Motorola Droid : "P" Key Of Keyboard Does Not Register When I Press It

May 25, 2010

I have a very slight but annoying issue with my sliding keyboard. About one-fourth of the time, the "p" key does not register when I press it. It is the only key I have a problem with. I've only had the phone for a little over a month.

Do you think it's a hardware or software issue? Any ideas as to how I could get it fixed without a hard reset or replacing the phone, if possible? Worth taking to Verizon?

Motorola Milestone :: Long Press Search Doesn't Work With Hardware Keyboard Open

Jun 30, 2010

On my UK Milestone (rooted), long press on the search button only works when the hardware keyboard is shut, when the keyboard is open, long press works the same as a short press.

While looking for a fix for this, I found very little information on the net, so I'm wondering if it's a problem with only selected devices. Can anyone confirm for me if theirs works or not?

I have OpenSearch assigned to long press search, and since I always use the hardware keyboard, I need to close it, long press search, then open the keyboard. It's annoying.

I've looked at editing the qwerty.kl file in /system/user/keylayout, my idea was to try to redefine to search key on the keyboard (between left alt and @) to launch OpenSearch, but it apears that I can only redefine keys to other keys that way, not launch apps.

Android : Way To Use Hardware Keyboard To Simulate Button Press On Droid?

Apr 23, 2010

It is difficult to test a game with the mouse pointer on android buttons. I would like to control those buttons with the hardware keyboard. Actually I don't want to control the buttons itself but I want to control the behavior the buttons would also do. For example I have 4 buttons in the android application with "arrow up, down, left, right". I'd like to use the arrow buttons of my hardware keyboard to control the same. How can I do that? Actually the question is, where can I set the Listener? I tried something in my activity.

HTC Hero :: Keyboard - Slow And Keys On Right Edge Of Screen Especially Delete Don't Register At All Sometimes

Nov 30, 2009

I have a problem with my keyboard that only seems to have started since I installed the Hero firmware update (which has sped up the phone considerably).

When I first got the phone I was really impressed by the Keyboard and the speed at which I could type. But since the update it is really slow and keys on the right edge of the screen (especially delete) don't register at all sometimes.

I have calibrated the keyboard but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Motorola Droid X :: APP - ROOT - Keyboard - Keyboard Manager - Dual Keyboard - Portrait - Landscape Switch

Nov 10, 2010

I tried it and it works so far.

Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.

From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers

Verbage:

Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.

Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.

To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer

The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'

Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion

Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.

The app is still in development.

Motorola Droid :: Register Installed Apps Without Reinstalling Each?

If I proceed to install the app it informs me that it is going to overwrite the current app. Is there a way to register installed apps without reinstalling each app? I am afraid that I will not receive updates due to the phone thinking the apps are not installed.

Motorola Droid X :: PDANet - Cannot Register Application Button Disappeared

Aug 2, 2010

I love my Droid X. I downloaded PdaNet and paid for it. I received the receipt and clicked on the Pdanet tray icon and hit the register button. I wasn't smart enough to use copy and paste for the serial number and I typed it in instead. Tried three times (my typing isn't that bad) and all tries failed and the register button disappeared from the icon. I have tried to obtain help from PdaNet but no luck so far. The app is worthless to me if I can't access secure sites so I am ready to go in a different direction unless one of you can give me a suggestion for registering PdaNet.

Android :: Soft Keyboard Efficient Key Press Effect?

Oct 19, 2010

on softkeyboard, which one is better to give user a visual feedback during keypress:

1.redraw portion of button that was pressed to background canvas of main View to give pressed effect

2.each button has its own "pressed" View, and that View is set to visible (flashing) during keypress event (so no redraw needed but need more memory)

I know its trade-off between speed and memory usage, but I just want to know what you will do under this situation.

Android : How Can I Close Virtual Keyboard On Button Press?

Aug 3, 2010

I have an Activity with an EditText, a button and a ListView. The purpose is to type a search screen in the EditText, press the button and have the search results populate this list. This is all working perfectly, but the virtual keyboard is behaving strange. If I click the EditText, I get the virtual keyboard. If I click the "Done" button on the virtual keyboard, it goes away. However, if I click my search button before clicking "Done" on the virtual keyboard, the virtual keyboard stays and I can't get rid of it. Clicking the "Done" button does not close the keyboard. It changes the "Done" button from "Done" to an arrow and remains visible.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: Stop Keyboard From Entering Circles Everytime When Press Next?

Sep 7, 2010

when im typing and its suggesting a word if i click the next key it draws a small circle. if i want to move to the next word i need to either click on the suggested word; press space; or press the back key then go front again. any way to fix this? i know alot of you will say get the htc but i gave it a try and surprisingly (dont bash me) i liked the original more. i would have stuck to htc but when i tried changing key sizes (height or width) it wouldnt let me. my only problem with the keyboard is having big fingers i missclick alot, something i never had an issue with on the iphone (once again dont bash me). so in conclusion i guess what im asking is 1. can i stop the keyboard from entering circles everytime i press next. 2. how can i change key type on htc (i know its in setting but it didnt work). 3. anyone know of another keyboard that has larger/spaced out keys like the iphone?

One of the people who posted a comment in it claims that by long pressing on their volume rockers, will skip tracks. Does anyone here know if this is true? Apparently it only works with 2.1 and if this is the case, which I can't do cause I am running BB v1 but i am confused cause its in 2.1 even though I rooted under 2.0.1. Can anyone confirm this?

Android :: View On Press Onpress - Change Background Color On Press - How Do Show That The View Is Being Pressed

Jan 5, 2010

I have, for the time being, a custom view with a 9-patch image as a border.

That custom view is placed three times in a LinearLayout, so it looks like this:

+------------------------+
CustomView
+------------------------+
CustomView
+------------------------+
CustomView
+------------------------+

I have attached a click event listener to the View, so it is clickable. But then I click it, I cant see that I am clicking it - there is no change in color.

So, Im thought that I'd attach a "onPress" listener, and then change the background of the view but I couldnt find such a listener.

So, the question is - how do I create the behaviour on the View so I can see that it is being pressed? this is normally done in Android with a green background to indicate that it is now being pressed.
