Motorola Droid X : Evo Vs DX Users / Quality - Internal Memory Features

Jul 17, 2010

For those who returned their Evo for the DX, how are you liking the DX?

I returned my Evo due to build quality and got the DX today. I'm going back and forth on whether to keep the DX or going back to the Evo or perhaps going for one of the Galaxy variants.

Here's my personal take on Evo vs Droid.

Pros for Droid.

1. Build quality. The DX just feels more solid than the Evo. Only concern I have about the DX is that the physical buttons feel a little flimsy...got me wondering if they are going to hold up over time with repeated use.

2. Internal memory. Out of the box with no apps installed, the Evo showed internal memory of around 350mb; the DX is showing around 6.8gb! Not sure what I would use all this for but nice not worrying about clearing out cache to free up memory.

3. Smoother scrolling, particularly noticeable in the app drawer.

4. Camcorder shoots much better video than Evo and audio quality is night and day between the two.

5. No 30fps cap. I don't know how significant this is since I dont play games on my phone but probably has something to do with the smoother scrolling.

Pros for Evo.

1. Sense UI/eye candy. The droid x's UI seems like a hodgepodge of the stock UI and motoblur. Sense just seems more like a "finished" product. I know there's ADW or Launcher pro but I don't think they measure up to Sense IMHO.

2. Camera. The Evo camera seems much faster than the DX. The shutter lag was almost non-existent on the EVO. I am getting a slight lag on the DX. The lag isn't significant for most shots but trying to snap pics of my 5 yr old son requires a little more planning . Wish the DX had a shutter button on screen (I think the stock android has an on screen button. Don't know why it was taken out on the DX)

3. Browser. Reformatting of pages on zoom is a two step/two hand process on the DX (pinch/tap) whereas on the Evo it was just tap OR pinch. Also, copying text in the browser was really well done in the Evo (hard press/highlight)...still haven't figured it out on the DX but once again, I think it's a two hand process.

4. Keyboard. The htc keyboard has hard press for alternate input (eg. symbols/numbers) in addition to changing to numeric input. From what I've seen, the droid keyboard doesn't seem to have this. (btw, if anyone likes the HTC keyboard, I think there's an apk for it on xda developers called htc_ime mod. I have it installed on my G1 and it works quite well).

One other thing I noticed is that the DX seems to get warmer during fairly normal use. I wouldn't say it gets "hot" but it's definitely noticeable and something I didn't feel on the EVO.

And then there's still the issue of build quality on the Evo which doesn't seem to have been fully resolved based on what I've been reading. So anyway, I guess there's no one "perfect" phone...give up something to gain another. Still debating which features are most important to me.

Motorola Droid :: Memory Usage - Internal Vs Card

Apr 12, 2010

As I did some research I found out, and correct me if I am wrong, that most of the applications that we download on the Droid go against the internal memory, and that the applications are not being loaded onto the memory card. I move to the Droid from Blackberry for this sole reason, thinking the Droid had it the opposite way, that the applications were being loaded on the memory card, and not the internal memory. This concept of loading the programs onto the internal memory, was putting a hurt on my Blackberry, where I had to give up programs in order for it to run faster. I am now concerned after finding out that the Droid has the same concept, that this will eventually happen with my Droid, and that I may have to give up programs for it to run fater as well. If this is true to what I am saying, that the applications are on the internal memory and eating away on it, then I am hoping someone would develop a program where as we can take our progams and move them over to the memory card so that it will free up the internal memory, other wise I am off to seek aphone that runs windows, I do belive they do have this concept that I want. I should have done my homework!

Motorola Droid X :: Way To Store Files On Internal Memory

Sep 7, 2010

This has been bugging me but I think it's just the way it is. In the DX we have 8gb of internal memory with an additional external 16gb (as shipped) on the SD card. I can store my music, pictures, etc. on the SD card but cannot access the internal 8gb. Besides storing apps, what good is that internal memory? Is there a way to store files on it. I read in the Applications and Games forums that other phone owners complain that some apps are too big to keep on their internal memory, but it seems to me that with the DX, this is no issue because we can't use that memory anyway. Why would a DX owner care about storing apps in the SD card (with 2.2) when we have tons of unused memory internally? Is there a way to store files on the internal memory which I'm missing?

Motorola Droid X :: Applications In Internal Memory And Android Folders

Oct 17, 2010

Couple of questions regarding internal memory and the Android folders. I have over 125 apps on my phone, but I have hardly put a dent in my internal memory space. So my questions are:
1) Why is it helpful to move apps to SD if they take up such little space?
2) If I want to put *data* in internal memory (possible?), or in an Android local folder *not* on the SD card, where is the best place to put it?

Motorola Droid :: Applications Live In 256MB Internal Memory Only

Nov 16, 2009

It was too bad to hear about the fact that the Applications live and function within the Droid's 256MB of internal memory instead of utilizing all of the micro-SD space that the phone can have. This really hurts the Droid's ability to compete with the iPhone on things like handheld gaming since programs have to stay very small in order to not take up all your phone's space.

