Motorola Droid :: Swipe To Dismiss Soft Keyboard - Since Froyo

Aug 23, 2010

Ever since I updated to Froyo I've had trouble dismissing the soft keyboard by swiping down - frequently getting two additional characters typed (the one where the swipe started and the one where my finger left the screen) instead of dismissing the keyboard.

I know I can hit the back button to dismiss the keyboard, but is anyone else having this problem, and is there a fix?

Android : Way To Dismiss The Soft Keyboard?

Jun 28, 2010

I have a TextView and a search button on an activity. When I press the enter key, I want to do something and then dismiss the soft keyboard programatically. I have set the TextView to be single line by using: android:singleLine="true", which moves the focus to the next component when you press the enter key 1. How do I trap the enter key? A TextWatcher? An OnKeyListener? 2. How do I dismiss the soft keyboard programatically?

HTC Droid Eris :: Dismiss Appointment Reminders With One Swipe

May 27, 2010

2.1 seems to have changed the way reminders are presented. Back on 1.5 if I had a reminder set at 30 minutes it would chirp and place an indicator in the notification curtain where I could dismiss the reminder with one swipe. Now with 2.1 I'm getting repeatedly notified every 5 minutes until the appointment starts and there is no noticeable way to make it stop. I swear I saw a setting for that somewhere but I'll be darned if if I can find it again.

Motorola Droid :: Interesting Discovery About Soft Keyboard

Nov 10, 2009

There has been a lot of discussion on Engadget about whether the soft keyboard has multi-touch. Engadget insists no, and Rob here insists yes.I think I discovered where the problem lies. Josh at Engadget was saying that you had to release one key before pressing another or they would not both register. Rob said in his review that you COULD press them at the same time and both would register. I think I found out that both are right.I did some experimenting and would love to see whether others come to the same conclusion. It seems that when the keys are far enough apart (more than a couple of keys away), then you can, indeed, press the second before the first is released and they both register.BUT, if the keys are close to each other, it will not do this. You have to release one key before pressing the other.I think this must be to avoid accidentally hitting two keys with one finger.So, whether you think this is a good feature or too much babysitting of our typing abilities, it does seem intentional.

Motorola Droid X :: Possible To Install A New Soft-keyboard Thats More Traditional?

Sep 24, 2010

Considering moving from the Droid 2 to the Droid X. I cant really make up my mind, but I dont really like the D2, but I cant really explain why. I think its the form factor itself. Portrait keyboarding isnt good with my big thumbs, the screen is narrowish.

Anyhow, played with one at the Verizon Store last night. Wish they had one without the damn teather cord on it LOL. I noted on the landscape-keyboard, the spacebar is all the way on the right. Is it possible to install a new soft-keyboard thats more traditional?

Still struggling,

Motorola Droid :: Contacts Search Doesn't Open Soft Keyboard

Aug 23, 2010

While in the Phone/Contacts app, I LOVE the search button to open the contacts search box. However, when I press the button, it doesn't automatically open the soft keyboard and I have to first press in the input box. Is there any way to make it automatically open the soft keyboard? It's not a major issue, but it's a slight nuisance. I'm running a rooted Droid with Froyo (FRG01B, manually updated).

Motorola Droid X :: Froyo 2.2 With Droid X / Black Keyboard With Bigger Keys To Swype?

Aug 22, 2010

Swype on the Droid X with 2.1 originally had a black keyboard with bigger keys to swype or type on. With Froyo, it's now showing as a white keyboard with smaller keys that looks look the Swype keyboard I had originally had on my Droid 1. Is this the "new" keyboard look for Swype on the Droid X or is there a way to bring back the old look before upgrading to Froyo on the Droid X? The version that is showing on the DX now is 1.64.40.9380.

General :: MK802 Mini PC - Disable Soft Keyboard Hiding With USB Keyboard Available?

Jun 22, 2012

I'm using an MK802 mini PC. I don't have a USB keyboard yet.

When I plug in a wired USB mouse, I can use that to click on the on screen soft keyboard.

But when I plug in the wireless dongle for a USB mouse, the Android soft keyboard doesn't show anymore (I guess this is because the wireless dongle supports both keyboard and mouse, and tells Android a hardware keyboard is available, so Android doesn't show the soft keyboard).

Any way to ignore this and always show the soft keyboard? Or another keyboard I can download which will always show?

Android :: How To Develop A Soft Keyboard - HTTP Connections To Synchronize Keyboard Data With A Cloud DB And Other Phones

Aug 13, 2010

I would like to play around with some ideas and develop a soft keyboard for Android to replace the default one.

Is there any general information about soft keyboard development for Android out there?

Any best practices or guidelines?

Can I do with my keyboard application pretty much anything I could do with a normal Android application?
Can I do HTTP connections to synchronize keyboard data with a cloud DB and other phones I have?
Can I open other windows/screens from a key press, e.g. to display a custom input interface different to a normal QWERTY one. If that doesn't work, can I use a pop-up dialog instead?

Motorola Droid X :: APP - ROOT - Keyboard - Keyboard Manager - Dual Keyboard - Portrait - Landscape Switch

Nov 10, 2010

I tried it and it works so far.

Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.

From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers

Verbage:

Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.

Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.

To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer

The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'

Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion

Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.

The app is still in development.

Motorola Droid :: Swipe Right Option Screen Not Working

Nov 29, 2009

As you know, when you boot up the droid, you get the option to swipe right and put the phone on "silent". However, once you set up your phone with a security pattern, the first screen to come up is the pattern screen, and then you no longer get the swipe right option screen. Is the only way then to go into sound settings and put the phone on silent the "long way"? Any way to get the silent swipe right screen to come up AFTER the pattern unlock screen?

Also, has anyone noticed that around the entire rectangle glass screen, there's a tiny groove on all 4 sides, which is starting to collect dust particles? I'm getting dust particles in these "tiny grooves" along the edges of the screen before you hit the metal. Yes, I do carry the Droid in a holster, and I'm pretty OCD about my equipment, so it isn't ME.

Android :: Dismiss Android Preferences Dialog On Keyboard

Mar 15, 2010

I would like to be able to close the editpreference dialog (as shown here http://twitpic.com/18ttdp) by pressing the 'Done' button on the keyboard. Currently, pressing 'Done' just dismisses the keyboard but leaves the dialog. In other parts of my application I use code similar to the following to intercept the 'Done' key press and execute actions in my activity:

text.setOnEditorActionListener(new TextView.OnEditorActionListener() {
@Override public boolean onEditorAction(TextView v, int actionId, KeyEvent event)
if (actionId == EditorInfo.IME_ACTION_DONE) {
//do stuff here return true;
} return false;
} } );

However, I am unsure of how to do achieve this same effect in my preference activity or layout XML.
