I want to debug applications I developed on my phone but I can't.I have an HTC One X with Android 4.1.1 and Windows 7x64. But when I run adb devices the list is always empty. Here a few things I tried.
- I have installed HTC Drivers with ot without the HTC Sync Manager
- I am sure USB debugging mode is enabled
- I just downloaded the Android SDK and checked the version it is the most current.
- I tried turning pc or phone on and off again.
- I tried killing adb process and running it over and over again.
- and here my device manager

How can I color code individual rows in a ListView exactly like it is done in the native MESSAGING app? I do NOT want to simply do alternating rows, but I want to copy the format used in the MESSAGING app, where message rows have a different background color based on the username of the message. FYI: I am currently extending SimpleAdapter and overriding getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) . In this method I am trying to calculate setting the background color based on the position as compared to a list of 'positions to highlight' that I am maintaining each time I update the list, but so far this is only working the first time the list is updated. In class that overrides SimpleAdapter:

I defined a white color in mycolors.xml under res/values as below:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<resources>
<color name="my_white">#ffffffff</color>
</resources>
In my code, I set the text color of a TextView as the white color I defined:
TextView myText = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.my_text);
myText.setTextColor(R.color.my_white);
But the text in the TextView turned out to be a black color. When I use @color/my_white in layout xml files, it works fine. I check the generate R.java, and see: public static final int my_white=0x7f070025;

I don't know where to put the bug report of APIs.
I use WebView to display some pages in my dictionary software. I met some problems with WebView.
1) could not handle the color values When I use the HTML code: <font color="#00FF00"></font> the WebView could not handle this type of tags. But <font color="red"></font> can work well.
This bug exist both in SDK1.0 & SDK1.1
2) Chinese Char: I use UTF-8 as the charset, and if there exist some Chinese chars, then this HTML code could not be displayed in WebView: <html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"></head> <body> <p><font color="red">[-------- 美国 统词典[双解] --------]</font></p> </body> </html>
This bug exists in SDK1.1.

Now the Android Market requires developers to upload a: Hi Resolution Application Icon, 512w x 512h, 24 bit PNG or JPEG (no alpha) Problem: my application's icon is not a square, and because alpha is forbidden I will have to fill with some color like black. Or maybe white. Which color should I choose?

Is there any way to change the color or get rid of the bubble look of the stock messaging app? don't want to use Handcent or Chomp, so what are my options? (If any). Also noticed on some but not all of the text messages I get, the CB# appears on each one. Now I saw the setting in messaging that you can disable that, but I think that is for my text messaging going out to the other person correct? Is there any way to stop this from appearing in each text I receive? The weird thing is, it does not happen for all users in my contact list, just a few.

This is my target:
I need an Android application which should be able to fetch data from the web (maybe an .apk or a .jar) and launch "something" from it.
If it's a "trivial" class there's no problem at all. This is my Loader

The problem is that the code I want to execute looks very like an application, which should have a "simple" view and some interaction on it.
I'm not able to invoke the "onCreate" method of my downloaded class.
I guess I've three streets:
I look for a method which silently install the application and then runs it (is it possible?) I understand how to initialize a second "application" inside my own one (with its own R and all stuff) I write my master program to fetch data from the web and construct pages dinamically.

Are there any apps that would allow me to write a message, convert it to a QR code, then save that graphic to the phone, or even share it via email? Bar scanner is great for sharing links as QR codes, but a notepad I could type in would be cooler.

For all of you android devs out there that have the Android simulator running on your computer, you know that there are a few built in apps that are already installed on your 'phone'. I had an idea for an app that would utilize a function that is already being done in the spare parts app that comes already installed. I went on to the android developer site, dug through the source code files, and found the spare parts app, and am now trying to set it up so that running it from eclipse on my machine actually runs the app in the simulator.
In other words, I want to be able to make changes to and adjust some of the things in that app for my own needs. But it won't compile, because of a number of different errors. How do I get that source code running on my local machine? Is there some special trick that I just don't know about? I thought that if I could get the source code than the rest would be easy, but it isn't being too easy.

I'm wondering if it's possible to have an app that has a portion of its code implemented using Android 1.5 (API Level 3) and part using 1.6. (For example maybe implementing one of the app's activities in 1.6 while the overall app is in 1.5)?

I have two applications with two different application package names.
I want to use first application GUI code in the second one with out rewriting entire code.
But my first application using resource import statements in so many places.
Even i am able to compile it, i am getting runtime exceptions.
How to prevent these exceptions and make use one application GUI code in another?

I would like to know how to execute code before exiting application. My application is composed of several activities. When the user starts the application (from the launcher menu or from a notification in the status bar), he goes in an InitActivity where I process some initializations. From user experience, application always restarts. One of these initializations is to init a network manager and start a thread that periodically sends a network request to notify a server that application is active.
I need to process some end operations, like stopping this thread when user quits application, for example by pressing the HOME key or BACK key when he's in the root activity. However, when the user press the HOME key, application is still running in background.
Q1 : is it possible to execute code when exiting application (I see the onTerminate() method of the class Application but it seems not to be always called)?
Q2 : Is it possible to force application exit (activity method finish () only destroy the current activity, not the application)?
Q3 : Is it possible to handle HOME key press (onKeyDown() is not called when this button is pushed)?

I have an Android app and some company is interested in using part of it and rebranding it for its customers. One of the options would involve licensing the code to them for use in this specific case. Would you recommend doing that as a good option? What is the cost of licensing code in comparison to the cost of the original development. Should the license be for any use of the code, for using the codebase/year?

We want to migrate a huge complex native program to Android system ,running it as a background service accepting command sent from Java Program using JNI along with IPC. However, the Android NDK state following words:
Please note that the NDK does not enable you to develop native-only applications. Android's primary runtime remains the Dalvik virtual machine.
Does that mean we have no way to run an standalone native-only application on Android as a background service? The native code can only exist in the form of library that will be loaded to the virtual machine through JNI?

rowView.setBackgroundColor(SOME COLOR);
also with backgrounddrwable.

The code seems no problem when I run it, but it stop unexpectedly in the emulator. I read some answer in the forum, It has to look at the logcat to see about the exception handler. I am putting top-notch security on my phone. I have mobile defense where i can see where my phone is and do a bunch of stuff with that app. But everything can go wrong if they turn my phone off. So is there an app where I can add a passcode or some password for when I shutoff my phone.