Games can get quite large. I had an old Palm V back in the day, and I do recall being able to eventually run applications off of the SD card. This was nice. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think there will be apps that allow Droid to run apps off of the SD card?

Motorola Droid :: Moving Apps From Internal Memory To SD Card

Jan 25, 2010

Firts off, I would like to say hi to everyone, since this is my first post. Also, sorry if this topic has been discussed already, but I did a search and was unable to find what I needed. Alright, lets get to the question. I have a Moto Droid and just recently I received a notification about running out of internal memory space. Is there a way to move the apps from my internal memory to my SD card without rooting the phone? If this is not possible is there any way to free up more internal memory space?

Jelly Bean :: Motorola XT919 - Phone Doesn't Recognize Some Free Space On Internal Memory

Sep 26, 2013

I have free space on the internal memory of my phone that is not recognized for things like installing an app.

This is my phone:

Model: Motorola XT919
Android version: jelly bean 4.1.2
Internal memory: 4gb (really 2,2 gb free since the rest is used by the OS)
Rooted: Yes

I found out about this problem because I was running out of internal space so I inmediately checked the storage settings and I found this:

In the installed apps settings it shows 766 mb free of internal space But in the storage settings the things are different: As you can see, this time I only have 127 mb free of internal storage....

Just to be sure, I downloaded the app Storage Analyser and once again checked the internal storage free space: And this time shows 1,52 gb free...

Well the thing is that my phone considers as free space just the 127mb shown on storage settings, and I want the phone also uses the free space shown on the app settings or the one shown by storage analyser.

Motorola Droid 2 :: Phone Features / Functions Not Responding Correctly?

Sep 28, 2010

I got my droid2 as a replacement for my droid from verizon after the droid crapped out with 2.2. Now, when I turn on the flash, it's yellow instead of white. Also, when I go into contacts and click on someone, most of the time the number doesn't show. Also sometimes when press the call button next to someones name in the phonebook, it will call someone else. Ex: tried to call my friend Dave and it called Scott.. Not even close to each other in the list...

The camera only works half of the time. When I try open up camera by either pressing the app icon or the hard button, it wont open. There are also times that when I open an app, another app will open. Like I tried to open maps and Dominoes game opens. Other times I tried to answer a call and I try to swipe over and it doesn't slide.

Motorola Droid :: ROM - Supports All Features Of NON Rooted Phone Properly

Feb 24, 2010

1) What, if any, is the BEST ROM based on these criteria

a) STABLE

b) supports all features of a NON rooted Droid phone properly - can be v2.0.1 for all I care, I would just re-run this same list at a later date for a custom ROM running the official 2.1 or later equivalent I suppose.

c) while accomplishing all other criteria listed, still allows for overclocking by the USER - i don't mind using another app to do this - allows tethering and other applications which would typically require ROOT access

d) Accomplishes or at least allows for VOLTAGE and/or PROFILE adjustments to help fine tune battery life while balancing performance - again, doesn't really matter to me if I end up having to pay for an app to addon to accomplish this................

Motorola Droid :: K9 Mail Client - POP3 Email With More Features?

Nov 18, 2009

I was under whelmed with the email client which handles POP3 (hotmail, yahoo, verizon, etc.) accounts, and was looking for an "Outlook Mobile" type client, coming from my Moto Q. The stock client just seems to limited, aside from having some issues. Looking around, I came across the K9 Mail client and found that it was available in the Android Market. Its only been installed for a few minutes but in checking the settings/features, its much more robust than the stock client. Many more check intervals, options to set default number of messages, delete from server on delete option. The only caveat on install stated that it may have issues with Hotmail (i.e. Plus or paid accounts may have connection issues) but my basic free Hotmail came thru fine.

Text is much easier to read with the white background, black text and 2 line info display. You can also manage identities, and has more features I don't understand, and probably wont use. With my check interval at 3 hours, I sent a test message from my comcast account (not involved with DROID) just now and got some certificate error message from the program (has its own mail folder for errors), when I performed a manual check/sync. I just ran it again and the message came through. I think it may have been SMTP setting issues, but they seem resolved. Based on the the interface and options alone, I think I'll work with this app.

HTC Incredible :: Engadget Article - Droid Incredible Saves Browser Screenshots To Internal Memory

May 19, 2010

This folder includes screen shots that are used for Internet Browser bookmarks. It also includes screen shots of web pages that I did not choose to bookmark. When I clear cache while in "Internet" in "Manage Applications" it does not remove these jpg files that are not being used for bookmarks. When I clear everything while in Internet app (in settings) it does not remove these jpg files either. It also does not remove them from within the HistoryEraser app. The only way I can remove the jpg files is with Astro or when connected to PC. I have to go through them and erase jpgs that I do not want there.

There were 72 jpg files in that directory and they go all the way back to when I got phone (on 4/29). I have only added 5 bookmarks myself during that time. They do not take up a lot of space but I just don't want them there.
