigger's the white List Superuser.apk, So don't think your phone is wide open. G1's & MT3G Setup's are the same regard sh.I'm not sure is the apk is counted as warez or not, if so I hope a Mod will remove the link to the Apk or let me know to Remove it Okay, File's Need to complete the Task is.Try3 Placed in C:SDK ols> found here > try3 SU for /system/bin found here > su Superuser app control for our App's found Here > Superuser.apk Next, Mount the SDCARD and place the SU file in the root of the sdcard like so ( /sdcard ). This is Important! From here we do the Following. ( Kam187 script the I edited ).

Does anybody know if you root will you still get the 2.2 update when it's released? I did root originally but decided to unroot because without 2.2 I can't do what I want anyway and I don't want to miss 2.2. Now if there were some cool custom ROM's it might be different......

I know, there are lots who are against one click roots. that said, I'm not fully sure I know why, and before I use ANY root method- I must be the slowest person on earth, I have been thinking about and considering and backing off from rooting for what seems like ages- I want to know everything I can about it. so, does the program work for the fascinate? is there a good reason NOT to try it? also- how hard is it (with any root method) to take the phone back to stock? yes, I know there is info on how to do this- I am not looking for detailed instructions- more like, opinions. how easy is it, did someone get hung up on any particular part of these processes, etc. honestly, I have the root files on my computer already for normal root- but keep chickening out. on the one hand, I hate the thought of voiding warranty on purpose- on the other hand, in all the years I have had phones and computers and other electronics, I have only ONCE had to use warranty, and then they said it was void anyway because they did not believe that the problem was due to a manufacturing problem(which it was) and I STILL had to pay for the repair. that all said, I get closer each day to rooting but I continue researching the subject (including the after rooting what to do stuff)

I was just curious if you did a factory reset would you lose root? And what would happen if you froze bloat with TiBU once you did the reset. Im not planning on doing this but I was just curious what would happen.

So in accordance with a deodexed ROM, is it possible to simply use Root Explorer to delete all of the .odex files under /system/app and lighten up our current ROM or is there something else that goes into deodexing?

So I was curious on the In's and out's of removing root and I came across this video on the youtubes. It seems simple and straight forward. So if anyone was curious on how to remove root this seems super easy. If any of you gurus (looking at you saps and nitsuj17) can confirm this is a good way to do this that would be awesome.

It seems that rooting the Fascinate and fixing the Google Search issue on the soft key and removing some bloatware is pretty easy, and I'm actually contemplating it once I get a Fascinate. Here are my questions: If I root the phone, I would not get OTA updates, when 2.2 came out? I would have to remove the root in order to get that OTA update to 2.2? To remove the root, I would enter the following into a command prompt on the phone or on my PC?
How To Remove Root
adb shell
su (its going to ask you for permission on your phone so hit allow)
rm /system/app/Superuser.apk
rm /system/xbin/busybox
rm /system/xbin/su
exit
Once I removed the root, the OTA update would just come up? Is there a difference between unrooting and returning my phone to stock? How to go back To stock - Android Forums.

My wife's phone needs to be returned because of continuous dropped calls. I did root her phone, but that's about. Will doing a factory reset be fine or do I have to un-root before returning? Also, does anyone know if doing a factory reset would improve the reception? Seems VZW hasn't been able to resolve the issue.

I have a rooted Fascinate. After a second re-root my SF has been very buggy. My first root was successful. I messed something up trying to install voodoo and had to flash back to stock. Now, after a second buggy root I am faced with many freezes and FC's. (primarily in com.android.settings, but will float to various apps). Battery pulls don't seem to help. After a certain amount of using my phone, hopping WiFi, maps, email, just normal use, something will need to FC.
Within the next few days I plan on un-lagfixing my phone & un-rooting it. Ultimately I'd like to take it back stock and not root. This leads to my question: what is the best way to flash stock. I don't want anything left. I can tell there was something left from my first root because ads still do not show up. I had an ad block program installed on my first root.

I have installed a BT widget and a WiFi widget from the market that are each 1x1 so I could save some real estate on my homescreen in not having to use stock the power control widget that's 1x4. I do notice that on a reboot the 2 widgets appear as three dots for a few seconds before finally loading last, after all the thumbnails do on the home s screen.
My Q is, are the widgets something that are always running and using resources, albeit not a lot perhaps. How else do they compare to just using the slide down controls for BT and WiFi. They are redundant but faster than sliding and then tapping. Also these widgets change color, green for active, red for inactive, etc.

I just got a BOGO with my wife for the Facinate. I switch from a fully rooted/ROMed Incredible. On both our phones, the Market loads and searches VERY slow on WiFi and 3G. My Incrediable loads/searches almost instantly while the Fasinate takes...3, 4, 5,..., 10secs at times. Downloads are slow too.

After being a dedicated bb user, I recently switched to a droid. I'm completely satisfied, however, I have had a small issue with my lock/power button. I've only had the phone for two weeks, but my power/lock button seems to be "stuck". I can still push it, but it's not as "click able" as when I first purchased it. I wish I could explain it better. I actually went to verizon a few days ago, and they weren't much help. The tech actually sprayed some of that air in a can stuff, which temporarily made it better. However, it now seems stuck again. Has anyone had this problem? Sorry for being such a new b!

I just got back from my local VZW store. No line. I immediately downloaded Google Maps. It installed and ran fine.
Turned on Google Navigation and navigated home. GPS locked quickly, seemed accurate (within reason, maybe 25-50 feet) and gave perfect spoken turn-by turn directions. Woo hoo.
I am gonna download some things and play for a while, but my # 1 concern looks to be appeased right now.
